Get Your Mind RITE: An Authentic Podcast Review

Get Your Mind RITE: An Authentic Podcast Review

I never listened to a podcast until I created my own. And even then, I have found it difficult to “make time” for them due to all that goes into editing, producing, publishing, engaging, and promoting my own. My downtown usually includes Call of Duty, always includes music, or simply reading a book. I’m sure it is easy for some to throw a podcast on in the background and half listen to it while multi-tasking but I can’t do that. If I am going to take the time to check out or review someone’s content, I feel it is the least of my duties to give it my full attention. I know the work that goes on behind the scenes of a podcast and that it requires dedication, time, energy, sacrifice, but most of all, grace. It is more to podcasting than just pressing record and speaking into the mic. At least, it is for me.

So knowing the work I, myself, have to put in to create quality content, it is my job to give the content I am reviewing my full attention as it deserves; as I would want for my own content. I have to be about what I talk about, right? So I pay homage to my peers in my small way-a way that my peers most likely will never know, by listening authentically. I am Actually listening to and soaking up the content, oftentimes, taking notes or stopping to record a voice memo if what I heard sparked an elevated thought process within me. And to me, that is what podcasting was made for! We never know how powerful our voice can be or the seeds that it can plant, good or bad, that has the potential to affect others and the world around us.

With that said, if you are lover of words and are a reader, then I am sure you know what “TBR” means. I curse myself when I catch all of my TBR books staring at me; judging me. Well the same applies to podcasting for me. TBR, or “To Be Read,” are books that you have on standby that you have yet to read but is on your list of books you MUST absolutely read next, for those who may not know. I now have a “PTLT,” or “Podcasts To Listen To” list, and it is getting long.

Oh my goodness! It’s true! Everybody and their momma’s momma got a damn podcast! Something my podcast community engaged on once was the question of “who should NOT have podcast or “is podcasting for anyone and everyone?” It was asked to promote engagement and to have a higher vibrational conversation about “responsible content” and community. A great question that makes you should ask yourself when you hear someone’s podcast is "why are they on the mic and is the discussion meaningful?

But I digress. Grace and mercy.

Because my brand is “Be Authentic” and “Redefining Authenticity,” it is required that my walk and my talk be in alignment online as it is offline. My frequency never falters. My energy is consistent and constant. Content that attracts me will reflect this. With that said, there is so much dope content out there with so many deep thinkers, innovators, humanitarians, and everyday people doing everyday things just like me and you with a beautiful mind, a heart for service, and a divine mission to elevate themselves and their communities. Their authenticity shines brighter than a beacon of light in the darkness, drawing me in with pure gravitational pull. Light attracts light.

Despite not being from here, I am still a “HUE-man” living the human experience for the time being. I can’t do nothing but be my most authentic self so the support I provide my fellow creators and podcasting peers demands that I come correct or not at all. Meaning that I am not about to feed my mind and/or spirit anything that is not going to elevate me or my community. I don’t do “iggnit” shit. PeriodT. I don’t push agendas that keep HUE-mans stuck like Chuck like they were in the movie, They Cloned Tyrone. Momba is checking their digital footprint and checking it twice to see what type of time they are on for real. I had to learn the hard when it comes to vetting the people that I come in contact with online, whether that be for collaboration, connection, engagement, or networking. Believe me, it pays to observe the energies you engage with and discern them accordingly, for not doing so has the potential to slow your platforms motion or worse, kill it. Not everyone is who they “POST” to be. Integrity is a must. Yet, it doesn’t take a whole day to recognize sunshine. Digital energy is real and tangible. It has the ability to transcend virtual REALity and materialize in our physical realities. And with the way my spirit moves, just like with my books, what I choose to listen to and when just happens. It’s weird. So I won’t attempt that explanation and embarrass myself. Just know that like a magnet, I am attracted on site.

Anyway, it happened again. I was not looking to listen to a podcast during my downtime yesterday. I haven’t been well physically and my activity on social media has been minimal as of late. I was minding my business casually scrolling and supporting creators I follow on Instagram when I came across a promotional reel for The Get Rite Podcast’s new episode, Grab Your Ticket, and was instantly compelled to go check out their content. Now look here...please do not ask me what it was about the reel that activated my spirit because I can’t even articulate it myself. I have never heard their content before, but I knew they were on my PTLT list so between that and my spirit, I felt comfortable jumping right in to see what their podcast was all about.

My streaming platform of choice to tune in from was Spotify and from the moment I pressed play, it was a vibe! The intro and the music was perfection. The editing was top tier. The sound was pure broadcast. I was being pre-positioned to tap into this episode and was not disappointed. Not even once while tuning in. It was literally love at first listen and was easily stamped, “Momba Approved!”

Hosted by, Rod, Tee, and DC, these three Kings’ crowns were easily visible to my inner eye. I felt like I was in The Chronicles of Narnia’s magical wardrobe, and was transported to the sacred inner circle of men with an all access pass to witness how strong melanated Kings communicate, interact, talk their shit, and express their thoughts when they are amongst themselves. I felt privileged. It was like being a part of the “Boys Club.”

As a woman with very few male role models in life, I have rarely had the opportunity to witness the conversations of men. I instantly felt a strong need to respect the space they had created and protect it, for few are available. Representation matters, especially for our brothas, whose thoughts and opinions are often overlooked. Having dedicated safe spaces to share our thoughts are of vital importance in these modern times when true community is scarce.

What I found to be even more dope was the fact that they had the ability to sprinkle in subject matters that would also appeal to women, despite the platform clearly being “alpha masculine.” I really enjoyed the infusion of higher vibrational thought processes about music, politics, life, current events, sports, marriage, and any and everything in between, and all in one singular conversation at that. Rod, Tee, and DC seasoned and then blended everything so well. Chef’s kiss no doubt. I was thoroughly impressed and felt so much joy hearing an authentic podcast with real men, sharing elevated thoughts and being completely authentic and organic while doing so. It was refreshing. I was shocked to learn that their podcast was audio only because while listening, my mind visualized the episode on television. That is what I call powerful content-content that creates imagery. The Grab Your Ticket episode has so much BlakkMan magic! These fellas were serious, funny, competitive, contemplative, honest, respectful, and flat out hilarious! The harmonization of their conversation was so fluid and had me curious about their origin story and lives. I was amazed at their ability to seamlessly segue into different topics and easily pivot during conversation with one another. It is exactly what makes a creator dope in my book-their ability to establish a personal connection with their audience through sheer personality alone. This is what podcasting was made for!

Our brothas need each other. Our sisters desperately need their covering more than ever these days. It’s a code Blue in these streets and The Get Rite Podcast appears to be answering the call with their perfect latest episode. These Kings are amazing and have created something truly special that highlights the black man in nothing but the best of light. I look forward to tapping into more of their content and seeing their growth in podcasting. All in all, Grab Your Ticket was simply dope and for the culture. I pray that they get the visibility needed to break the ceilings in podcasting because their platform is golden, necessary, and simply dope as f*!k.

Before the episode could even come to a conclusion, I was on my phone reaching out to the hosts requesting their permission to blog about my review of their podcast. That’s how strongly their content affected me. I felt inspired with a deep need to write about the experience I just had listening to them. My request came completely off the muscle of this one episode and was truly spirit led. I finished listening and was left feeling empowered and excited to have found a podcast full of love, culture, and swag; one that I could get behind and support. My spirit demanded I tell the world about my experience and I was too happy to oblige when given the green light from them. Not only does this episode deserve your ear, it also deserves a five star rating. I promise that you won’t regret it and I pray that after reading about them, you go see for thyself how magical their content is.

After sitting with my thoughts about their content, I found my faith in men restored. The world loves to highlight my Kings in such a negative and ugly light, further perpetuating stereotypes and reinforcing the caste system and social constructs that were designed specifically to suppress and snuff out any desire and will for greatness in them. They would have us believe that real Kings no longer exist and that there is only a minuscule amount of good and decent brothas left in this world. I am here today to tell you that that is a lie and to not believe the hype! There are real men out there with high caliber personalities, hearts of gold, and are of outstanding character that are making a difference in their communities and families with their gifts, talents, and voice. And if you don’t see that in your community, then you should definitely understand how vital it is to have platforms that do. Without them, all we see is the lie. The Get Rite Podcast is the truth; it is the podcast you never knew you needed until you listen to it. I implore you to follow the link below and learn for thyself why they are absolutely deserving of your support, your time, and your ear.

Furthermore, If you are on the hunt for a podcast that delivers content with signature swag and is all about the culture, I ask you to give their podcast a listen. If by the end, you are not impressed by their content, I am going to need to know why. I told you that it doesn’t take a whole day to recognize sunshine and to have it so clearly on display by these kings, it would confound my mind to no end to learn that someone did not find it valuable and full of quality, so I am going to need that feedback. Call it human nature. I am always interested in what people do and why. For science of course.

But in the meantime in between time, I want you to remember that your support of higher vibrational creators is what will flush out the the over-saturation of ignorant and toxic content; the content that runs unchecked all over the virtual realm causing damage to communities and individual’s minds and spirits. Especially those of our most vulnerable-our youth. We need more content that changes the narrative about US as a people, a community, and as a collective over-saturating these spaces instead. Help me do that by lending your support to creators with content that changes the narrative and uplifts people.

Words matter. They hold immense power and have the ability to build or destroy nations. They can move mountains and spark a revolution. To have a powerful voice and use it irresponsibly to spreads hate, cause harm, or inject chaos, is blasphemous in my humble opinion. Your words absolutely matter. Your voice matters. Your platform matters. Let us drown out the noise from content that does not elevate us, our families, or our communities and flood these spaces with content of substance. Higher vibrational content absolutely matters!

I look forward to the next time my spirit leads me to a dope podcast like it did yesterday. I know that more are out there. Until then, I plan to get my mind RITE and continue listening to the podcast dammit.

Peace.
