How to Get People To Stop Scrolling Past Your Content

There are only three concepts you have to know.

Nicky Saunders is not your average content creator. She is not the type that will hit you in your DM with offers of creating unique cartoons, promises of instantly grow your account, or my most annoying inquiry DM me, let’s collaborate contact my main account. Nope, that’s not her style or strategy. And yes, there is a clear strategy with proven results.

Nicky adds ridiculous value consistently. A few months back, I was flipping through IG and came across her reel (A 30sec commercial, IG’s answer to TikTok) and immediately recognized her brilliance. It wasn’t the Jordan’s in the background, well maybe a little, because I’m a recovering Sneakerholic.

Nicky spent nine years in the Navy after being honorable discharged. She was miserable doing IT work until she met Eric Thomas (#1 motivational speaker in the world) through his online community, Breathe University, and started adding value.

You can read more about Nicky’s journey here. I’ll leave you with this, then get to the three tips you need to know to keep people from ignoring your content. Saunders would show up to every event and added value. Recognizing the importance she brought to the team, she earned full control of his social media account and took it from 300k — 1.8M followers, this makes her a credible source.

This post was adapted from Nicky’s IG Reel dated 12/30/2020, you can check it out here: to see application of the three steps in action. The IG Reel is divided into four sections: (Introduction 3.8sec, Stop them 9.3sec, Hook them 11.5sec and Direct them 4.8sec).

Introduction:

The clip begins with Nicky saying, “Let’s talk about the process of getting people to stop scrolling. Let’s talk about it.” Nicky uses the same caption in her reel, in the written description of her post and tells what she is going to talk about and invites you on the journey within the first 3.8seconds.

Stop them

In the next 9.3 seconds, Nicky explains the “why and how” to grab your audiences attention, she says “Okay, when we’re on your timeline, it has to pop out to us whether it’s a big word whether the video is super dope. It has to pop out to us. Okay, let’s go to the second part.”

Hook them

For Nikki it’s not about the sizzle, she serves you appetizers, the full course, desert and then prompts her followers to do the same. “Alright, so now you got them hooked on your content, but please don’t do a one liner give a detailed caption for my introverts right and give them a call to action was a call to action. Nikki what’s a call to action?

Direct them

Saunders strikes the perfect balance of humor and education, she could easily do voiceovers. Nicky ends the reel by saying: “Let them go to the link in your bio. Let them share like whatever you want them to do.” Saunders suggests applying this strategy in all of your post, consistency is the key.
