This book, Excellent Sheep, sharply points out the downsides of elite education. By elite education, the author means not only prestigious institutions like Harvard, Yale, and Princeton but also everything related to them. He criticizes elite students for their inability to accept failure, their lack of creative thinking, their disconnection from society, and other failings. Moreover, the book states that prestigious institutions are “soulless,” even though each one of them seems to have a character. The author of this book is William Deresiewicz. He graduated from Columbia University, where he worked for five years as a graduate instructor. He also taught English at Yale University for ten years. Before writing this book, Deresiewicz published an article titled The Disadvantages of an Elite Education, which went viral online and received mixed reactions. Later, he was invited to give speeches and hold discussions with students at schools across America. This experience also provided extensive information and real-life case studies for his book.
