While we may think that we live in a highly developed civilization, there’s still a large number of people suffering from gender-based violence, sexual trafficking, or “Honor Killings”. They are also called slaves of the 21st century, and the reason behind this is simply because they were born women. This book records stories of women's suffering in different parts of the world. It hopes to raise people’s awareness and enable more women to find hope in desperation.
The authors of this book are Pulitzer Prize winners, and a married couple: named Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl Wudunn. They are a journalist couple with extensive joint reporting experience. Through this book, they show us the brutal reality of the modern world which they compare to the African slave trade in the 18th and 19th century. The book, Half the Sky, is named as one of the New York Times’ best sellers and has been regarded as a famous humanistic work in the United States for nearly a decade.
