Every infant is "smart," full of curiosity, and loves learning. But after going to school, children often lose interest in learning and long to escape from school. Why? Perhaps this shows that the teaching methods used by our schools cause our children lose their extraordinary ability to learn. John Holt is the father of contemporary educational reform in the United States. Through his memos, he showed us how schools cause children who once loved learning to run away from it and gradually "become stupid," thus leading to their failure.
John Holt, the father of contemporary educational reform in the United States, taught in private schools for a long time. Holt’s first book, How Children Fail, was published in 1964 and initiated an education reform movement in the United States in the 1960s. In 1967, he published How Children Learn. These two books, which introduced Holt’s rich and colorful thoughts about education to the world, have been translated into 14 languages. In addition to the above books, he is also the author of many other influential books, including Escape From Childhood, Freedom and Beyond, and The Underachieving School.
