When it comes to the mind, the first thing most people think of is the “brain”. This is because scientific evidence shows us that the brain is the center of thinking and consciousness. There are also people who believe that our thoughts are controlled by the soul. This book tells us that the mind is a system of organs of computation. It is the result of “natural selection”, produced as our ancestors went through the process of overcoming the challenges to survival. In other words, the mind is not the brain, but the result of the brain's actions.

Steven Pinker, one of the world’s top linguists and cognitive psychologists, acquired his doctorate degree in experimental psychology from Harvard University in 1976. Pinker has dedicated himself to the study of language acquisition in children. He was previously the director of the Centre for Cognitive Neuroscience at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His book, The Language Instinct, appeared on the list of “100 Best Science Books of the 20th Century” by Scientific American magazine. Pinker twice appeared on the list of Foreign Policy magazine’s “Top 100 Global Thinkers”, and was named one of Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World”.
