Haruki Murakami was not a hard-working student. He got married before graduating from university, and it took him seven years to obtain his degree. He was both rebellious and did not play according to the rules. After leaving university, he first opened a store, and then switched to writing novels and became very successful. People often joke about how often he is nominated for the Nobel Prize, but never indeed wins. He has even become a popular figure on a UK bookmaker’s odds list. How did he begin his career as a novelist and what were his creative inspirations? This autobiographical essay will reveal Haruki Murakami’s creative life.
The author of this book, Haruki Murakami, is a postmodern Japanese novelist. He began writing at the age of 29 and his first novel ‘Hear the Wind Sing’ earned the Gunzo Award for Best First Novel. He published ‘Norwegian Wood’ in 1987; the Japanese edition sold more than ten million copies and was adapted into a film. ‘1Q84’, published in 2009, was said to be a milestone for Japanese literature entering the new millennium. Further, his later publications also aroused a great response. He received the Jerusalem Prize in 2009 and the Danish Hans Christian Andersen Literature Award.
