This book is the memoir of the then Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben S. Bernanke, about the financial crisis that began in 2007. In the book, Bernanke reveals how the Federal Reserve took innovative measures to curb the spread of the financial crisis, thereby saving the U.S. economy from crisis. The book fully discloses the details of the decision-making process, and also combs through Bernanke's thoughts and introspection on financial policies and financial instruments, which he drew on his in-depth knowledge and wealth of experience as a macroeconomist.

Bernanke formally joined the Federal Reserve by invitation of the White House in 2002. In 2006, he took over from Alan Greenspan as the Chairman of the Federal Reserve and served in this role for 8 years. Previously, he taught at Stanford University and Princeton University, where he was the department head of economics. Bernanke is a well-known macroeconomist. His primary research interests are monetary policy and macroeconomic history. After stepping down from the Fed Chair position, Bernanke joined the Brookings Institution to participate in economic research projects, focusing on economic recovery policy.
