The World of Yesterday is a posthumous work by Stefan Zweig. Zweig wrote the book during the last few years of his life, having been forced into exile following the rise of fascism in Europe. In it, he recounts the major historical events of his generation, the challenges to peace and humanity across Europe. In this book, Zweig tells us of the changing times as Europe slid back from peace and prosperity to turmoil and disrepair. This book is a classic work of biography that blends a personal destiny with historical events.
Stefan Zweig was a famous Austrian writer. He was also a poet and dramatist, but his best-known achievements are his novels and biographies. He was born into a wealthy Jewish family. During WWI, he became a prominent pacifist devoted to anti-war movements. When the Nazis came to power, he was forced into exile. While in exile, he wrote this autobiographical memoir, bearing witness to the end of the golden age. Disillusioned with the world, he committed suicide in 1942.
