Parent talk is more meaningful than expensive early childhood education classes. The gap of 30 million words, which refers to the difference between the number of words children from different backgrounds are exposed to when young, greatly affects children physically and psychologically. Through this book, you will see how important parent talk is. You will also learn “the Three Ts” to communicate with children scientifically: tune in, talk more, and take turns. This is a primer on language education for novice parents.

Dr. Dana Suskind is a professor of gynecology and pediatrics at the University of Chicago, and the director of the pediatric cochlear implant program. She is the founder and director of the Thirty Million Words Initiative at the University of Chicago Medical School. She received the University of Chicago Medical Faculty Award for being a “Distinguished Leader in Program Innovation,” and is one of the sponsors of the White House initiative to create a pathway to ending the achievement gap. Beth Suskind and Leslie Lewinter-Suskind are also co-authors of this book.
