SOLEMNITY OF THE ASSUMPTION August 15, 2023
“It was fitting that she, who had kept her Virginity in childbirth, should keep her own body free from all corruption even after death. It was fitting that she, who had Carried the CREATOR as a Child at her breast, should dwell in the divine tabernacles… it was fitting that God’s Mother should possess what belongs to her Son, and that she should be honored by every creature as the Mother and the Handmaid of GOD.” – St. John Damascene #militiaoftheimmaculata #solemnityoftheassumption |

Saint Maximilian was an an ardent devotee of Saint Thérèse. As a newly ordained priest, he made an agreement with St. Thérèse, who had not yet been beatified, telling her, "I will make a memento (remembrance in prayer) in every Holy Mass for your beatification and canonization, and you will take care of my mission." Friends, I am happy to share that we have a new website. The whole seminary team, led by Director of Advancement Fredrik Akerblom, has contributed to this effort. We partnered with Tatum Design and video producer Olivia Nelson to create a site that better reflects the atmosphere of the seminary.
What words describe the seminary? Silence, light, order, harmony, beauty, stillness, joy, work, laughter. These words are the consistent descriptors of those who visit as well as those who live here. These impressions became the guideposts in the creation of a website that genuinely reflects the logos, ethos and pathos of the seminary. I hope you enjoy it.
You will find this site a window into the life at St Joseph College Seminary:
Are you a young man who is thinking about a vocation to the sacred priesthood? Do you want to get a basic understanding of our mission and how our program works? Are you looking for ways to support the seminary? Do you want to get in touch with someone who works here? The website should help you get answers to all those and many more questions. But more than that, the artistry of its design will give you a true feel for what it is like to be a part of this. Take a look for yourself, click here and make sure to watch the new seminary video on the Who We Are page.
In Domino,
Fr. Matthew Kauth Rector

Catholic schools gear up for record enrollment
Demand for Catholic education continues to surge as schools across the Diocese of Charlotte – from pre-K to grad school – welcome unprecedented numbers back to campus beginning next week. Fresh off winning the prestigious “Catholic Organization of the Year” title from the national Catholic Education Foundation, the diocese’s school system expects an all-time record enrollment this year and has become a “destination diocese,” says Superintendent Dr. Greg Monroe. The system’s 20 elementary, middle and high schools are welcoming new teachers and leaders from California and Connecticut, and Maryland and Michigan, among other states. Enrollment is up 12 percent from a decade ago – and almost 18 percent since the pandemic began in 2020. While an official count isn’t taken until October, more than 8,100 students (and climbing) had enrolled as of July 31. READ MORE

Peter Ascik, who also serves as Pastor of St. Mary, Help of Christians and Christ the King Catholic Mission. Healed and Restored Transforming Young Women's Lives: One Heart at a TimeAugust Newsletter
Dear Friends of Healed and Restored, Welcome to August. By now, most of you have probably watched the movie "Sound of Freedom". The true story behind this heartbreaking movie sheds light on the horror of the atrocities being done to God’s children. Pope Francis had this to say about the modern crisis of human trafficking:“ Human trafficking is violence! The violence suffered by every woman and every girl is an open wound in the body of Christ, in the body of humanity, it is a deep wound that also affects each of us.” Healed and Restored was created with victims of human trafficking in mind. We want to show those young women that no matter what they have gone through, God desires to heal them. We are offering them tools that help them understand that our past doesn’t define us. What defines us is God's unending love for us. God the Father loves each of us so much that he sent his only son to die an awful death on the cross for crimes he didn’t commit. All of this was done to show us how much we are loved... Read More

Office of Family Life - Diocese of Charlotte With Natural Family Planning (NFP) Awareness week last week, perhaps you are wondering why the Church prohibits contraception and encourages NFP instead. It comes down to the dignity we have being made male and female in God's image and the call for a married couple to be a truthful sign of God's love in the marital act. The best preaching I've heard on the topic is from Fr. Patrick Schultz on his podcast Slaking Thirsts. Do yourself a favor and subscribe to the podcast!
