Why we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel

View this email in your browser

Why do we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel?

While Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is the patron saint of the Carmelite Order, the basis for the universal Church honoring Mary under this title dates to her appearance to an English Carmelite St. Simon Stock in the 13th century. She gave him the Brown Scapular, a garment worn by religious over the neck and shoulders as an apron, to be worn by Carmelites “as a sign of her protection.” It is a Marian devotional practice which, over the centuries, has spread to Catholics around the world.

We celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on July 16.

As a new diocesan fiscal year begins, we ask all parishes to show your support with a pledge of a monthly tithe or annual gift to help keep us on the air the rest of this year.  We want to publicly thank the following parishes for their financial support this past year and pledges for the year ahead:

St. Thomas Aquinas, Charlotte

St. Mark, Huntersville

St. Ann, Charlotte

St.Therese, Mooresville

All Saints, Lake Wylie

Holy Family, Clemmons

St. Dorothy, Lincolnton

Can we count on your parish to be next?

We are in urgent need of $12,100 to meet our immediate financial obligations through July.
Your tax-deductible gifts this month will help us keep Charlotte's 1st Catholic Radio station, AM1270 WCGC,
on the airwaves and livestreaming on the Carolina Catholic smartphone app.

We encourage you to do what you can prayerfully, financially and by spreading the word of what our apostolate has been doing the past 4+ years.  Your involvement will be the difference in keeping true local Carolina Catholic content available on-air, on-line and on-demand!  Thank you for recognizing the importance to evangelize the TRUTH of JESUS CHRIST and the Catholic Church in today's volatile, devisive upside down culture.  We are a VOICE that needs to be heard in today's media world.

"Thank you for all your work to put forth Catholic morals and values."

Belmont Abbey College seeks a Director of Residence Life.
Some years ago, when I was an auxiliary bishop in California, I was in dialogue with the board members of a Catholic high school. When I commented that the purpose of the school was, ultimately, evangelization, many of them balked and said, “If we emphasize that, we’ll alienate most of our students and their parents.” My response was, “Well, then you should close the school. Who needs one more secular STEM academy?” Needless to say, I was never invited back to address that board! But I didn’t care. When any Catholic institution, ministry, or outreach forgets its evangelical purpose, it has lost its soul.

Redefining Strength, Compassion, and Leadership: What Does Jesus Teach Us About True Masculinity?
One on One with Fr. Peter Ascik

In this episode of Carolina Catholic Showcase, Elizabeth Harris, Pro-Life Correspondent, captures the mission of the Office of Family Life in the Diocese of Charlotte through its Director Fr. Peter Ascik, who also serves as Pastor of St. Mary, Help of Christians and Christ the King Catholic Mission.

During the candid conversation, Elizabeth simultaneously elicits the essence of the heart of Fr. Peter and his honorable call from a very young age to affirm all human life from fertilization to natural death. The interview beckons us to approach the pro-life movement through a compassionate lens, drawing the listener closer to the merciful heart of Jesus through his Holy Mother, and how to get engaged in advocacy to authentically live the Gospel of Life.

THE RESCUE PROJECT

For I am not ashamed of the gospel. It is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes. - Romans 1:16

The Rescue Project is a global movement that launched in 2022. It flows from the conviction that the most urgent task in the Church is a compelling and attractive proclamation of the gospel. Its aim is threefold: that people might be 1) overwhelmed by the good news of what God has done for us, 2) moved to surrender their lives to Jesus in faith, and, 3) mobilized for mission.

The Rescue Project is a multi-week video experience of the gospel and is designed to be offered in a small group format everywhere and anywhere - in parishes, homes, schools, college campuses, seminaries, workplaces, prisons and beyond.
