World Youth Day Wrap-up!

August is the month of the
IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY

O JESUS, THROUGH THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and suffering of this day in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. I offer them for all the intentions of Your SACRED HEART: the Salvation of souls, Reparation for sins, the Reunion of all Christians;I offer them for the Intentions of our Bishops and of all Apostles of Prayer and in particular for those recommended by our Holy Father this month.
AMEN.
The Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary is celebrated every year on August 15th.  This feast commemorates the death of the Blessed Virgin Mary and her assumption, body and soul, into Heaven. It is the most important Marian feast, and it is also a Holy Day of Obligation.

What a great month of Saints!

‘Be not afraid,’ Pope Francis tells young people at end of World Youth Day

“Be not afraid,” Pope Francis told young Catholics Sunday at the closing Mass of World Youth Day 2023 in Lisbon, Portugal, echoing the well-known call of his predecessor and the founder of the international youth gathering, St. John Paul II.

Transforming Young Women's Lives: One Heart at a Time

August Newsletter

Dear Friends of Healed and Restored,

Welcome to August. By now, most of you have probably watched the movie "Sound of Freedom". The true story behind this heartbreaking movie sheds light on the horror of the atrocities being done to God’s children. Pope Francis had this to say about the modern crisis of human trafficking:“ Human trafficking is violence! The violence suffered by every woman and every girl is an open wound in the body of Christ, in the body of humanity, it is a deep wound that also affects each of us.” Healed and Restored was created with victims of human trafficking in mind.

We want to show those young women that no matter what they have gone through, God desires to heal them. We are offering them tools that help them understand that our past doesn’t define us. What defines us is God's unending love for us. God the Father loves each of us so much that he sent his only son to die an awful death on the cross for crimes he didn’t commit. All of this was done to show us how much we are loved...Read More

Convention Summons Knights of Columbus
to Discipleship, Transformation of World

By Peter Jesserer Smith

ORLANDO, Fla. (OSV News) — Nearly 2,300 members of the Knights of Columbus, spouses and family members gathered together from all parts of the globe Aug. 1-3 in Orlando under the theme “First in faith and charity.”

But the unmistakable, uplifting message of the 141st Supreme Convention from start to finish was the power of each Knight — all 2 million in the order — to transform the church and the world around them by deepening their faith as disciples of Jesus Christ and living out a charity that evangelizes.

In this episode of Carolina Catholic Showcase, Elizabeth Harris, Pro-Life Correspondent, captures the mission of the Office of Family Life in the Diocese of Charlotte through its Director Fr. Peter Ascik, who also serves as Pastor of St. Mary, Help of Christians and Christ the King Catholic Mission.

During the candid conversation, Elizabeth simultaneously elicits the essence of the heart of Fr. Peter and his honorable call from a very young age to affirm all human life from fertilization to natural death. The interview beckons us to approach the pro-life movement through a compassionate lens, drawing the listener closer to the merciful heart of Jesus through his Holy Mother, and how to get engaged in advocacy to authentically live the Gospel of Life.

TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD
August 6, 2023

“And He was transfigured before them and His face shone like the sun and his clothes became dazzling white. Appearing with Jesus were Moses and Elijah, talking with him.
“THIS IS MY SON, THE BELOVED; WITH HIM I AM WELL PLEASED, LISTEN TO HIM!””
—Matthew 17:2-5

"At His Transfiguration, Christ showed His disciples the splendor of His beauty, to which He will shape and color those who are His: 'He will reform our lowness configured to the body of His glory.'"
—Saint Thomas Aquinas

ALMIGHTY FATHER, Who in the glorious Transfiguration of Your Only Begotten Son, JESUS CHRIST, confirmed the mysteries of faith by the witness of the Fathers and wonderfully prefigured our full adoption to sonship, grant, we pray, to Your servants, that, listening to the Voice of Your beloved SON, we may merit to become co-heirs with Him. Who lives
and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. AMEN.

Office of Family Life - Diocese of Charlotte
With Natural Family Planning (NFP) Awareness week last week, perhaps you are wondering why the Church prohibits contraception and encourages NFP instead.  It comes down to the dignity we have being made male and female in God's image and the call for a married couple to be a truthful sign of God's love in the marital act.

The best preaching I've heard on the topic is from Fr. Patrick Schultz on his podcast Slaking Thirsts.  Do yourself a favor and subscribe to the podcast!

Don't give up hope, even if you're going through a hard time now. 💚This too will pass. And it passes much more quickly when we do the intentional work to heal and move toward greater peace. It's worth the effort.

THE RESCUE PROJECT

For I am not ashamed of the gospel. It is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes. - Romans 1:16

The Rescue Project is a global movement that launched in 2022. It flows from the conviction that the most urgent task in the Church is a compelling and attractive proclamation of the gospel. Its aim is threefold: that people might be 1) overwhelmed by the good news of what God has done for us, 2) moved to surrender their lives to Jesus in faith, and, 3) mobilized for mission.

The Rescue Project is a multi-week video experience of the gospel and is designed to be offered in a small group format everywhere and anywhere - in parishes, homes, schools, college campuses, seminaries, workplaces, prisons and beyond.

The One We Can Trust

August 2, 2023

Father John Riccardo

Beloved: We did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honor and glory from God the Father when that unique declaration came to him from the majestic glory, "This is my Son, my beloved, with whom I am well pleased." We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain.
