This is the first of 4 episodes that will cover people and companies trying to make the highly toxic and wasteful beauty industry safer and more sustainable.

The Beauty industry produces over 100 BILLION pieces of plastic every year. Today’s guest Justin Wolff didn’t want to be a part of that problem. Justin and his co-founder Allie set out to do one thing, create a beauty brand where nothing goes into the trash. The result of their efforts is JunkTheory. Justin and Allie believe that if we stop making junk, and prevent the things we use from becoming junk, we can inspire a movement that cleans our lives and our planet, forever. With every skincare product, JunkTheory strives to enable deeper connections to nature, and inspire a movement to eliminate toxic packaging.

You will walk away from this episode thinking more critically about both the ingredients in your personal care products and the packaging they come in.

About Justin

Justin is the CEO and Co-Founder of JunkTheory, a west coast clean skincare line that is taking a 360 approach to sustainability by responsibly sourcing its formulas and packaging them in the most recyclable material on earth - aluminum.

Prior to founding JunkTheory, Justin co-founded and was the Chief Giving Officer at Yoobi, a school supply brand that donates a school supply item for every item it sells. Over the past 7 years, Yoobi has generated over $150M in sales across most major retailers, while donating more than 80 million essential school supplies to over 6 million students in the U.S. Through his work at Yoobi, Justin has been featured in major publications like Forbes, The Good Trade, USA Today, and has been a keynote speaker and panelist at numerous industry-related conferences and summits where he shares the value in creating businesses with purpose beyond profit.

Born in South Africa, Justin was raised in Los Angeles, attended U.C. Berkeley, where he earned a B.A. in Political Economics, with a focus on China. Following his graduation, Justin moved to Israel where he served in an elite paratrooper regiment, and later worked in the media technology start-up space. In 2005, Justin returned to the U.S. to pursue his Juris Doctorate degree at Cardozo School of Law in New York City. Justin spent almost 5 years as a project finance attorney, specializing in the clean energy sector. His practice took him from New York to Hong Kong, and eventually back to Los Angeles. Justin worked on over $4B in clean energy projects worldwide (primarily utility-scale wind and solar developments). In his final year of practicing law, Justin did extensive pro-bono work in the education space, which helped inspire his decision to co-found Yoobi.
