12: Leaders, how are you treating your customers?

12: Leaders, how are you treating your customers?

Today, I bring you a show that is a bit longer than my previous shows but I had a lot of stuff I wanted to address. I didn’t have any formal notes for this episode so it was kind off the cuff. This is the real me for sure with all the rambles.

The focus of the show is to make ourselves think about how we are treating our customers. Specifically, if you are a leader, how are you treating your customers. These would be your direct reports, your boss, your peers, etc. I share a few stories of leaders that showed me how I didn’t want to lead and a few stories of leaders that continue to inspire me today.

I referenced a couple of Bible verses and quotes from The Maxwell Leadership Bible when I get into the topic of servant leadership. Let’s be honest, Jesus is the example I think of when I think about serving others as a leader.

  • Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be y our slave - just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. - Matt 20: 26-28

Commentary on this verse says, “Leadership is about adding value, not getting perks.”

  • We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. - Romans 12:6-8

Commentary on these verses says, “Every leader is a manager whose goal should be to maximize everyone’s gift.”

Yep…those are mic drop moments in my opinion.

I close out with 5 ways to lead by serving from an article published by Wilbanks Consulting.

  1. Demonstrate Through Words and Actions
  2. Trust and Respect Employees
  3. Active Listening
  4. Empower your Team
  5. Practice Humility

Hit me up on social media and join in on the conversation.

Let's get ready to connect the dots!
