00:00:01.340 --> 00:00:08.214
Hello everyone, thank you again for joining me on another episode of the Dorsey Rus Show.

00:00:08.214 --> 00:00:11.848
Today we have a special guest with us.

00:00:11.848 --> 00:00:14.153
His name is Mike Manuel.

00:00:14.153 --> 00:00:33.308
Before becoming a pastor at the age of 40, mike spent several years in the broadcast industry as an on-air video personality and a TV news anchor for local NBC affiliate.

00:00:33.308 --> 00:00:52.634
Over the last two decades as a pastor, micah's equipped thousands of people to experience more of God's power, purpose and peace through effective deliverance ministry and understandable biblical teaching.

00:00:52.634 --> 00:00:54.886
Mike has written two books.

00:00:54.886 --> 00:01:13.591
One is named Torn, emplacing the New Covenant in an Old Covenant World, and there's Noah's book, breaking Up with the Enemy how to Defeat the Devil's Deceit and Reclaim Peace, hope and Joy.

00:01:13.591 --> 00:01:28.093
As my podcast guest today, mike will give us my listeners tangible biblical steps that they can take to experience more of the abundant life that Jesus promised in John 10.

00:01:28.093 --> 00:01:32.308
Mike, thank you so much for coming on the show today.

00:01:32.308 --> 00:01:33.311
Yeah, you're welcome.

00:01:33.560 --> 00:01:34.805
It's great to be with you, Dorsey.

00:01:34.805 --> 00:01:36.450
Thank you Absolutely.

00:01:37.881 --> 00:01:40.045
Now, what is your favorite?

00:01:40.045 --> 00:01:45.674
As I said earlier I know, give my guests an icebreaker question.

00:01:45.674 --> 00:01:51.412
Today's icebreaker question is what's your favorite funny story to tell?

00:01:53.701 --> 00:01:54.867
Well, that's an easy one.

00:01:54.867 --> 00:02:04.441
I grew up on a family farm and then moved later on, moved back to the farm as an adult, raised my boys and worked with.

00:02:04.441 --> 00:02:32.008
So, growing up working with my dad and my dad was a pretty colorful person and his name was Rex R-E-X and we—he was quite a character and there was some—several episodes on the farm that lent itself to some great stories, and so every time we would get together for a family gathering, later on in the years people would say tell us a Rex story.

00:02:32.008 --> 00:02:38.670
So that's my favorite stories to tell are Rex stories.

00:02:38.670 --> 00:02:45.885
Growing up with my dad on the farm, and what would be one of those stories?

00:02:48.050 --> 00:02:53.125
Well, I'll try to not make it too long, but the one that I think that started everything.

00:02:53.125 --> 00:03:09.096
I was probably about eighth grade, I think kind of a smart aleck junior high boy and our dog got ran over a great big St Bernard lab cross, and its leg got broken.

00:03:09.096 --> 00:03:16.951
And so my dad was going to take it to the vet and so he tried to put it in our pickup truck and it would just jump out.

00:03:16.951 --> 00:03:20.250
It didn't like being in the back of the pickup so it wouldn't stay in the pickup.

00:03:20.250 --> 00:03:22.087
Even with a broken leg it would jump out.

00:03:22.087 --> 00:03:37.004
And so he decided to put it in the trunk of our car and at that time we had one of those great big Olds 98, big banana boat cars and I was inside the house watching.

00:03:37.004 --> 00:03:49.908
I should have been out helping, but again, I'm a smart aleck eighth grade boy, and so I was watching out the window and he'd scoop up this dog and put it in the trunk and then put his hands up on the lid of the trunk to close it.

00:03:49.908 --> 00:03:54.566
But the dog would jump out and this repeated itself three or four times.

00:03:54.566 --> 00:03:57.682
Put the dog in the car, dog would jump out before he could get the trunk closed.

00:03:57.682 --> 00:04:00.169
So he hollered at me to come out and help him.

00:04:00.169 --> 00:04:01.072
And he was.

00:04:02.080 --> 00:04:11.971
He was kind of intense when he was doing things and I always tried to please my dad, and so he said, okay, I'm going to put this dog in and hold him down.

00:04:11.971 --> 00:04:14.021
And when I say close the trunk, you close the trunk quick.

00:04:14.021 --> 00:04:19.199
Well, he put the dog in and he said, just starting to say, close the trunk.

00:04:19.199 --> 00:04:23.807
Well, I came down with all the force of the universe with that trunk and hit him right on the top of the head.

00:04:23.807 --> 00:04:32.521
It was the most sickening thud I've ever heard in my life and I honestly thought I killed my dad.

00:04:32.521 --> 00:04:38.822
And he howled around for about 30 seconds and I thought, you know, I was asking him should I call an ambulance?

00:04:38.822 --> 00:04:40.846
And he just kind of shook it off.

00:04:40.846 --> 00:04:45.132
He said I'm fine and got in and took the dog to the vet.

00:04:45.132 --> 00:04:55.701
But you know, it's that story of the young boy trying to please his dad and you know I'm going to do things so well, but I kind of got him off guard.

00:04:55.701 --> 00:04:59.603
So anyway, that was kind of the first episode of the wreck.

00:05:02.564 --> 00:05:08.127
how did you in your bio that-air radio and then got into the TV side?

00:05:29.199 --> 00:05:30.762
That's a long story I won't tell now.

00:05:30.762 --> 00:05:44.833
And I was single at that time when I was in the TV business and then got married during that time and my wife and I wanted to have kids.

00:05:44.833 --> 00:05:49.586
And you know, doing the local news you have newscasts at 5.30 and 10.

00:05:49.586 --> 00:05:57.791
So I was gone every evening, every weeknight evening, and I could see that that wasn't going to be really family friendly.

00:05:57.791 --> 00:06:07.663
And although I mostly enjoyed that career, I could just tell that it was not going to be the best to raise a family.

00:06:07.663 --> 00:06:13.968
And at the same time we had an opportunity to move back to the family farm and kind of take that over.

00:06:13.968 --> 00:06:21.413
So we made that decision and so I did that for a while until I was called in to the ministry as a pastor.

00:06:22.862 --> 00:06:25.392
Did you grow up in the church?

00:06:25.392 --> 00:06:25.793
Were you?

00:06:25.793 --> 00:06:28.122
You know were you saved most of your life.

00:06:29.564 --> 00:06:33.593
Yes and yes, I grew up in the Lutheran church, which I'm, you know.

00:06:33.593 --> 00:06:34.274
I'm thankful.

00:06:34.274 --> 00:06:40.761
You know I learned some of the Bible stories and, of course, knew about Jesus and His death on the cross.

00:06:40.761 --> 00:06:43.505
You know, there's some things I didn't catch.

00:06:43.505 --> 00:06:48.394
This concept of salvation somehow escaped me.

00:06:49.160 --> 00:07:11.574
But I went to a Bible camp more of a non-denominational evangelical-type Bible camp when I was 10 years old and that's where I first heard this idea of salvation, old, and that's where I first heard this idea of salvation and, you know, personal salvation and putting your faith and trust in Jesus to be saved.

00:07:11.574 --> 00:07:14.182
Before that I thought, well, you just be, you know, just be good.

00:07:14.182 --> 00:07:19.141
But I'm only 10 years old too, so you know you're still trying to figure this out.

00:07:19.141 --> 00:07:24.670
But anyway, it was at that Bible camp that I accepted Jesus and was saved.

00:07:24.670 --> 00:07:36.045
But you know, then, through the teen years junior high, high school I still continued to go to church, but I wasn't well-discipled and I didn't learn a lot about the Bible.

00:07:36.045 --> 00:07:42.826
But I was saved and I did stupid high school things, you know, like a lot of people do.

00:07:42.826 --> 00:07:50.430
But I would say it was probably in my younger adult years, 1920, 21, going to college, getting into a good church.

00:07:50.430 --> 00:07:59.793
That's where I really learned more about salvation, jesus himself and the gospel message.

00:08:01.740 --> 00:08:05.732
When it comes to what you do now as a pastor.

00:08:05.732 --> 00:08:09.009
What makes you passionate about what you do?

00:08:10.019 --> 00:08:13.141
Oh, that's a great question, honestly.

00:08:13.141 --> 00:08:18.447
It's to see life change in people, to see them transformed.

00:08:18.447 --> 00:08:27.701
You know, there's so many people that just don't have peace and they don't know how to get it and they just think know how to get it and they just think it's elusive.

00:08:27.701 --> 00:08:37.625
And that crosses all boundaries financial boundaries, society boundaries, educational boundaries.

00:08:37.625 --> 00:08:43.004
There's just—people don't have a lot of peace and they're increasingly losing hope.

00:08:43.004 --> 00:09:15.628
And when they're taught the gospel message and salvation through Christ and freedom from the influence of the enemy and God's love for them and God's forgiveness for them, to just see their life transformed and even after salvation, to see them grow and become more and more like Christ, to experience more peace and more joy and more hope and just to see them come alive, that's my passion.

00:09:16.840 --> 00:09:29.394
And here's another question that I would like to discuss with you If the devil was defeated on the cross, why do we still have to deal with him?

00:09:31.660 --> 00:09:32.764
Yeah, that's a great question.

00:09:32.764 --> 00:09:34.450
It's a question I had to wrestle with.

00:09:34.450 --> 00:09:39.248
So I'm a second-career pastor, as some people refer to it.

00:09:39.248 --> 00:09:52.373
I started pastoring when I was 40, as you mentioned in the intro and the first few years pastoring I was kind of a spiritual ambulance, trying to kiss everybody's boo-boo and help everybody.

00:09:52.373 --> 00:10:11.167
But the need is so great, there's so much people are going through out there, and it became almost overwhelming, and so I began sending people to, referring them to professional counselors, which there's definitely a need for that.

00:10:11.948 --> 00:10:25.469
But what I really found out is the majority of people were struggling with spiritual issues that led to emotional issues, and so the root problem was spiritual, not clinical.

00:10:25.469 --> 00:10:30.607
You know there was some of that clinical problems, but not a lot.

00:10:30.607 --> 00:10:33.253
So I really began to.

00:10:33.253 --> 00:10:45.567
You know, god just really took me on a journey, teaching me how to set people free from the influence of the enemy and how much the enemy was influencing people and bringing baggage into their life.

00:10:46.347 --> 00:10:54.649
But one of the questions I had was a question you asked is well, why are we—Jesus defeated Satan on the cross, the Bible says that.

00:10:54.649 --> 00:10:56.753
So why are we even messing with him?

00:10:56.753 --> 00:11:13.535
And what I learned is this that Jesus did win a victory the victory on the cross, that Jesus did win a victory the victory on the cross and we're called to enforce that victory, just like when you know if nations are in battle, like World War II, for example.

00:11:13.535 --> 00:11:23.447
We won World War II, we won the victory, but then we had to enforce the borders.

00:11:23.447 --> 00:11:27.801
We kept soldiers on the borders to make sure that the enemy didn't try to cross the border again.

00:11:28.623 --> 00:11:31.589
And it's similar to that in our Christian life.

00:11:31.589 --> 00:11:38.490
Jesus won the victory for us, but we have to enforce that victory and he's given us power and authority to do it.

00:11:38.490 --> 00:11:54.716
But a lot of Christians number one don't know how to—they don't know that they have that power and authority, number one and they're missing some critical—I would say a critical step in taking power and authority over the enemy.

00:11:54.716 --> 00:12:06.371
And so there's—like Paul said, we shouldn't be ignorant of the devil's devices, of his schemes, but a lot of Christians are of his schemes, but a lot of Christians are.

00:12:06.432 --> 00:12:11.277
And the Bible also says you know, the devil comes to steal, kill and destroy as well.

00:12:11.277 --> 00:12:21.991
Right, so what I hear you saying is that we can keep the enemy from you know, from our lives.

00:12:21.991 --> 00:12:24.855
We just have to know how to deal with that.

00:12:26.179 --> 00:12:29.048
Right, exactly, and a lot of Christians, including myself.

00:12:29.048 --> 00:12:30.211
Even years as a pastor.

00:12:30.211 --> 00:12:34.110
I was not really well equipped to do that.

00:12:36.863 --> 00:12:48.833
So what would you say to the Christians, and to myself even, how would you say, what would your logic or what would your outline be to do that?

00:12:50.900 --> 00:12:54.649
Here's the key the enemy can't do whatever he wants.

00:12:54.649 --> 00:12:57.942
Again, he's been defeated, but he's still active.

00:12:57.942 --> 00:13:02.636
He still has some power, but the only power the enemy has.

00:13:02.636 --> 00:13:08.831
When I say enemy, I'm talking about the devil and his army of fallen angels, which the Bible calls demons or evil spirits.

00:13:08.831 --> 00:13:09.312
They're real.

00:13:09.312 --> 00:13:10.485
Jesus referred to them.

00:13:10.485 --> 00:13:16.212
He said you know, you have power and authority over them because they're real, right.

00:13:16.212 --> 00:13:21.948
But the only power they have is the power of our agreement.

00:13:22.971 --> 00:13:29.442
And we would think, well, I would never agree with the enemy, but we do, unknowingly, unwittingly.

00:13:29.442 --> 00:13:38.442
And so in Genesis 1, god gave us mankind power and authority on this earth.

00:13:38.442 --> 00:13:40.806
It's his earth, right.

00:13:40.806 --> 00:13:44.417
He's the sovereign king, he's the Lord of all, for sure.

00:13:44.417 --> 00:13:51.277
But in his sovereignty, for whatever reason, he's given mankind power and authority on the earth.

00:13:51.277 --> 00:13:57.721
And he said that in Genesis 1, and he reaffirmed that in the New Testament, you know more specifically in Matthew 16.

00:13:57.721 --> 00:13:59.625
He said I give you the keys of the kingdom.

00:13:59.625 --> 00:14:02.961
So we have power and authority.

00:14:02.961 --> 00:14:09.365
Of course, he created us with free will as well, so that we could love, and that's another topic.

00:14:09.365 --> 00:14:16.664
But he knew that we would use our free will to at times disagree with him.

00:14:16.664 --> 00:14:19.635
And Adam and Eve did that.

00:14:19.635 --> 00:14:29.528
They disagreed with God and agreed with Satan, and that's what empowered Satan and that's what empowers him today is our agreement.

00:14:30.596 --> 00:14:33.885
And again you would think, well, I would never agree with the enemy.

00:14:33.885 --> 00:14:40.828
But here's a simple illustration that I think we've all probably experienced.

00:14:40.828 --> 00:14:44.700
You know, the Bible says this is the day the Lord has made.

00:14:44.700 --> 00:14:46.846
I'll rejoice and be glad in it.

00:14:46.846 --> 00:15:07.131
So if we get up in the morning and say, god, I don't know what today holds, but you hold today and I trust you and I'm speaking life into today and I'm just believing that you're going to go ahead of me and that there's going to be joy and peace, and so'm just believing that you're going to go ahead of me and that there's going to be joy and peace, and so I just partner with that in Jesus' name.

00:15:07.131 --> 00:15:14.346
When you do that, the Holy Spirit is there to help that happen and there's a word for that.

00:15:14.346 --> 00:15:15.207
It's called prayer.

00:15:15.207 --> 00:15:22.586
When we speak according to God's will, god is there to help make that happen.

00:15:22.586 --> 00:15:25.177
That's biblical, that's the basis of prayer.

00:15:27.221 --> 00:15:37.365
Conversely, when we speak in disagreement with God's word, the enemy is right there, the devil's right there, to help that happen.

00:15:37.365 --> 00:15:48.201
So if we get up in the morning and say, oh, today's going to be a horrible day, today's going to stink, the boss is going to be grouchy, kids are going to be sick, the weather is going to be horrible, or you know whatever.

00:15:48.201 --> 00:15:49.125
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

00:15:49.125 --> 00:15:55.279
We don't think anything of that, but that's the type of stuff that the enemy can agree with.

00:15:55.279 --> 00:16:02.826
You know, the Bible says in Proverbs 18, 21, that death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

00:16:03.628 --> 00:16:08.692
I just used to think that meant, you know, say nice things, don't say bad things.

00:16:08.692 --> 00:16:14.476
And it does mean that.

00:16:14.476 --> 00:16:14.958
But it means much more.

00:16:14.958 --> 00:16:15.681
It means there's power in our words.

00:16:15.681 --> 00:16:16.865
That's why Jesus said watch the words you speak.

00:16:16.865 --> 00:16:17.849
There's no such thing as idle words.

00:16:17.849 --> 00:16:23.745
So when we speak in agreement with God, he's there to help that happen Again.

00:16:23.745 --> 00:16:28.690
Consequently, if we speak in agreement with the enemy, he's there to help that happen.

00:16:28.690 --> 00:16:36.505
And there are people having supernaturally cruddy days simply from the words of their mouth.

00:16:36.505 --> 00:16:47.121
And so, again, we wouldn't think that we would agree with the enemy, but we do, and one of the main ways we do that is simply from the words of our mouth.

00:16:48.344 --> 00:16:50.115
Yeah, I would never have thought about that either.

00:16:50.115 --> 00:17:03.428
But you know, you're right, we do and, like you're saying, with the words that we say and the words that we speak, we need to be careful with what we say and with what we speak.

00:17:04.474 --> 00:17:19.586
Yeah, because actually what you're doing then and this is a really important concept and I talk about it in my book Breaking Up With the Enemy is that we actually, through that, give the enemy legal consent in our life.

00:17:19.586 --> 00:17:24.516
There's this concept that I talk about in my book, that the Bible talks about.

00:17:24.516 --> 00:17:25.897
Jesus actually talked about it.

00:17:25.897 --> 00:17:36.776
One of the places in Matthew 18 is an example of that, and I can talk about that in a minute of this idea of legal consent or opening doors to the enemy.

00:17:36.776 --> 00:17:39.000
Again, the enemy can't do whatever they want.

00:17:39.000 --> 00:17:42.627
They just can't attack and do whatever they want.

00:17:42.627 --> 00:17:46.240
They're very limited, again, by our agreement.

00:17:46.240 --> 00:17:53.663
But when we do agree, we've opened a door to the enemy, we've given them legal consent.

00:17:54.145 --> 00:17:57.978
Now, that doesn't mean we get possessed, because Christians cannot be possessed.

00:17:57.978 --> 00:18:05.998
The Holy Spirit possesses us, but we can be oppressed, we can be influenced, and that's what the devil does.

00:18:05.998 --> 00:18:14.780
When we agree with him, he gains access really to just speak into our life and tries to influence.

00:18:14.780 --> 00:18:16.444
His only power really is influence.

00:18:16.444 --> 00:18:29.006
He lies to us hoping that we'll act on that lie or believe that lie, and it just brings anxiety and fear and hopelessness and just all kinds of junk.

00:18:29.894 --> 00:18:41.241
And so one of the reasons I wrote the book, based on a couple decades of ministry experiences, is it is possible to get rid of that baggage.

00:18:41.241 --> 00:18:59.647
There's so many people, christians, who are full of anxiety and fear and living lives of chaos and anger and sexual dysfunction and just all kinds of things, hopelessness, and again.

00:18:59.647 --> 00:19:00.829
The list goes on and on.

00:19:00.829 --> 00:19:06.622
I just think that's just normal, that's just life, that's just part of life.

00:19:06.622 --> 00:19:08.622
And Jesus didn't say that.

00:19:08.622 --> 00:19:18.787
He said in John 10.10, I came to give you an abundant life, which doesn't mean every day is going to be easy, but every day can have peace and hope and joy.

00:19:18.787 --> 00:19:29.386
And so I think Christians have just settled in their mind that, well, this is just, this is the way it is, and we just got to grind it out until Jesus comes back.

00:19:29.386 --> 00:19:32.943
And that's not what he said and that's not what he wants.

00:19:34.655 --> 00:19:37.923
Now you mentioned about your book, you know, breaking Up With the Enemy.

00:19:37.923 --> 00:19:42.259
Can you tell us a little bit more about that book, the title of it?

00:19:42.259 --> 00:19:44.684
The title of it sounds like you know.

00:19:44.684 --> 00:19:55.815
It sounds like you know we're in obviously we're not, but it sounds like you know we're in a almost like a dating relationship with the enemy and we're thinking up with them.

00:19:55.815 --> 00:20:00.007
Can you tell us a little bit more about the title and about you know?

00:20:00.007 --> 00:20:01.862
What made you write the book?

00:20:02.615 --> 00:20:03.557
Yeah, yeah, that.

00:20:03.557 --> 00:20:13.428
So um it, yeah, it's not like we're dating the devil, but it's like like he kind of is, he's influencing us and it's like being in a dysfunctional relationship.

00:20:13.428 --> 00:20:16.578
Uh, and it's there.

00:20:16.578 --> 00:20:19.923
You know, sometimes you just it's, you don't know how to get out of it.

00:20:19.923 --> 00:20:21.605
You just don't know how to get out of it.

00:20:21.625 --> 00:20:34.087
And of course, we don't knowingly date the enemy, but we do come under that influence and a lot of people are in a relationship with the enemy and don't even know they're in a relationship with him.

00:20:34.087 --> 00:20:38.642
In other words, the only power the enemy has again is the power of our agreement.

00:20:38.642 --> 00:20:50.915
But the only way he works that out in our life is to speak to our mind, to lie to us, and he gives us a lot of truth when he twists it, just enough to get us 180 degrees out of whack.

00:20:50.915 --> 00:20:58.388
And so a lot of people don't recognize the lies of the enemy.

00:20:58.388 --> 00:21:03.522
They just think it's themselves thinking things through, because the enemy speaks to our conscience.

00:21:03.522 --> 00:21:12.744
You know, it's not some scary deep voice from the pit of hell, it's a voice because the devil speaks to our conscience.

00:21:12.744 --> 00:21:22.869
It sounds like us just thinking things through, and I'm sure a lot of you know the listeners out there have had conversations with themselves.

00:21:22.869 --> 00:21:24.416
You probably have, I have.

00:21:24.416 --> 00:21:28.144
We hear basically three voices other than other people.

00:21:28.144 --> 00:21:29.508
We hear our own voice.

00:21:29.508 --> 00:21:36.719
You know we think things through, but then there's the voice of God that speaks to us and there's the voice of the enemy.

00:21:37.540 --> 00:21:41.868
And I think a lot of Christians don't recognize either.

00:21:41.868 --> 00:21:45.324
They don't recognize the voice of God and they don't recognize the voice of God and they don't recognize the voice of the enemy.

00:21:45.324 --> 00:21:47.449
They just think it's them thinking things through.

00:21:47.449 --> 00:21:53.728
But because God speaks to our conscience, again it sounds like us because it's not audible.

00:21:53.728 --> 00:22:01.477
It's just these thoughts that come in, but a lot of times they're God thoughts, but a lot of times they're enemy thoughts.

00:22:01.477 --> 00:22:26.548
Enemy is speaking to our mind, you know, getting us to act in a way that's not good or filling us with despair and hopelessness, like you're not lovable, you're not worthy, nobody, you don't count, you're not valuable to other people, and it goes on and on and on, and the enemy just constantly speaks that to people, hoping that they'll believe that.

00:22:26.548 --> 00:22:35.684
And a lot of people do, and that's what brings the baggage into their life Anxiety, fear, hopelessness, all that stuff.

00:22:36.976 --> 00:22:40.807
You know you mentioned about those voices that the enemy speaks into us.

00:22:40.807 --> 00:22:43.541
I remember he does at times as well.

00:22:43.541 --> 00:22:52.624
You know, still to this day he does, and you know I think that goes back to what I mentioned before that he wants to still kill and destroy us.

00:22:52.624 --> 00:22:59.625
But I remember, you know times where he would say you know you're telling me that I was no good.

00:22:59.625 --> 00:23:02.280
You know I wasn't going to make it in this life.

00:23:02.280 --> 00:23:04.267
You're ugly.

00:23:04.267 --> 00:23:06.843
You know no woman is going to love you.

00:23:06.843 --> 00:23:17.008
You know all those voices coming into my head and I had to realize and I had to say hey, you know, get behind me, satan.

00:23:17.008 --> 00:23:20.241
You know I'm going to believe what God is telling me.

00:23:20.281 --> 00:23:25.820
Right, so you've experienced that.

00:23:25.820 --> 00:23:31.103
I think every Christian has experienced some degree of that, but most of them don't recognize it.

00:23:31.103 --> 00:23:35.204
They don't recognize the voice of the enemy.

00:23:36.978 --> 00:23:38.082
Why do you think that is?

00:23:39.236 --> 00:23:45.599
Well, again, because you know he's speaking to our conscience and we just think it's us thinking things through.

00:23:45.599 --> 00:24:07.030
And once you know so that's why I think this book is so helpful, again based on 20 years of ministry and doing seminars in this line of deliverance is once people kind of awaken themselves to the tactics of the enemy.

00:24:07.030 --> 00:24:15.337
They realize wait, so those aren't my own thoughts, that's the enemy.

00:24:15.337 --> 00:24:20.067
Putting those thoughts in there and then like oh, okay, and the more you are aware of that, the more you begin to recognize that.

00:24:20.067 --> 00:24:22.443
And it's the same with the voice of God.

00:24:22.443 --> 00:24:32.680
The voice of God can be audible and I think maybe I heard that once, but really most people that's not the experience.

00:24:32.680 --> 00:24:41.102
The Bible says it's this still small voice and again God speaks to our conscience and again it sounds like us.

00:24:41.102 --> 00:24:47.391
But it took me a while to really begin to recognize the voice of God.

00:24:47.391 --> 00:24:53.500
And even today it's like, okay, god, was that you, or is that me just thinking, or is that you?

00:24:53.500 --> 00:24:55.702
And if that's you, I'd like some confirmation.

00:24:55.702 --> 00:25:05.405
And so I think it's more subtle than we maybe expect and I think that's why people miss it, because they're waiting.

00:25:05.405 --> 00:25:09.790
Whether it's from God or the devil, they're waiting, you know, like say it's God.

00:25:09.790 --> 00:25:18.227
They're waiting for this big, boomy voice from heaven, you know, and that almost never happens.

00:25:18.227 --> 00:25:21.444
I suppose it could, but that's not generally how God speaks.

00:25:24.655 --> 00:25:26.402
Elijah had that same experience, but the same with the enemy.

00:25:26.402 --> 00:25:33.922
It's not some scary figure that shows up in your bedroom with horns and a tail and a pitchfork.

00:25:33.922 --> 00:25:40.221
It sounds like the voice of reason in our head, like did you see the way she rolled her eyes at you?

00:25:40.221 --> 00:25:41.423
Are you going to put up with that?

00:25:41.423 --> 00:25:44.843
You need to go tell her right now just what you think.

00:25:44.843 --> 00:25:49.252
You need to put her in her place, because if you don't do that, she's going to keep doing that and rolling over people.

00:25:49.252 --> 00:25:51.038
So you just give her a piece of your mind right now.

00:25:51.038 --> 00:25:52.584
You go and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

00:25:52.584 --> 00:25:57.804
I mean there's just thing after thing after thing that the enemy does.

00:25:57.804 --> 00:26:10.307
It tried to break up relationships, does try to break up relationships, try to load us down with hopelessness, just speaking to us and trying to influence us to act in a way that would be in disagreement with God.

00:26:12.936 --> 00:26:38.547
And I guess the way we get over that and the way we deal with that is obviously in reading of the Bible and, you know, studying the Bible, and also in then asking God to help us to distinguish those voices in our head and helping us to you know, know whose voice is actually speaking to us.

00:26:39.654 --> 00:26:40.538
Right, you're right.

00:26:40.538 --> 00:26:46.604
The more time you spend in God's Word, reading His Word, the more you learn His character and nature.

00:26:46.604 --> 00:26:52.279
And the Bible says the Holy Spirit actually speaks to you while you're reading the Word, helps you understand it.

00:26:52.279 --> 00:26:56.608
So that's a really important thing.

00:26:56.608 --> 00:27:02.347
But what I found I think here's something that's in my book that's really missing.

00:27:02.347 --> 00:27:13.836
What I found I think here's something that's in my book that's really missing is going back to our power and authority that God gave us, the same power and authority that kind of opened the doors to the enemy, gave them the legal consent.

00:27:13.836 --> 00:27:17.287
That power and authority came from us and our words.

00:27:17.287 --> 00:27:28.931
So we need to use that same power and authority to shut the lying mouth of the enemy, to get rid of their influence in our life.

00:27:28.931 --> 00:27:39.069
And that's one thing I didn't know, that's one thing that came to me later and that's how I've really been able to help people.

00:27:39.069 --> 00:27:53.742
So getting rid of the enemy a lot of people refer to that as deliverance, which is in the Bible like literally means rescue, and and Jesus said that's you know Matthew 10, seven and eight that we would have to do that in the Lord's prayer.

00:27:53.742 --> 00:27:55.441
He said deliver us from the evil one.

00:27:55.441 --> 00:27:57.719
So so we know that's a thing.

00:27:57.719 --> 00:27:59.423
So how do you do that?

00:27:59.423 --> 00:28:08.742
And it's really what I found is well, actually it's a three-step process, but the first two steps are dealing with the devil.

00:28:08.742 --> 00:28:12.455
The last one is getting filled up with Jesus.

00:28:12.455 --> 00:28:17.486
But the first step is breaking that agreement with the enemy.

00:28:17.486 --> 00:28:21.741
You have to break that agreement Now.

00:28:21.761 --> 00:28:27.682
I don't want to take a lot of time, but in Matthew 18, jesus is telling the parable of the unmerciful servant.

00:28:27.682 --> 00:28:31.019
There's a guy that runs up a big debt in the kingdom.

00:28:31.019 --> 00:28:36.500
He works for the king and the king calls him in and says, hey, you ran up this big debt, pay it back.

00:28:36.500 --> 00:28:38.164
But it was unpayable, it was too much money.

00:28:38.164 --> 00:28:46.432
He says I can't pay it, but please have mercy on me.

00:28:46.432 --> 00:28:52.076
And the king did, didn't throw him in jail.

00:28:52.076 --> 00:28:54.923
But then that same servant goes out and has another guy thrown in jail that owes him a small amount of money.

00:28:55.002 --> 00:29:10.651
And Jesus, his main focus here is teaching on forgiveness, and he's teaching here and elsewhere in the Bible that we, as believers, we need to forgive everyone, no matter what they've done.

00:29:10.651 --> 00:29:14.878
And that's difficult and again, that's maybe a topic we can tackle.

00:29:14.878 --> 00:29:21.328
Another day is forgiveness, but we're called to forgive everyone.

00:29:21.328 --> 00:29:35.301
And what Jesus says in Matthew 18, down about 35, well, 33, 34, 35, it says the king.

00:29:35.301 --> 00:29:40.130
Because the guy didn't forgive, the king had him thrown, turned him over to the jailer to be tortured.

00:29:40.130 --> 00:29:46.782
And then in verse 35, jesus says and that's what my heavenly father will do to you if you don't forgive your brother from your heart.

00:29:47.785 --> 00:29:49.818
Now I want to be really crystal clear.

00:29:49.818 --> 00:29:55.757
God is not a jailer, he's not a torturer, he's the giver of every good gift, he's the author of life.

00:29:55.757 --> 00:30:02.087
But there is a jailer and there is a torturer, and it's the enemy, it's the devil and his army of fallen angels.

00:30:02.087 --> 00:30:18.343
And what God is saying is I'm paraphrasing what Jesus is saying in this parable he's saying you need to forgive people, and if you don't forgive people, you're not agreeing with me, you're staying in disagreement.

00:30:18.343 --> 00:30:20.125
If you will not forgive someone.

00:30:20.125 --> 00:30:27.621
And if you stay in disagreement, you are opening the door to the jailer, to the torturer.

00:30:27.621 --> 00:30:37.442
And I can tell you, in 23 years of pastoring, I've helped hundreds of people, maybe a thousand, I don't know.

00:30:39.286 --> 00:30:46.815
Work through unforgiveness though.

00:30:46.815 --> 00:30:59.778
Work through unforgiveness because it's such a huge open door to the enemy, because if you willingly stay in unforgiveness, you are in disagreement with God, and when you're in disagreement with God you're in agreement with the enemy and it's your agreement with the enemy that opens those doors.

00:30:59.778 --> 00:31:03.508
So I would say that unforgiveness is the biggest open door to the enemy.

00:31:03.508 --> 00:31:09.186
So one of the keys in the book that we walk through it becomes more of a manual.

00:31:09.186 --> 00:31:11.862
The first several chapters are an explanation.

00:31:12.522 --> 00:31:18.185
In my book, breaking Up With the Enemy, the first few chapters are an explanation of you know, how do we get here?

00:31:18.185 --> 00:31:19.661
Why do we even have to deal with this?

00:31:19.661 --> 00:31:23.903
But the last part of the book is really more of a manual to walk through.

00:31:23.903 --> 00:31:25.546
How do you close that door?

00:31:25.546 --> 00:31:27.670
How do you cancel that legal consent?

00:31:27.670 --> 00:31:32.423
And then so that's step one cancel that consent we gave the enemy.

00:31:32.483 --> 00:31:35.376
Step two is then kick them out In the name of Jesus.

00:31:35.376 --> 00:31:36.598
You got to go Again.

00:31:36.598 --> 00:31:42.709
We're not possessed, but we're taking that authority, like Jesus told us in Luke 10, 19.

00:31:42.709 --> 00:31:50.061
He says I've given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy.

00:31:50.061 --> 00:31:50.603
Nothing will harm you.

00:31:50.603 --> 00:32:09.098
So we take that authority, we kick them out and then the third step is to fill up with the good stuff that comes from Jesus, because Jesus said if you sweep the house clean and don't fill it back up, the enemy's going to come back seven times stronger Again.

00:32:09.098 --> 00:32:12.602
We're not talking possession I mean, that's a real thing, but not with believers.

00:32:12.602 --> 00:32:14.223
We're talking oppression.

00:32:14.223 --> 00:32:28.819
We're talking influence, and so really that's the crux of the book helping people walk through that step by step, topic by topic.

00:32:28.839 --> 00:32:34.348
And in the other book, torn, you wrote about how many Christians mix the Old and New Covenants.

00:32:38.615 --> 00:32:42.323
What, does that look like and what's the problem with that?

00:32:42.323 --> 00:32:49.659
Yeah, so I realized that I was mixing a lot of the old covenant with the new covenant.

00:32:49.659 --> 00:33:03.470
So the whole Bible—I want to be clear on this as well—the whole Bible is God's Word and it's for us today, but we're not—there are parts of the Bible that we are no longer under.

00:33:03.470 --> 00:33:08.907
Now we need to understand it, but we're not under the Levitical law, for example.

00:33:08.907 --> 00:33:19.445
Jesus has fulfilled the law so that we don't have to, and so the new covenant is different than the old covenant.

00:33:19.445 --> 00:33:30.884
We're under the new covenant, not the old, and so— and so I think a lot of people mix things.

00:33:30.884 --> 00:33:32.431
You know one of the things.

00:33:32.611 --> 00:33:44.066
I guess that when I was younger, going to the Lutheran church, I remember asking my mom, because some of my friends in school went to the Catholic church and they had priests.

00:33:44.066 --> 00:33:47.058
It's like, mom, how come we don't have a priest?

00:33:47.058 --> 00:33:48.575
She's like, well, we don't need one.

00:33:48.575 --> 00:33:50.071
Well, why not?

00:33:50.071 --> 00:33:50.773
She goes.

00:33:50.773 --> 00:33:51.615
I don't know.

00:33:51.615 --> 00:33:57.294
So you know things—okay, so why do some churches have priests and some don't?

00:33:57.694 --> 00:34:14.715
But really, the question that got me and really was why I wrote the book Torn is okay, the New Testament says we're no longer under the law, that we've been set free of the law, we're under the Holy Spirit.

00:34:15.858 --> 00:34:23.617
So if we're not under the law and the Ten Commandments are referred to as the law, then are we under the Ten Commandments?

00:34:23.617 --> 00:34:30.681
And for years, as a pastor, I couldn't answer that question because it's like well, of course we're under the Ten Commandments.

00:34:30.681 --> 00:34:33.338
It sounds like heresy to say you're not under the Ten Commandments.

00:34:33.338 --> 00:34:43.121
Right and technically it is, but it's like okay, but so it's not right to say we're not under the Ten Commandments.

00:34:43.121 --> 00:34:45.485
But yet the Bible says we're no longer under the law.

00:34:45.485 --> 00:34:47.976
So how do we view the Ten Commandments?

00:34:47.976 --> 00:34:52.918
And I didn't have a good answer for that and I really had to research that.

00:34:52.918 --> 00:35:07.675
And the answer to that is really what caused me to think okay, now what other areas are we kind of confused about as far as the Old Covenant and the New Covenant?

00:35:07.675 --> 00:35:14.677
And so I cover, I don't know, 11, 12, or 13 different areas where we can get confused there.

00:35:16.349 --> 00:35:18.315
And thank you for explaining.

00:35:18.315 --> 00:35:20.302
You know the Old and New Covenant.

00:35:20.302 --> 00:35:27.498
You know because some people may, you know, not understand or not know what that actually means.

00:35:29.581 --> 00:35:33.717
Yeah, yeah, and when I was—so it all started.

00:35:33.717 --> 00:35:41.141
You know, when I'm, I suppose, third grade, my parents got me a Bible and I just started reading in it.

00:35:41.141 --> 00:35:49.344
But I didn't understand that—the between the old covenant and the new covenant.

00:35:49.344 --> 00:36:02.255
So you start reading things, like you know, men shouldn't cut their hair from the temples and you can't eat shellfish, or you know all these different sorts of like what, why are we not doing that?

00:36:02.255 --> 00:36:05.556
It's in the Bible and so it took me.

00:36:05.556 --> 00:36:14.322
So you just kind of ignore it, like, well, I don't understand it, so I'm going to ignore it, and it takes a few years—it took me a few years to get that figured out.

00:36:14.322 --> 00:36:19.842
But so there might be some of the listeners like, well, what about that Ten Commandment thing?

00:36:19.842 --> 00:36:22.416
I just want to just talk about that just really briefly.

00:36:22.416 --> 00:36:42.771
Here's what I found Everything in the New Covenant really is a higher standard than the old covenant, because we're led by the Holy Spirit now, not by rules and regulations etched out on a stone or a piece of paper.

00:36:43.670 --> 00:36:49.394
So, for example, the Ten Commandments says so.

00:36:49.394 --> 00:36:51.576
For example, the Ten Commandments says do not lie.

00:36:51.576 --> 00:36:54.797
So okay, if I don't lie, I follow that commandment.

00:36:54.797 --> 00:36:55.998
Good, all right.

00:36:55.998 --> 00:37:03.284
But the New Covenant says be a speaker of the truth, speak the truth in love.

00:37:03.284 --> 00:37:06.445
So that doesn't sound like difference, but it is different.

00:37:06.445 --> 00:37:10.027
So Old Covenant is don't lie.

00:37:10.027 --> 00:37:13.835
New Covenant is speak the truth.

00:37:13.835 --> 00:37:13.936
Okay.

00:37:13.936 --> 00:37:17.590
So that's different, that's a higher standard.

00:37:17.590 --> 00:37:23.534
Old Covenant says don't steal, All right, the Ten Commandments Do not steal, all right.

00:37:23.534 --> 00:37:28.177
So if I don't steal, I'm good, I'm obeying the commandment.

00:37:28.177 --> 00:37:34.782
But the new covenant says be generous and give to people generously.

00:37:34.782 --> 00:37:36.744
That's a higher standard.

00:37:37.744 --> 00:37:41.067
The Bible says do not kill, do not murder.

00:37:41.067 --> 00:37:48.938
More specifically, do not murder Like, okay, good, I haven't murdered anybody, so I'm fulfilling the commandments.

00:37:48.938 --> 00:37:58.184
But the new covenant says if you even think about that, if you even think poorly about someone, that's the same as murder.

00:37:58.184 --> 00:37:59.152
It's a higher standard.

00:37:59.152 --> 00:38:01.802
So we're called to speak life into people.

00:38:01.802 --> 00:38:03.750
So, old covenant don't murder them.

00:38:03.750 --> 00:38:06.695
New covenant speak life to them.

00:38:06.695 --> 00:38:11.384
So you kind of see how the new covenant is a higher standard.

00:38:11.384 --> 00:38:15.201
So are we under the Ten Commandments?

00:38:15.201 --> 00:38:17.469
Well, that's not even a good question.

00:38:17.469 --> 00:38:19.193
We're actually over the Ten Commandments.

00:38:19.193 --> 00:38:29.922
We're held to a higher standard, with the Holy Spirit speaking to our heart and leading and guiding us, and so that turned out to kind of be a long answer.

00:38:29.922 --> 00:38:36.083
But I just want to share something with your listeners that confused me for years.

00:38:37.369 --> 00:38:38.632
Yeah, thank you for that.

00:38:38.632 --> 00:38:52.432
You recently seen an influx of people under 40 in your church 40 in your church.

00:38:52.432 --> 00:38:57.000
Why is that happening and how can other churches experience growth in that?

00:38:57.039 --> 00:38:57.420
demographic.

00:38:57.420 --> 00:39:16.367
Yeah, because for years and years it was a lot of churches like well, we're all the young people and it was the baby boomers age, churches, aged, and in our church we've just been really blessed to have a lot of young people.

00:39:16.367 --> 00:39:37.253
A lot of them are married with children, some of them are single, a lot of Gen Zers single and I'm 63 years old, I'm an old guy with gray hair and I don't have pointy hair and I don't have ripped jeans, but we have all these young people coming and I think it's a couple reasons.

00:39:37.253 --> 00:39:45.085
You know where we speak the truth in an understandable, clear way and unapologetically.

00:39:45.085 --> 00:39:49.300
But there's also just the presence of the Holy Spirit there.

00:39:49.300 --> 00:40:25.217
You know you can speak truth apart from the Holy Spirit, right, but when you—this is going to—I don't want to make this sound like, you know, new Age or weird, but when there's an atmosphere of the Holy Spirit and people walk into that, a lot of them don't recognize that, but like there's something different here and it's not again because I'm trying to be relevant and comb my hair right way it's like no, we're just passionate about the presence of God.

00:40:25.217 --> 00:40:29.324
We're passionate about His presence, his power, his truth.

00:40:29.324 --> 00:40:47.461
So we're preaching truth, but we're also allowing time just to be in the presence of God through worship and without a lot of, I don't know, religiosity I guess that's the word.

00:40:47.461 --> 00:41:00.634
There's so much religiosity that has crept into churches over the years and that doesn't do much for people, and that's what Jesus came against.

00:41:00.634 --> 00:41:03.181
He didn't die for religion, he died for people.

00:41:03.181 --> 00:41:34.144
Right, as we get to the end, one of the last's available to us to work through us.

00:41:35.226 --> 00:41:47.777
That's something I didn't—I mean, I read in the Bible, but for years, even as a pastor, I didn't see a lot of God's power.

00:41:47.777 --> 00:41:51.851
I mean there was a lot of truth, and there's truth in power, for sure.

00:41:51.851 --> 00:42:08.911
But you know, for example, matthew 10, 7, and 8, jesus said to those who believe he said heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons freely of receive, freely give.

00:42:08.911 --> 00:42:09.208
Well, you read that.

00:42:09.208 --> 00:42:09.701
And it's like heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons freely of receive, freely give.

00:42:09.701 --> 00:42:14.155
Well, you read that, and it's like heal the sick, like what?

00:42:14.155 --> 00:42:25.019
And it's like okay, well, I'll skip on to something else, because, like, I can't heal the sick, but actually Jesus said you can and I want you to.

00:42:26.391 --> 00:42:29.617
And in John 14.6, 14.12,.

00:42:29.617 --> 00:42:46.737
He says the same things I do you'll do, and he talks so much about, you know, these miraculous things that work in the lives of a believer, and for years like, see, I'd read that because it's all over the New Testament.

00:42:46.737 --> 00:42:51.344
You read that and it's like, is that for today?

00:42:51.344 --> 00:42:54.077
And it's like I don't see where it's not for today.

00:42:54.077 --> 00:42:57.057
I don't see anywhere in the Bible that says, well, you don't need that anymore.

00:42:57.057 --> 00:42:58.081
It's not in the Bible.

00:42:58.081 --> 00:43:00.818
And so it was kind of a challenge to me.

00:43:00.818 --> 00:43:22.094
And when I just begin to step out and pray like the disciples modeled prayer for us, specifically in, say, areas of healing, I just all of a sudden God's power just began to flow and people were getting healed and saved and delivered and it was just His power.

00:43:22.094 --> 00:43:40.536
I guess if there's one word, it's power, and I think there's so many Christians kind of living a powerless Christianity, and so I think that's the biggest biblical principle that really has impacted me.

00:43:42.170 --> 00:43:50.925
Is that living like you were saying, living a powerless life, or not seeing healings, or not seeing miracles take place?

00:43:50.925 --> 00:44:01.945
Is that a lack of faith or a lack of doubt from what God is telling us that we have the power to do?

00:44:05.193 --> 00:44:10.202
I think it's all the above, although it doesn't take—he says the faith is the size of a mustard seed.

00:44:10.202 --> 00:44:11.023
Well, that's not big.

00:44:11.023 --> 00:44:27.554
I think it's been, honestly, a lot of bad teaching in the church, like, oh, that's not for today, and I'm like—and I was in a church for 12 years before I was a pastor that taught that it's not for today and I'm like, okay, and I just took that.

00:44:27.554 --> 00:44:28.360
I just like, well, it's not for today.

00:44:28.360 --> 00:44:29.547
And I'm like, okay, and I just took that.

00:44:29.547 --> 00:44:30.831
I just like, well, it's not for today.

00:44:31.552 --> 00:44:40.777
But then when God called me to be a pastor and I'm doing Bible school and Bible college and studying on my own, I'm like I can't find that anywhere.

00:44:40.777 --> 00:44:44.893
And I know people use 1 Corinthians 13,.

00:44:44.893 --> 00:44:50.016
When everything comes into perfection and when the perfect comes, you know those things will pass away.

00:44:50.016 --> 00:44:51.829
But like that's not what that's talking about.

00:44:51.829 --> 00:44:55.320
That's not what that's talking about at all.

00:44:55.320 --> 00:44:57.498
It's really bad hermeneutics.

00:44:57.498 --> 00:45:04.623
So I just honestly, I just couldn't find anywhere in the Bible where it said you don't need this.

00:45:04.623 --> 00:45:06.056
In fact, I found the opposite.

00:45:06.056 --> 00:45:06.811
Jesus said no, you need this stuff.

00:45:06.811 --> 00:45:07.471
You don't need this.

00:45:07.471 --> 00:45:08.492
In fact, I found the opposite.

00:45:08.492 --> 00:45:09.393
Jesus said no, you need this stuff.

00:45:09.393 --> 00:45:13.038
You need the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit working in your life.

00:45:13.038 --> 00:45:15.340
You need that as you witness.

00:45:15.340 --> 00:45:20.146
So some of it's bad teaching and a lot of it's just fear.

00:45:20.146 --> 00:45:28.655
Like okay, so I learned I could see the biblical truth.

00:45:28.655 --> 00:45:31.106
But now I'm fearful to step out and do that, because what if it doesn't happen?

00:45:32.070 --> 00:45:38.971
And what I realized, that was just my own junk, you know, because I used to pray prayers as a pastor.

00:45:38.971 --> 00:45:46.293
I called them namby-pamby prayers and I mean I didn't pray these words, but it was kind of.

00:45:46.293 --> 00:45:51.713
This attitude was oh you know, somebody came up, say, after church and wanted prayer for healing.

00:45:51.713 --> 00:45:52.996
I would pray something.

00:45:52.996 --> 00:46:05.797
I mean, I didn't pray these words, but the attitude was oh God, if you're not too tired and if we worship hard enough today and if Cindy here has been a good girl and you want to heal her, great.

00:46:05.797 --> 00:46:14.298
But if not, you know, we'll go home and eat roast beef and you know, whatever you want to do, and that's not a biblical prayer.

00:46:14.298 --> 00:46:21.119
And I knew that the prayer was as modeled by the disciples, in the name of Jesus, get up and walk.

00:46:21.119 --> 00:46:25.652
And I'm like, but what if I say that?

00:46:25.652 --> 00:46:29.315
What if I speak that and it doesn't happen?

00:46:29.315 --> 00:46:31.496
Well then I realize well that's lack of faith.

00:46:31.496 --> 00:46:38.682
And so I can tell you when I started doing that was May of 2010.

00:46:39.163 --> 00:46:47.650
I saw a gal with two herniated discs 32 years old, could hardly walk, came up to the front of the church after service and wanted prayer.

00:46:47.650 --> 00:46:55.797
Came up to the front of the church after service and wanted prayer and what came out of my mouth was in the name of Jesus, I command these herniated discs to be healed in Jesus' name.

00:46:55.797 --> 00:46:58.798
In the name of Jesus, I speak complete and total healing.

00:46:58.798 --> 00:47:08.987
I couldn't believe that came out of my mouth, but that's how the disciples taught us to pray, and she was instantly healed and it remains so today.

00:47:08.987 --> 00:47:19.882
She lives in the same town I do now, and that really kicked off a whole, really a new life for me.

00:47:19.882 --> 00:47:36.420
Not that I'm some you know TV faith healer with big hair and a white suit, but I'm simply proclaiming the truth of God's Word and following what Jesus asked us to do and told us to do.

00:47:36.420 --> 00:47:44.159
And not everybody I pray for gets healed, but most do, and honestly I just say it's kind of crazy.

00:47:44.159 --> 00:47:49.532
And so what I've been teaching in the church like in our church, one of the things I teach is.

00:47:49.532 --> 00:47:51.559
There's good weird and bad weird.

00:47:51.559 --> 00:47:54.771
There's a lot of bad weird things that happen in a church.

00:47:54.771 --> 00:48:01.304
You know, I personally I think handling snakes is kind of bad, weird, but whatever.

00:48:01.304 --> 00:48:06.621
There's just some bad weird things that are mostly fleshly manifestations of people.

00:48:06.621 --> 00:48:11.802
But then there's some things that are from God that are like, wow, that's weird.

00:48:14.291 --> 00:48:16.057
We do a lot of work in India.

00:48:16.057 --> 00:48:17.474
I've been there three times.

00:48:17.474 --> 00:48:24.476
The first time I went to India, a guy came up at one of our outdoor events and he had a broken leg.

00:48:24.476 --> 00:48:28.059
I mean it was dangling, eight-hour bus ride from the nearest hospital.

00:48:28.059 --> 00:48:37.793
We're way out in the villages and a Hindu guy, mostly Hindu people around, but I'd spoken about Jesus, I'd given them a gospel message.

00:48:37.793 --> 00:48:45.518
Many had responded for salvation and I said you know, jesus is alive today and if you need healing he wants to heal.

00:48:45.518 --> 00:48:48.003
You Come up up and we'll pray that this guy comes up.

00:48:48.003 --> 00:48:54.297
And I saw that dangly leg and I'm like I don't know.

00:48:54.297 --> 00:49:00.777
But I just kneeled down and put my hands on it and said in the name of Jesus, I command this leg to be healed.

00:49:00.777 --> 00:49:03.431
And it popped right back into place, swear to God.

00:49:03.431 --> 00:49:07.643
And he went off dancing and running and the village just went nuts.

00:49:08.250 --> 00:49:14.398
Now, if you don't believe that, I understand that, because if I wouldn't have been there myself I wouldn't have believed it.

00:49:14.398 --> 00:49:18.579
But it happened, and other things have happened like that before.

00:49:18.579 --> 00:49:23.112
Like that's—how I can say this that's weird, but it's good.

00:49:23.112 --> 00:49:25.701
Weird and it's stuff that Jesus said we should be doing.

00:49:25.701 --> 00:49:30.481
But I think there's a lot of reasons why we don't do it.

00:49:30.481 --> 00:49:42.135
But it's been a real I don't know, I guess change in my life to see God's power, because he loves people.

00:49:42.135 --> 00:49:43.577
That's why he's doing it.

00:49:43.577 --> 00:49:46.603
And he kind of spoke that to me.

00:49:46.603 --> 00:49:56.998
He said when you see these healings, make sure you tell people that I'm real and that I care, and so I'm always sure to do that.

00:49:56.998 --> 00:50:07.458
So anyway, that's one of the big principles that has changed my life and gives me even more passion to minister to people.

00:50:08.159 --> 00:50:29.996
Right, and I think sometimes, when it comes to specifically healing, I think it also depends on God's timing, maybe it's not God's timing for that person to be healed at that moment.

00:50:30.056 --> 00:50:36.422
Yes, and that's a thing, and I also know that God uses doctors and nurses to heal, and I'm very thankful for that.

00:50:36.422 --> 00:50:47.835
God used a doctor to save my life several years ago, and so you know I'd never discount that either.

00:50:47.835 --> 00:50:50.088
But I think a lot of times we wait until we're desperate before we pray to God for healing.

00:50:50.088 --> 00:50:51.793
Like you know, we wait until we're on our deathbed.

00:50:51.793 --> 00:50:53.518
Well, let's just really get around and pray.

00:50:53.518 --> 00:50:55.351
Well, how about you did that first?

00:50:55.351 --> 00:50:57.838
Or on your way to the doctor, maybe pray?

00:50:59.440 --> 00:51:00.503
Yeah, absolutely.

00:51:00.503 --> 00:51:09.503
One other last question I'd like to ask is can you give us an encouraging word to my listeners?

00:51:11.150 --> 00:51:19.784
Yeah, I would just say if—go after Jesus, don't go after religion.

00:51:19.784 --> 00:51:35.485
There are a lot of great churches out there that preach Jesus with clarity and the simplicity that Jesus originally had.

00:51:35.485 --> 00:51:47.018
Don't let bad experiences with religious people keep you away from a real healthy relationship with Jesus.

00:51:47.018 --> 00:51:56.367
You away from a real healthy relationship with Jesus and the other encouragement, especially as we're, you know, talking about this idea of deliverance.

00:51:56.367 --> 00:52:17.777
My book, breaking Up With the Enemy is don't just live like anxiety and fear and chaos and anger is normal and accepted.

00:52:17.777 --> 00:52:18.309
There is a way.

00:52:18.309 --> 00:52:19.333
Jesus says we have power and authority over that and you just need to take the steps to do that.

00:52:19.333 --> 00:52:24.567
Cancel your legal consent with the enemy, kick the enemy out and fill yourself up with the peace and presence of Jesus.

00:52:26.791 --> 00:52:30.481
And where can people buy your book and connect with you?

00:52:31.449 --> 00:52:36.019
Yeah, the best thing my books are available on Amazon.

00:52:36.019 --> 00:52:40.315
I think they're available other places too, but Amazon's, of course, the big one.

00:52:40.315 --> 00:52:43.983
So Breaking Up With the Enemy is the book on Amazon.

00:52:43.983 --> 00:52:48.141
But I also have a website that has not only links to those books, but I have a lot of.

00:52:48.141 --> 00:52:49.393
I have free e-books.

00:52:49.393 --> 00:52:50.576
I have free courses.

00:52:50.576 --> 00:52:52.400
I have some paid for courses.

00:52:52.400 --> 00:52:53.483
I have my blog.

00:52:53.483 --> 00:52:56.253
It's modaministriescom.

00:52:56.253 --> 00:53:00.300
M-o-t-a stands for ministry one to another.

00:53:00.300 --> 00:53:09.583
Modaministriescom is my website and there's tons of free resources on there, and if people want to get a hold of me, they can contact me through that.

00:53:09.583 --> 00:53:12.978
So that's the way to go is modeministriescom.

00:53:14.101 --> 00:53:14.501
Awesome.

00:53:14.501 --> 00:53:18.880
