Hello everyone, I was looking around for some Audacity videos so I could learn more about it and found Audacity Boot Camp by Mike Adams on udemy. It cost me about $12.00. 

The course is very good and gave me some pointers on how to use templates. I changed my current templates and it seems to work well.  Mike Adams does a very good job of passing on the information in a detailed way without getting overly technical. 

The examples he provides are relevant for folks doing podcasts specifically. Some of what is taught like LUFS, and normalization are handled by Buzzsprout. Buzzsprout has Magic Mastering that you can signup for that will handle a lot of these issues and give you a very good sounding podcast. I use it but still have to remove all the umms, errs and other sounds that are not welcomed.

On Audacity’s menu to the right of the Selection icon, it looks like a capital  “I” or Roman numeral one, you have the “Envelope” tool. If you have a single music intro outro this tool can be used to fade out the music when you start your intro and fade in the music when you complete your outro.

 It gives a lot of control on how quiet you want this music when you reach the speaking portion of your podcast. You can level it so it's nice background music or completely silence it until the outro is needed. For me I use 2 different songs so this isn’t an option.

Some other options that can save time are the metadata functions. I can set up custom track names along with track number, system date and system time so every new track I create will have this information embedded.

 Luckily the service I use, Buzzsprout, allows me to add this information. Macros can be created to do some repetitive functions. I create the macro script and pair it with key combinations. Each time I run the key combination that macro is run performing whatever task I assigned.

 Assigning special key or key combinations can be handled in Audacity also. I have assigned a few tasks to particular keys to make editing go a bit quicker. You can repurpose keys that are used for something else if you really want that key or keys to represent a new task.

Within Buzzsprout you may take advantage of their Magic Mastering or MM offer. This provides many of the functions that you can do in Audacity such as setting up for LOFFS or Loudness, leveling, optimization for spoken word or music depending on which is more prevalent in your podcast. 

There’s a charge for it of course. You would need to decide if it’s worth spending your time doing it or paying someone else. This is one of Ali Abdals items. He is a proponent of having a staff available to handle certain tasks so it all doesn’t fall on you.
