In the words of former Mayor Henry Cisneros, Texas, and San Antonio specifically are at a moment of “unprecedented and unstoppable growth.” We’ve all become familiar with the story of cities, even within our own state, becoming victims of their own success.
I’m creating this show, Ensemble Texas because I know San Antonio has the potential to do it differently. San Antonio can grow in a different, better way.
Ensemble Texas is a show about how (not if) San Antonio grows differently—rebuking the old models of growth at any cost and growth for growth’s sake. By exploring the environmental, economic, and cultural past, present, and future of this city, the region, and the state, this show connects San Antonians to a vision of growth for San Antonio’s sake.
While breaking news and divisiveness scream so loud that it can feel like all we hear—San Antonians need to hear the stories that teach, inspire, and energize but whisper of the people, places, and progress that have and will make for a more resilient, and thriving San Antonio.
This show is a conversation about how we address the challenges of the city’s past and present to capture and enjoy the opportunity for a more resilient, abundant, and even more storied future for all of San Antonio.
00:00:00.221 --> 00:00:02.629
San Antonio's changing in exciting fashion.
00:00:02.629 --> 00:00:19.353
In the words of former mayor Henry Cisneros, texas, and San Antonio specifically, are at a moment of unprecedented and unstoppable growth.
00:00:19.353 --> 00:00:54.878
We've all become familiar with the story of cities, even within our own state, becoming a victim of their own success skyrocketing home prices where those born and raised one day can't afford a home.
00:00:54.878 --> 00:01:13.731
An economic boom enjoyed mostly by outside corporate hqs where the small business suffers and ultimately shutters its doors, looking like like Anywhere USA, where trends of the time, be it architecture, development, retail stores or whatever else, devour the character of a city once uniquely its own.
00:01:13.731 --> 00:01:20.921
I'm creating this show, ensemble Texas, because I know San Antonio has the potential to do it differently.
00:01:35.073 --> 00:01:38.376
San Antonio can grow in a different, better way.
00:01:38.376 --> 00:01:53.125
Imagine 5, 10, 15, 20 years from now.
00:01:53.125 --> 00:01:59.102
Our small businesses, our restaurants, bookstores, music venues, coffee shops are thriving, not struggling to survive on the verge of becoming relics of the city's past.
00:01:59.102 --> 00:02:48.400
Our green spaces, biodiversity, management of water, waste and food tree canopy have all greatly expanded and evolved and provide cooler temperatures, clean water, air and abundant opportunity for recreation for all San Antonians, no matter their district boundaries, where the spirit of the city sings louder, with a vibrant ecosystem that supports making art, music, theater and more, because we committed now to be a city that believes nothing is more valuable than a unique and storied culture.
00:03:03.400 --> 00:03:21.433
Ensemble Texas is a show about how, not if San Antonio grows in a different way, rebuking the models of old growth at any cost, growth for growth's sake, through exploring the environmental, economic and cultural past, present and future of this city, the region and the state.
00:03:21.433 --> 00:03:27.127
This is a show that connects San Antonians to a vision of growth for San Antonio's sake.
00:03:27.127 --> 00:04:11.627
While breaking news and divisiveness screams so loud that can feel like all we hear, san Antonians need to hear the stories that teach, inspire and energize but sometimes whisper and energized, but sometimes whisper of the people, places and progress that have and will make for a more resilient and thriving San Antonio.
00:04:11.627 --> 00:04:28.394
This show is a conversation about how we address the challenges of the city's past and present to capture and enjoy the opportunity that is a more resilient, more abundant and even more storied future for all of San Antonio.
00:04:28.394 --> 00:04:56.785
I'm Corey Ames, your host, and this show is Ensemble Texas, so Thank you.
