Sonya and Necota Staples started their camping journey just a few short years ago and it quickly snowballed into off-roading and overlanding. With their newfound love of glamping, they wanted to share it with their friends and family, but no one understood why they wanted to “rough it” outside. So they started making YouTube videos to educate and encourage friends, family, and the Black and Brown community to experience the life-changing effect of the outdoors. Their newfound love and passion to experience the outdoors together made such a huge impression on them, that they became full-time
overlanders and adventurers.
But, there was a bigger purpose to their new lifestyle, and we unpack that in this episode.
We talk about their heart for breaking down barriers, increasing diversity in the outdoor adventure travel community, and challenging the negative stereotypes that people of color don’t dwell and thrive in outdoor spaces. They want to help people be comfortable, curious and confident in nature.
We also talk about how the outdoors saved their marriage and set them on this path of bringing people together to experience the great outdoors.
