A storytelling podcast focused on playwrights and the art of playwriting. Launched in 2020, Gather by the Ghost Light is a part of the Broadway Podcast Network and has produced over 75 audio play productions written by playwrights from around the world and has had over 50 writers as guests on the show. Playwright and host Jonathan Cook along with co-host Devon McSherry speak with playwrights and screenwriters to learn more about their process for crafting scripts for the stage and screen. They also have a talent for producing high quality audio plays with professional voice actors and immersive sound effects that help elevate each episode even more by providing a quick sample of their guest’s writing talent before each interview.

About the Hosts

Jonathan Cook

Creator and Host

Jonathan Cook (creator of Gather by the Ghost Light) is heavily involved in the fine arts as an actor, writer, and filmmaker. Many of his short plays have been produced in theatres around the World and his full length play Lobster Man was a finalist for the 2024 Ashland New Play Festival, a semifinalist for the 2023 Princess Grace Award, as well as a semi-finalist for the 2023 SE Texas Festival of New Plays and it is now set for its World premiere in January 2025. He is a seven-time recipient of the Porter Fleming Literary Award in the playwriting category and his works have been published in anthologies by Smith & Kraus, Black Bed Sheet Books, and Ghost Light Publications. Aside from playwriting, he has also written and directed several short films that have been presented in regional film festivals as well as distributed internationally on ShortsTV. He is also the host and producer of the radio theater podcast Gather by the Ghost Light. Launched in 2020, Gather by the Ghost Light is a playwright focused podcast where he interviews writers and produces high quality audio plays of their works on the show by voice actors and edited with immersive sound effects and music.

Devon McSherry

Co-host

Devon McSherry (co-host of Gather by the Ghost Light) has been involved in the arts for as long as she can remember. Music and theater was what brought her parents together and shaped her love of the arts. So much so that she went to college for musical theater and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BFA from Metropolitan State University of Denver. Wherever she went, Devon continued to perform and began writing plays and short films along the way. She currently teaches Musical Theatre at the Musical Theatre Workshop in Augusta, GA.
