Dr. David Spiegel sketched a scenario that might be all too familiar for many golfers - the mounting tension as a challenging shot approaches, the physical response of a quickened heartbeat, the sweaty grip, the tightening gut.
The anxiety, he explained, isn't really about the shot. It's a reaction to the anticipation of a negative outcome.
And the more we focus on that potential outcome, the bigger the anxiety snowball becomes.
By recognizing the physical signs of anxiety, you can consciously choose to slow it down.
It might not always go as planned, but that's part of the fun, isn't it?
