In this episode of Hard Beautiful Journey, I had the incredible pleasure of sitting down with one of my favorite people, Kim, the heart and soul behind Sand and Stone Jewelry. From the moment I met her at the RISE conference back in 2020, I was captivated by her infectious energy, heartfelt joy, and the way she used her journey to inspire everyone around her. We dove deep into her story, her thriving jewelry business, and how she navigated some of life’s toughest challenges with resilience, humor, and kindness.
The Heart Behind Sand and Stone Jewelry
Kim shared with us the origins of her business, which began 12 years ago with humble beginnings—plastic beads from Walmart and some makeshift designs. What started as a creative outlet while raising her daughter grew into a successful lifestyle brand. Today, Sand and Stone Jewelry offers a wide range of products, from beautifully crafted leather cuffs to cozy apparel, all designed with a message: to remind people to live their lives with intention, kindness, and beauty. Kim’s designs have evolved, but her mission remains the same: to bring joy and inspiration to others through her handcrafted pieces.
The Gold Heart Army
If you've ever seen Kim’s products, you’ll recognize the signature gold heart that adorns so many of her pieces. But what does it mean? For Kim, the heart symbolizes living life in a beautiful way, doing better, being kind, and showing up for others. It's a reminder that even in life’s darkest moments, there are tiny beautiful things all around us. The gold heart has become a beacon of hope for her community—her "Gold Heart Army"—and a symbol of the love and support that flows through everything Kim does.
Navigating Divorce and Finding Strength
We also touched on some of the harder parts of Kim’s journey. Like me, Kim has gone through the pain of divorce. And as she so beautifully shared, it’s a process that changes you in ways you never imagined. Giving up the title of "wife" was one of the most challenging things for her, but through it all, Kim found strength in her kids and her community. She opened up about how, in the hardest moments, it was the love and encouragement from her followers that kept her going.
Resilience in the Face of Financial Hardship
Kim’s journey hasn’t been without its financial challenges either. In one particularly tough summer, everything she had saved was suddenly gone, leaving her scrambling to provide for her children. Despite the setback, Kim found the strength to push forward, landing a job within days and balancing her full-time role with continuing Sand and Stone on the side. Her story is a testament to resilience, and it reminds us that even in the face of adversity, we can find a way to rise.
The Power of Community and Connection
One of the most beautiful things about Kim’s story is the way she shows up for her community. Whether through her Instagram posts or her beautifully packaged Christmas boxes filled with personal, handpicked items, Kim pours her heart into every connection she makes. She knows her customers on a personal level, and it’s this deep care that has built such a loyal following over the years.
Remember Her: A Message for Every Woman
One of the most touching moments of the interview came when Kim read from her book There is Something Beautiful in Every Day, The passage, titled Remember Her, encourages women to reconnect with the little girl they once were—the girl who lived without fear, loved unconditionally, and did things simply because they brought joy. It’s a powerful reminder to rise up and meet that little girl again, to live authentically and chase the dreams we had before the world told us who we should be.
Gratitude and Living a Life of Love
As always, I ended the episode by asking Kim what she’s grateful for. Her answer? Everything. From her morning cup of coffee to her kids and her job, Kim lives a life of deep gratitude. And that’s what I love about her—she embodies the message she shares. Even in life’s toughest moments, Kim refuses to give in to the dark. Instead, she chooses love, light, and the belief that there’s always something beautiful waiting around the corner.
