This week, Gemma sits down with Emmy Award-winning journalist Richelle Carey to discuss how she redefined career and parenthood, finding success and happiness on her own terms.
Richelle had been working in Doha, Qatar with Al Jazeera English, leading coverage of major world events, international affairs, and global politics. Her career had taken her all over the world, interviewing leaders like Fawzia Koofi - Afghanistan’s first female deputy speaker of parliament - and moderating the 2020 UN General Assembly Action Zone on the Covid-19 pandemic.
At age 42, with the advice of friends and doctors, she decided to freeze her eggs, and at 46, still overseas, began IVF. When IVF did not work, she began the adoption process, came back to the US, and at 49, became the proud mother of a baby boy.
In this episode of Have You Had This Conversation, we dive into Richelle’s incredible story of courage and conviction, and ask “how do you have it all - and on your own terms?”
