Even though “Dynasty” hasn’t been on television for over 30 years my obsession with the 1980 iconic nighttime soap is still alive and kicking. For example, whenever I see a post on my social media or a news story about a series or one of its stars I have to stop whatever I'm doing and take a minute to look at it. I even bought the entire nine-season DVD collection of the show - as well the ones for the show’s spectacular spin-off “The Colby’s”!
So you can imagine how excited I was when I attended the “Our Dynasty Tales From The Set” (later renamed "Cocktails With The Carringtons") event at Oscar’s Palm Springs in the winter of 2021 to see Dynasty stars Jack Coleman, Gordon Thomson, and John James live and in person to chat (and sing) about their colorful experiences on the iconic show! But it was the meet and greet afterward that blew my mind!
It was surreal meeting the charming and charismatic John James aka "JJ" (Jeff Colby), the delightfully good-natured Jack Coleman (Steven Carrington), and the hilarious Gordon Thomson (Adam Carrington) - who still had that wonderful devilish twinkle in his eye - in person! Thats the photo they signed for me that night above! That is now framed and is proudly hanging in my living room. :)
Luckily, I became friends with "JJ" following the event. He was one of the first people I asked to be a guest on my podcast and happily, he agreed - you can listen to his two episodes HERE. He was also instrumental in putting me in touch with Gordon and some of his fellow Dynasty/Colby co-stars to discuss the possibility of their also coming on the podcast. I can’t thank him enough for his friendship and help!
Lastly, I want to send a shout-out to Kevin Forde, Dylan Vox, and Jojo Odyssey, for putting up with Dynasty obsession over the years and Andrew Scott, David Neuendorff, Luis Xtravaganza Camacho, and David Arias for bringing my dream to meet the men of Dynasty come true. I will never forget it as long as I live!
Long live my Dynasty and The Colby’s obsession!
