Back in 2017, my best friend Jason Boegh invited me to go with him to a wrap party for a web series that he had just finished filming called “CLIMAX! The Series”
Little did I know that that night I would meet the actress who portrayed one of my favorite TV characters from my childhood!
Created by actress Maxie Solters, "CLIMAX! The Series" was a tantalizing comedy about a sex therapist who opens her practice and attracts a gaggle of crazy clients. And her mother was played by character actress Carole Ita White - who played Big Rosie Greenbaum on one of my favorite sitcoms growing up “Laverne & Shirley”!
So when my bestie said that he had done a scene with her and that she was going to be at the wrap party I couldn’t wait to go!
The moment we arrived at The Federal Bar in North Hollywood I searched the crowd for Carole but didn’t see her. Eventually, we bumped into Maxie and several of the other actors from the series. But still no Carole.
When she finally arrived and was greeted by her co-stars I got so excited that I nearly spilled my drink all over the table. Luckily, I composed myself just in time for Jason to introduce me to her. The moment we shook hands I had a flashback of me and my brother sitting on the couch - in the house we grew up in - laughing out loud as “Big Rosie” called Laverne and Shirley “bimbos” on our TV!
Just so you know…I’ve met hundreds of celebrities throughout my life and I hardly ever get starstruck except when the star is someone I remember from my childhood. And then I become a stuttering mess. Such was the case the night I met Carole. LOL
I don’t know exactly why I found Rosie so appealing back then, but every time she made an appearance on the show I couldn’t get enough of her. Maybe it was her tough, in-your-face attitude or because she was so damn funny. Whatever it was, I never forgot Rosie and here I was meeting the actress who played her on television in real life! Not only she was warm and gracious but when I explained to her my obsession with her character as a kid she smiled and gave me a big hug! It was truly a dream come true.
Now, a few years later, I find myself interviewing her for my podcast! What a blast! Thank goodness, I didn't stutter during the interview. Ha!
