Amari Burney, LB, Florida
This week we start with a colossal cheat code option for you IDP devy managers. Amari Burney of the Florida Gators is listed and plays linebacker, but on Fantrax he has defensive back eligibility. To be able to play a starting linebacker as a defensive back is exactly the type of scenario that we have been talking about each week on the Devy IDP Grind podcast. In the first four games this season, Burney has recorded 24 total tackles, 17 being solos, 3½ TFLs, three sacks, one forced fumble, one interception, and one PBU. He is currently rostered in just 37% of leagues, which is crazy low considering the DB eligibility. Burney is a terrific IDP Devy portfolio investment for not just this week (Florida plays Eastern Washington on Sunday) but long-term. Go check your leagues now and make the investment before someone else does.
David Ugwoegbu, LB, Oklahoma
It’s hard to find legit options at linebacker in IDP devy leagues at times, but I have a name that you should be looking to add to your IDP Devy portfolios, David Ugwoegbu. Through the first four games of the season, Ugwoegbu has recorded 34 total tackles (3rd in Big12 conference), 16 solos, two TFLs, one sack, and one safety. Not a lot of impact plays at this point but his 8.5 tackles per game make him a reliable option for your IDP devy teams. He faces TCU this week and should easily hit his tackle numbers. Ugwoegbu is rostered in just 15% of Fantrax leagues and has had a 14% roster increase since last week. This is why it pays to stay on top of waivers, as there are solid options that you can invest in and help you win games. It’s not always about the flashy big name, it’s the production that you want.
Caiden Woullard, DE, Miami (OH)
My final IDP Devy portfolio investment is a name that not many fantasy managers are aware of. Caiden Woullard is a sophomore defensive end for the Miami (OH) Redhawks and is off to a very nice start on the season. In four games played so far, Woullard has seven tackles, six being solos, with three TFLs, three sacks, one forced fumble, and one blocked kick. As you can see, he hasn’t provided a lot in terms of tackles but the sack numbers are there and that’s why you’re adding him. Miami (OH) has started conference play in the MAC and Woullard will get plenty of opportunities to get sacks. I also believe his tackles numbers will start to increase as well. This is his first year of any significant playing time so he’ll get better as the season goes on. He’s rostered in just 6% of Fantrax leagues and is a low-cost investment worth taking a shot on.
