For this week's article, I wanted to give you three names that not only can you start but are good IDP Devy portfolio upgrades overall. It’s not always about grabbing starters but improving the depth of your fantasy teams. The more you keep your IDP Devy portfolios upgraded the better options you will have if or when something goes wrong. Let's take a look at the four players I have selected for you to invest in.
Keith Randolph Jr, DL, Illinois
This week we start the IDP Devy Portfolio with red-shirt sophomore defensive tackle Keith Randolph Jr of Illinois. He is having a terrific season so far, as he’s recorded 30 tackles, 12 solos, eight TFLs, four sacks, one interception, and one PBU through six games played. Randolph has surpassed or is on a pace to break all of his previous career-best numbers. He’s averaging five tackles a game and ranks 2nd in TFLs (8) and 6th in sacks (4) in the Big Ten conference. Randolph has at least one TFL in the last five games and one sack in each of the last four. As an added bonus for IDP Devy fantasy managers, he has two career interceptions and two PBUs. He still has two more years of college eligibility left and had dual position eligibility in IDP Devy leagues. Randolph has NFL size and his NFL stock is trending up, so he’s a player that I am watching closely as an option for my NFL position-specific dynasty leagues. He’s a stock that has been rising all season and now is the time to invest in him before everyone else takes notice and his investment cost goes up. Randolph is rostered in just 22% of Fantrax leagues.
Francisco Mauigoa, LB, Washington State
For our next IDP Devy Portfolio investment with sophomore linebacker Francisco Mauiogoa of the Washington State Cougars. He only saw limited action as a freshman but has stepped into a solid starting role in year two. Through the first half of the college season, Mauigoa has just 26 tackles with 14 being solos but it’s all the extra stats that have been worth rostering him. He has 3½ TFLs, 2½ sacks, and one interception which he returned 95 yards for a score, one PBU, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. As you can see Mauigoa does a little bit of everything. I would like to see his tackle count (4.3 per game) go up but not concerned with what he’s doing now (4th on the team with 26 stops) as this is his first year with a significant role. He has two years of college eligibility left, so the potential return in the future is a big appeal for me. He’s a penny stock that you should invest in now that will provide a good return for IDP Devy portfolios now and even better in the future. He’s currently rostered in 32% of Fantrax leagues.
Jason Henderson, LB, Old Dominion
We continue the IDP Devy Portfolio with a player who for the life of me, I can’t believe isn’t rostered in 100% of IDP Devy leagues. Linebacker Jason Henderson of the Old Dominion Monarchs is having a season for the record books so far. Through the first half of the season, Henderson is as hot as any IDP Devy player there is. In five games played he leads the NCAA in total tackles (80/16 per game) and assisted stops (59/11.8 per game). Henderson also has five TFLs, one sack, and two PBUs on the season as well. He’s a tackling machine and anything extra is icing on the cake. Henderson has already set personal best numbers this season in tackles, assisted tackles, TFLs, and PBUs and there is still half a season to go. He’s just a sophomore, so he will have two more years of college eligibility left and he’s only going to get better. He’s rostered in only 12% of Fantrax leagues and has seen a 5.4% increase since last week. Still way too low but it appears fantasy managers are starting to take notice. Henderson is a great investment for your IDP Devy portfolios and the return he’s providing is huge.
Kendall Brooks, S, Michigan State
We finish up the IDP Devy Portfolio with a defensive back that you need to invest in. While the first three players above have long-term value, Brooks is a solid investment for this season. In six games played this year, Brooks has recorded 57 tackles (2nd in Big Ten), 28 solos, ½ TFL, one PBU, and three forced fumbles. He has been one of the Spartan's best defenders over the past four weeks as he’s really stepped his game up averaging 11.25 tackles per game over that stretch. Brooks has had double-digit tackles in two of the last three games, including 18 stops against Minnesota. If your IDP Devy portfolio has taken a hit due to injuries or ineffectiveness, then Brooks is a guy you definitely need to be investing in. Despite his hot play, he’s only rostered in a mere 2% of Fantrax leagues. Go get him now and watch the return on your investment roll in.
