For this week's article, I wanted to give you some names that not only can you start but are good IDP Devy portfolio upgrades overall. It’s not always about grabbing starters but improving the depth of your fantasy teams. The more you keep your IDP Devy portfolios upgraded the better options you will have if or when something goes wrong. Let's take a look at the four players I have selected for you to invest in.
Thomas Incoom, DL, Central Michigan
This week we start the IDP Devy Portfolio with senior defensive end Thomas Incoom of the Central Michigan Chippewa’s. He is not a big name in the IDP devy fantasy world but he should be. He is having a terrific season so far, as he’s recorded 30 tackles, 17 solos, 12 TFLs, 7½ sacks, and two fumble recoveries in eight games played. Incoom has surpassed all of his previous career-best numbers. Still not a believer? Okay if I asked you who was leading the NCAA in sacks, you wouldn’t say Incoom. But if you did, you would be right. He is tied for the NCAA lead with 7½ sacks and leads the MAC in TFLs (12). He’s also been one of the most consistent pass rushers in the nation this season. Incoom has recorded at least one sack in the last four games and in seven of eight this season. Look for this elite production to continue now that we’re deep into conference play. Despite how well he’s played, Incoom is rostered in just 62% of Fantrax leagues. If you need a championship-winning stock for your IDP Devy portfolios, then go get Incoom now.
Kahlef Hailassie, DB, Western Kentucky
For our next IDP Devy Portfolio investment with red-shirt junior defensive back Kahlef Hailassie of the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. He’s somewhat of a tweener, meaning he plays and has the size to play both cornerback and safety. Hailassie is one of the top defensive players in CUSA this season, as he ranks in the top five of the conference in four categories and the top ten in another. On the season Hailasse has played eight games and registered 48 tackles, 33 solos (9th in CUSA), eight TFLs (3rd), three sacks, two forced fumbles (1st), one fumble recovery, two interceptions (5th), and eight PBUs (4th). He has at least five tackles in seven of the eight games played and supports a 69.75% solo tackle rate this season. The former Oregon Ducks transfer is having a terrific season and has made a huge impact this season. Hailassie is rostered in just 42% of Fantrax leagues and his dual eligibility at safety and cornerback makes him an excellent IDP Devy portfolio addition.
KD Davis, LB, North Texas
We continue the IDP Devy Portfolio with a player who may have first heard about last year. KD Davis, for the North Texas Mean Green. Davis is a super senior and has been an IDP devy favorite starting last year. He has a career total of 372 tackles and counting, with a personal best of 120 stops (9.23 avg per game) in 2021. He led CUSA in tackles last season and is doing it again this year (84 total/10.5 per game). Davis has five games this season with ten or more tackles and 17 such games for his career. He’s currently on a four-game streak of double-digit tackles, which included a career-high 19 two weeks ago versus the Louisiana Tech Rajun Cajuns. I know his TFLs and sacks are way down from last season, but he’s been asked to play a different role this year. Davis is a tackling machine and if your IDP Devy fantasy teams need consistent high-end production, then Davis is a great plug-and-play investment. It’s surprising that a high-caliber scorer such as Davis is only rostered in 26% of Fantrax leagues.
Karl Brooks, DT, Bowling Green
We finish up the IDP Devy Portfolio with a defensive tackle you need to invest in. I mentioned Brooks a few weeks ago in this series, as someone that you needed to add to your IDP Devy portfolios, but as of today he’s still just rostered in 17% of Fantrax leagues. While that is a 7% increase since that time, it’s way too low for a player that can help you win an IDP Devy championship. I chose Brooks this week as my Devy IDP Grind podcast Defensive Player of the Week winner as he had a box score of three tackles, all solos, three TFLs, three sacks, and one forced fumble. I told you a few weeks ago when conference play started and he had a big game versus the Akron Zips, that I expected him to continue to dominate and he has. Brooks is tied (with Thomas Incoom above) for the NCAA lead in sacks (7½) and is 4th in the nation in TFLs (12). He’s on a bye this week but this is a no-brainer IDP Devy stock investment for your portfolios.
