IDP Draft Review: Buffalo Bills

IDP Draft Review: Buffalo Bills

In this series, I am going to do a quick IDP daft review for each team. We’ll take a look at their IDP draft haul, what it means for their team, and the impact it will have on fantasy managers. We continue the series with the Buffalo Bills who are led by head coach  Sean McDermott,  who led the Bills to a 13-3 record and an AFC East Division Title. The best teams usually have the fewest holes to fill, but that doesn’t mean their rosters are perfect. Let’s get started and take a deep dive into their IDP draft haul.

3rd Round 91st overall - Dorian Williams, LB, Tulane

The Buffalo Bills made some tough decisions at LB as they let  Tremaine Edmunds  leave in free agency but re-signed  Matt Milano.  With Edmunds gone, there is a big hole to fill and not a lot of proven depth on the roster. Youngsters  Tyrel Dodson  and  Terrel Bernard  are the top in-house candidates, but the Bills also drafted another youngster to compete for that opening. With the 91st overall pick, they selected  Dorian Williams  from Tulane, where he totaled 316 career tackles. That included the 132 last season which ranked 9th in the NCAA.

The Bills are getting maybe one of the steals of the draft in Williams, who has the size (6’2”/230 lbs), speed (4.49 40-yd), and range to Pick right up where Edmunds left off. He’s a terrific run defender, who can cover sideline to sideline, attack and hit with power, and the instincts and play recognition that will get him on the field sooner rather than later. For the fantasy football enthusiast, he’s a solid IDP rookie option. In what’s labeled as a weak LB class, Williams may be the diamond in the rough that everyone is looking for.

7th Round 252nd overall - Alex Austin, CB, Oregon State

The Buffalo Bills only used two of their six picks on defense and with the last one, they selected CB  Alex Austin  from Oregon State. Austin is a taller corner (6’1”) that is a former WR and kick returner. I expect that special teams will be his calling card as he has sprinter speed and history in the 100m & 200m in his background. Austin has fluid movements and does a decent job of mirroring receivers. He doesn’t seem to get rattled very often as he stays calm, and patient, and believes in his talents. A really good developmental corner for the Bills and a possible future starter. In fantasy, there are way too many options for you to draft Austin. Wait and pick him up off waivers when he shows he’s worth rostering.
