Kerry John Poynter
Audio Engineer, Podcast Producer and Host
Kerry John Poynter is a classically trained musician from an early age of 10. He mastered the Clarinet and trained is vocal abilities in various musicals and as a music major in college at Ball State University. He received high honors through college as a music major in an electronic music technology program. However, he ultimately found a calling in education and decided to pursue a successful career in higher education administration. He was one of few professionals in the late 90's to spearhead services and educational program for LGBTQIA+ young adults in college. Awarded for his efforts by Duke University, Western Michigan University, and by student leaders at the University of Illinois Springfield. Music was still his 2nd love, especially electronic music, remix dance sounds, and students at Duke University coined the term "it's club Kerry" as these sounds proliferated continuously in the office.
Experimenting with podcasting as a very early adopter in January of 2009, his first podcast named Club Kerry NYC was born. Sharing DJ continuous sets to uplift sounds and artists from the underground electronic vocal house community. His musical and creative outlet became something more than just a hobby. In 2022, he offered CKNYC, now a top 1% ranked podcast globally (Listen Score) and numerous other accolades, to Madonna Remixers United to test run what would become 14 episodes (two podcasts on one feed). Like A Muse: Madonna Remixes spawned from CKNYC in 2023 and has since charted across the globe in the top 100 (often top 10) podcast charts in music and music interview categories. Kerry decided to return to his first love and earned an audio technology degree (audio engineering) from SAE Institute NYC in 2023. He graduate with "highest honors", a distinction that a select few achieved. Nominated for a 50 Over 50 Podcast Award in 2025.
