Did you know: Australia is one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) countries in the world. Yep! 3 in 10 were born overseas, and 1 in 5 speak a language other than English at home. People from CALD backgrounds are at risk of poorer health outcomes compared to other Aussies, so it's real important that us psychs know the ins and outs of working with this population. Today on Mental Work, Bron is joined by Neeraja Shankar (Clinical Psychology Trainee/PhD Candidate) to unpack what we need to know about working with CALD clients. They chat about ππ½ Assumptions that psychs can make about CALD clients ππ» What the research says about cultural differences in parenting styles π How to approach sessions with CALD clients ππΏ Why it's helpful to be aware of your biases (we all have them).
Mental Work is the podcast unpacking the challenges faced by early career psychologists, so they donβt have to go it alone. Hosted by Dr Bronwyn Milkins.
