Boston’s nightlife is about to welcome an exciting new chapter. On Tuesday, December 17th, Women.wav launches with the Ladies DJ Meetup at The Playwright, a night dedicated to celebrating female talent. Led by Sierra Pelino, better known as DJ Citrine, the event is set to inspire and empower women in the music industry. With a career spanning Boston’s bars and top nightclubs, Citrine is now channeling her experience into creating a supportive space where female artists can connect and thrive.
This isn’t just a night of music—it’s about building community, sparking creativity, and amplifying voices in an industry where women are often underrepresented. “It only seemed natural for the first event to be a DJ meetup dedicated to ladies,” says Pelino. “It’s a space to showcase talent, inspire each other, and, most importantly, have fun.”
What to Expect and the Mission Behind Women.wav
The Ladies DJ Meetup offers more than just performances. It’s a blend of music, networking, and learning opportunities, designed to foster collaboration and growth. “This is about inspiring one another and discovering new possibilities,” Citrine explains. “You might connect with someone who shares your passion for a genre or discover a sound that sparks your creativity.”
Welcoming DJs of all experience levels, the event provides a judgment-free environment to learn and experiment. “Starting out can feel daunting,” Pelino acknowledges. “I wish I’d had more women to guide me when I began. This is about creating a space where we can grow together.”
The event also serves as the official launch of Women.wav, a platform Citrine created to amplify female talent and foster community. “I wanted to find more female DJ friends, and then I realized I could create that space myself,” she shares.
Pronounced “wave,” the name symbolizes the rising tide of female talent breaking barriers in a male-dominated field. “Representation is vital,” Pelino emphasizes. “Women.wav is about empowering creativity and building a supportive network for female DJs.”
Why The Playwright?
For Citrine, The Playwright was the natural choice. “The staff has always been super supportive of my sets and seem to genuinely enjoy the music being played,” she explains. “Why not host an event at a place that already supports female DJs?” With its recent renovations, the venue offers an upgraded, one-of-a-kind experience for attendees.
