You're listening to my Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1168. Today's Devo is called the Return to Nazareth. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Good morning, everybody. I hope that you're having a wonderful day and Merry Christmas. I don't know where you're from or where you're listening from here in Miami, Christmas is done a little bit different. Some people do opening gifts the 24th, some people do the 25th. So whenever it is that you open gifts, whether yesterday or today, I hope that you had a wonderful time and that you got what you really wanted. Today we're going to do a devotional on another prophecy and is found in Matthew 2, 16, 23. I'm actually going to pick up on verse 19, but if you guys notice, we've actually spent the last three days just on Matthew 2. And that's how amazing these stories are that in just one chapter we get so much rich history in the story of Jesus.
00:01:16.792 --> 00:02:12.158
And so verse 19 says. But when Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, rise, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the child's life are dead. And he rose and took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel. But when he had heard that the Archelaus was reigning over Judea in the place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And being warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of Galilee and he went and lived in a city called Nazareth, so that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, that he would be called a Nazarene. This is awesome because this really just follows from the story that we heard yesterday. In the moment Jesus was here, prophecies just came to pass.
00:02:12.538 --> 00:02:45.394
And I actually got the privilege of going to Israel a couple of years back. And if you continue to do a little bit of research, the town of Nazareth was considered kind of like. It was like this really small town and people would say that nothing good would come out of that town. And while we were there, the truth is the town was still run down. It was kind of the town of, of Israel that I was like, wow. This is probably the scariest and not as pretty as the other ones, but prophets, we fulfilled that.
00:02:45.481 --> 00:04:12.879
Even though people said that Jesus lived and a great thing came from it, he would be called a Nazarene, Jesus lived in Nazareth and he spent time there. And these were things that prophets had written many years before. And then all these things came to pass. And so again, I just encourage you today to spend some time worshiping God like we said in the first episode, just thanked him and just remember how all these things that God said would come to pass came to pass. So we know that we can trust God's word and that means that there's promises for us that will come to pass and we can trust Jesus words and promises. So let's pray. Father God, thank you for another wonderful day with family. I pray that you will continue to bless every listener, that you will continue to fill their homes with joy, that you will continue to fill them homes with love and peace, and that they just have an amazing Christmas season in a new year season. Father, let them end the year strong. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to tune take on your day. If you found value in this devotional, share it with a friend, leave a comment or review for us on the app you're using right now.
