Theresa Lambert:Have the New Year. Happy New Year? Know what that sounds like? Happy, happy New Year from land i Another year on the dissecting success podcast. Isn't that crazy? 2023? Boom.
Blair Kaplan Venables:How did we get here? Here? Yeah, how did we do it? I don't know.
Theresa Lambert:I feel like I need 22 was an interesting yeah, I'm just gonna say 2022 was interesting. 2022 was different. 2022 was filled with a lot of lessons. And you know, one of the biggest, biggest things that I have learned land, oh, maybe it's not so much land because I've always known this, but I feel like I've integrated it at a deeper level. That's what I should say is that your ability to focus is a direct reflection of your ability to create results. And I lost focus for a lot of the year. And I'm not judging myself for it like this is like me sharing this from a really compassionate place. But I lost focus, I lost focus before I fought I lost focus on on what was important to me in terms of how I wanted to build my business. And then when I dismantled the the big life change of 2022. The cookie came crumbling down and being in a place where I was prioritizing my healing, which was really important. Focusing was really difficult. But the thing that helped me throughout all that was that I had a plan that I had a plan and that was the only thing that kept me focused. Because in the in the writing of the emotional wave and the healing in the crying on the floor in the shitshow of my life. I needed something to give me some direction and and I stopped taking on clients and I really rethought everything. But that's when it really started to sink in at just a deeper level that that I'm focusing is so so important. So important.
Blair Kaplan Venables:Yes, like, Okay, first of all, I want to acknowledge that you went through a really big life change in your personal life. And it is so hard to also run a business and be responsible for the development and growth of other people and their businesses while you're trying to hold your shit together. So I think you're brave and beautiful. And you did a really great job at dismantling and boundaries and focusing. And I walked alongside you and our listeners walked alongside you and from firsthand met, you know navigating so much loss while running a business. I understand because I love my business. I love this podcast. I love what we do together. I love what I do on my own. And it's in my control. So when life gets so crazy, like divorce, people dying illness, when things are so far out of our control. There's a place of comfort when we can follow a plan and control certain elements of our life, like our business. And it's interesting because I focus. I am undiagnosed but I'm pretty sure I have ADHD and if I'm focused and I have a plan and I follow it. I get stuff done. I'm efficient, I make money. If I deviate from the plan, my brain gets scattered. If I deviate from the plan, I take the long route to the success, I take the long route to success, I will, it's like I throw the map out the window. And I'm just driving when I, you know, could have made a right turn and been there. And so I know I'm going into 2023. Like, you know, it's a couple days into the year I'm now officially four days, I mean, 44 days, four years, sober. And last couple years, both started off last year and the year before with like the loss of a parent. And this year, my focus is my business. My focus is my health. And I have a plan for both. I have a plan for the year, a plan for each month, a plan for each week and a plan for each day. If I follow the plan, I will achieve my goals. That's how it's always been. And I love a plan. Like I'm terrible in the kitchen. You give me a recipe if I follow it. Exactly. It'll taste good. But my husband, he just like pulls ingredients out and throws it in a pot and works his magic and it's always delicious. When I do that it tastes like dog food.
Theresa Lambert:I mean, I cook like chain, but I don't cook my business like that. i Oh, like you like as much as I am. Love to express my creativity Freedy make pivots in my plan. Even sometimes I really I'm with you one fucking 1,000% Like, if I deviate from the plan, shit doesn't work. And I was even thinking about that. Like, again, like I still think about that a lot. Like just for everyone like just putting this out there as somebody who's a strategist like I strategize. This is my number one strength. I'm a strategist, I come up with strategies, I come up with plans, and I make shit happen. I'm the kind of person that people call like, this is how I've built like, before, I was a business coach, before I was a strategist and helping entrepreneurs build their businesses, I ran a boutique hotel, and I scaled it from seven to eight figures. And within the community, I had a bit of a reputation. And I developed a reputation that if shit goes sideways, and it's in shambles, and you need a plan to pull people out call Teresa. Which was big. So it's
Blair Kaplan Venables:still like that. But
Theresa Lambert:still like that, but I have a little aversion to like, you know, I'm like, I kind of like you know, I'm kind of at the stage now where I'm really feeling called to say, hey, you've hit a certain level in your business and it's not terrible, okay, it's not terrible. Like you've made it to that point, you're making multiple multiple five figures like high five figures in your business already and you're ready for the six figures, you're ready for multiple six figures and or more. And you want somebody to help you come up with a plan that allows you not only be successful, but have the freedom to play have the time and that also is why a plan is so important because play you and I know that when we don't have plans and we flow and we deviate from the plan, things take longer, they take more effort, it's more fucking frustrating. And that means less money, more stress, more hustle, like we fall back into our like hustle selves because both you and I are like recovering hustlers.
Blair Kaplan Venables:I'm a recovering hustler. Hi, my name is Blair, and I'm a hustler. Recovering hustler. I live with hustle itis hustle like we are we want to live in a place of ease and comfort and following the plan and like not having stress. We want to be in a place of living in a proactive state, not a reactive state. We've done that. But our nervous systems need a break. And we've done a lot of learning the hard way. I know my business is about 15 years old, and I learned a lot of shit the hard way so my clients don't have to. And you don't have to do things the hard way. Like there is an easy button. It's a lot it's still work, but there is an easy button in business. And you can press it.
Theresa Lambert:Yeah, and we're gonna help you press it because we're bringing velocity back. And velocity is freaking epic. And I just remember when we did velocity last time, which is actually more than eight years since we've hosted this free, three hour free free that's hard for me to say it's free. Last favorite word free. You don't have to pay three hour workshop work plan I actually support you to build a strategy A way of magnitude and direction so that you can create momentum in your business so that you can stay focused so that you know when to take the right turn, instead of going 10 blocks around the corner and back five times, and then back to where you started and then take a right, we are going to help you and support you and get you on track to know how to stay focused. Because you can have a plan on how you're going to do it.
Blair Kaplan Venables:Yeah. Okay. First of all, yes, free is my favorite four letter F word. And I give I do give a lot away for free because I believe in givers gain I believe in, you know, I want to teach you, not everyone could always come into my world, I have a capacity. Sometimes people have budgets. So when Theresa and I come together to lead a free three hour workshop, and it only happens once a year, maybe twice if you're lucky, but usually only once a year, you want to get in. So if you're thinking is velocity, right for me, like should I come for free? Well, first of all, yes. But do you feel in control of your business? Was 2022 a year you lost control? Or you didn't have control? And you're ready to take back control? Do you currently have a business and social media publicity plan? Do you have a strategy? Or do you find yourself questioning every decision you make or after you make the decision, you have guilt, you're in a shame spiral for spending that money in that time and doing the wrong thing. If that's you, we get it because we've been there too. We've been there too. Teresa took a boutique hotel from a seven figure to eight figure business. I've been in business for over 15 years. And I was doing the math and I'm bad at math. But I think there's at least 30,000 hours of social media work for clients in there. I was trying to figure out how many hours have I been doing social media. And it's probably even more because in the beginning, I pulled like 15 to 20 hour days. So why don't we create a plan with you? In velocity, we work together with you to not just teach you, but show you how to build a strategy with magnitude and direction. Magnitude and direction like is 2023, the year where you're going to kind of go half assed and your business are you ready to make serious money. And I'm not like fluffing this up. It's not like oh, you're gonna come and make $100,000 month, I've never even done that. But when you have a plan, and you follow it, you will succeed. And it's all about baby steps. And it starts with learning how to make a plan.
Theresa Lambert:I love that. And bringing it back to what I said at the beginning, your ability to focus is a direct reflection of the ability of the result you're going to be able to create. So what result do you want in 2023? Do you want to be in the same place by the end of the year or you actually want to get to the end of DNB like thought this was an epic year I stayed focus. And look at what I did look at how far I've come look at what's possible. Look at what I did, because I focused. I know that is what I want for you. And that is what Blair wants for you. And that is what we want for each other is gonna be a it's our year is like our year like, I feel like that's what we were at the beginning of 2022. And then we were thrown a million freaking curveballs and we're coming into 2023 I feel like with more self love, more compassion, more grit, more resilience and more strength
Blair Kaplan Venables:because of bed less and less hassle, less hustle and less hustle.
Theresa Lambert:And you know, I feel like one thing I want to share as we're wrapping this up is that this is a mulligan recording. Yep, this is a mulligan recording. And this is a really great example of why focus is so important. Yesterday, we were supposed to record this. I was sitting at the beach. And like my doing my thing at the beach swimming and just like having some beach time and I get a message from Blair and she's like, Oh, we're still recording and I was like shit, like it's not in my calendar somehow. Even though blasts send me an invite it didn't make in my calendar. So I was like, Oh, it's fine. It's fine. We'll do it. We'll do it like Omega whack I felt horrible for like really wasting her time. I really don't like that and I know Blair is like a very forgiving human and you know, we we hold space for each other for situations like that, but it's not like need to miss a meeting. And so anyways, I got myself back here and I wasn't focused and we recorded the episode and I was just I was like, I was not feeling it. I was not in a mood. felt like just an episode to record an episode. And then we were chatting later that they trying to figure out when we can redo this episode, or should we be doing it and even questioning whether we should be launching, velocity and momentum. And so anyways, we came full circle and I said to play, I was like, no, like, I want to go ahead and do it, I just like, let's just record it tomorrow. It's just, it just didn't feel like we were focused. And it didn't feel like the conversation was going anywhere. And I don't like doing things just for the sake of doing things. And that right there I think ties into what we were talking about. Because don't just go through the motions to do the motions. When you have a plan, there is an intention behind why you're doing the thing that you're doing. There is focus to what you're doing, right. Like, it's like we're having this podcast, and we're over 100 episodes and and a couple of people now have said, Wow, you made it over 100 episodes, most podcasts finish at like seven episodes. But then I can see it because it's easy to lose focus. It's easy to to say I'm going to have this podcast, and we're going to talk about success, right? But like long term sustainable success comes from focus, you want to do anything successfully. Focus, why did you start it in the first place, and we didn't start this podcast just to have conversations, for the sake of having conversations, we started to make a point around your success. And I'm really happy that we recorded it because honestly, it just this is wait just wasn't the right. And this is way better. And it I feel like it also gave us something to respond to, that is so relevant to what we'll be teaching you and what we'll be doing. So with that being said, come join us. It's happening tomorrow,
Blair Kaplan Venables:January 4, at so go to Theresa Lambert coaching.com/velocity. And the link is in the show notes. So you can join us for velocity live, it's a three hour masterclass. If you can't make it live, you're going to have access to the recordings. So if you can't be there, and we want you to take this in. So if you can't be there, that's okay. Because after velocity, we lead into a really fun challenge where we take everything that we taught you, and we implement it and Theresa and I hold your hand, we show you what to do and do it alongside you. It's a really fun challenge. Some of you have been following us since episode one. Some of you have been in the challenge both times we're doing it again, it's going to be bigger and even better and more fun. And when you go to the link in the show notes or Theresa lambert coaching.com/velocity, you'll see a bit more about what's happening in velocity. But I think what you need to understand is that it's now the beginning of the year. Do you have a business strategy? They don't need to be this complicated, like textbooks like simple business strategies work, simple social media strategies work. Are you a thought leader? Like is the media coming to you or your clients finding you or other industry experts following you and being inspired by you? You want to be a thought leader? How do you do that? And also, you digest all of these tools from people like me and Teresa and all these other experts out there. But then what are you implementing? Are you using these tools to implement? Hey, it's so easy to get overwhelmed. It doesn't have to be complicated. It really doesn't you know writing writing out on a post it note or napkin you know, your social media strategy or your business strategy is better than just throwing shit at the wall and hoping it's gonna stick and let me tell you I literally was born to plan like plan is in the middle of my name Kaplan. Like I literally was born to plan. We put the plan in Kaplan and if you come live, there's going to be some bonus activations. If you're there live, you have a chance to potentially win something very exciting. And you have the time to spend with me and Theresa like three hours with us. Three hours with us. Velocity is really fun. I believe in giving back I believe in giving you the tools you need and you can decide what you want to do with them after but let's start the year off a lot of us are rested from the holidays. You know we've drank a lot of eggnog we haven't left the couch who went into the vortex of not knowing what day it is what time it is. That's okay. It is the new year it is time to kick some ass. So we welcome you into velocity. January 4 is where it starts. Can't be there live sign up, catch the replay spread the love to Your other business colleagues, because it's free. And we are here to set you up to have a fucking epic, focused, successful 2023 Thank you for tuning in to another episode of dissecting success. Thank you for tuning in to the first episode of 2023.
