Loving My Library as a Career Choice with Guest Monique Liddle | HR33

Meet Monique Liddle. She is the Manager of Operations at the City of North Vancouver Library. It is a place she has called “home” for over a decade and not a place that she had originally envisioned working when she graduated from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) with her certification in Interior Design Management. Our libraries are so much more than a repository of books and information. Monique was able to use the skills and expertise she had built over the years to secure a similar and yet very different type of position within her local library. That was many years ago now. Monique has continued to grow and thrive with the library. And yes, she has even been able to use her training in interior design!

Learn more about what the library can do for you – including as a potential career path.

About the Guest – Monique Liddle

Monique graduated from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) with certification in Interior Design Management. As it was difficult to find employment in that discipline right out of school, she continued working in the food service industry, starting as an Assistant Front-End Supervisor with Extra Foods, then becoming the Front-End Assistant Manager with Thrifty Foods. When a Customer Service Supervisor position came available at her local library, she jumped at the opportunity to apply her skills differently. It was a good move for her.

In the ensuing years she has been promoted to Head of Branch Operations and Customer Service and then to the Manager of Operations. She is now responsible for a large scope of responsibilities that include effective customer service delivery across all departments, promotion and retailing, facility oversight, employee engagement, circulation, cash handling, and implementing new systems for retail and circulation. It is easy to see why her previous customer service and people-oversight expertise was recognized when Monique made the decision to apply to the library. It has and continues to be a great career for her. She loves her work, and it shows!
