Maureen Spielman:I'm your host, Maureen Spielman. And I'm so excited to be with
Maureen Spielman:Christina Glickman, today, I met Christina years ago, as we were,
Maureen Spielman:I was starting a business, she was already an entrepreneur, and
Maureen Spielman:she guided and mentored me. But, Christina, I think you so
Maureen Spielman:succinctly, in your sort of like tagline, under your signature,
Maureen Spielman:kind of say what you do, and I'm just gonna read it. You have
Maureen Spielman:mother, TEDx, speaker, author, podcaster, and you're the
Maureen Spielman:founder of extra love army. So I'm just gonna, I just wanted to
Maureen Spielman:share that with our audience, because it was just so simple,
Maureen Spielman:the way you have it written out. And I want to touch upon all
Maureen Spielman:those things today. And I think our conversation is going to go
Maureen Spielman:a lot of places, when I think of you, I think of a woman who is
Maureen Spielman:an absolute 1,000% champion of other women, you live life,
Maureen Spielman:unabashedly as yourself, you show up in such a real way, with
Maureen Spielman:people that I think it creates a safety and really sacred space
Maureen Spielman:for them. So those are just just some beginning, introduction
Maureen Spielman:points I want to make for you. Christina also has a book called
Maureen Spielman:extra, the art of being it's a beautiful, I don't even know how
Maureen Spielman:to explain it. Coffee Table Book, with your fashions, and
Maureen Spielman:your take on life. And again, you've got this way of doing
Maureen Spielman:these things that simple, it's straightforward. And it just, I
Maureen Spielman:just think it speaks to people. You're now I'm having a weekly
Maureen Spielman:podcast called Extra Life and style unscripted. So we're gonna
Maureen Spielman:talk about that, because what you say about living life,
Maureen Spielman:unscripted, might say, at all, not sure. And then you have a
Maureen Spielman:TEDx talk. And those are just some of the things that you've
Maureen Spielman:got going on. But I want to welcome you here today and say,
Maureen Spielman:I'm so grateful to be in your energy and your presence, and
Maureen Spielman:how you doing?
Christina Glickman:Oh, my gosh, thank you for having me. Those
Christina Glickman:are such nice words. I just adore everything you're doing.
Christina Glickman:And thank you for opening the container for so many women to
Christina Glickman:hear about the conversations that you've been having for
Christina Glickman:years. And so for me, just as your friend watching you
Christina Glickman:completely come alive in this new type of business. It's just
Christina Glickman:such a joy. So I'm honored to be here and privileged to be with
Christina Glickman:your community and your sisterhood. And I love
Christina Glickman:everything you're doing. And can I just say, as a fan of yours,
Christina Glickman:like keep doing it? Like keep keep, keep introducing us to
Christina Glickman:people? I was just about to press play on the one that you
Christina Glickman:were talking about yesterday? Because there's so many I can't
Christina Glickman:even pronounce the word, the recording what that word is
Christina Glickman:within a I think the Akashic Record. Yeah, yeah. I don't know
Christina Glickman:what that is. It's like how beautiful that you're
Christina Glickman:introducing us to so many things. So just thank you as a
Christina Glickman:fan of your work. And I am excited about our conversation
Christina Glickman:today. And hopefully, we can, you know, have some insightful
Christina Glickman:chat, hear about all the work that you do.
Maureen Spielman:Thank you so much, Christina. And I think
Maureen Spielman:that's right. I think that for the people that I'm having on
Maureen Spielman:first these concepts, and they're they all are new
Maureen Spielman:learnings to me at some point, too. So you know, we're all
Maureen Spielman:overlapping and layering on what we know. And it's amazing. You
Maureen Spielman:just said something about, I don't know how you just said it,
Maureen Spielman:but it was like a new way of doing business or this new way
Maureen Spielman:of entrepreneurship here. Why don't we start
Christina Glickman:there? Sure. I mean, absolutely. And I think
Christina Glickman:it's because as of late, I really talked about my life and
Christina Glickman:for others as us being life entrepreneurs, meaning that
Christina Glickman:we're equally ambitious professionally as we are
Christina Glickman:personally. And so I think If you have a sense of curiosity
Christina Glickman:and wonder, and always knowing that the person you're talking
Christina Glickman:to has something to teach you, and just sort of being open to
Christina Glickman:that presence, for me is how a new kind of entrepreneurship was
Christina Glickman:born. Because I think before, for me, it was always about the
Christina Glickman:chase and the hustle and the accolades, and the success and
Christina Glickman:the productivity and all the things that programmed me that I
Christina Glickman:identified with that made me feel worthwhile and valuable.
Christina Glickman:And it's taken me years to sort of shed that skin to understand
Christina Glickman:that all of those sort of mechanics and pieces of it
Christina Glickman:really don't make my identity and, and that it takes a lot of
Christina Glickman:work. I'm still working on it, I think I'll be working on it
Christina Glickman:forever. But I think the moment that we released some of those
Christina Glickman:badges, if you will, then we are able to become entrepreneurs of
Christina Glickman:our own passion and joy. And because again, we all know that
Christina Glickman:operating with anxiety and fear is exhausting. And it's the same
Christina Glickman:that holds true for operating without our authentic self.
Christina Glickman:Because, you know, if I come on to this podcast, and I think,
Christina Glickman:oh, my gosh, I want to be as great as Marine, I'm going to
Christina Glickman:fail already, because I'm not you. And instead if I can come
Christina Glickman:on and say, I'm just bringing my whole self and my intention is
Christina Glickman:pure, and I hope that something I say lands on someone to has to
Christina Glickman:be enough.
Maureen Spielman:Oh, I love that. Yes, yes. And our pieces
Maureen Spielman:come together, and they complement one another. Yeah. I
Maureen Spielman:like what you said about this concept. I have not heard that
Maureen Spielman:of life entrepreneur. Because when I started, I said, the
Maureen Spielman:first thing you say, in that tagline is Mother, you know, so
Maureen Spielman:the old version of the entrepreneur would be like,
Maureen Spielman:what's your business? What do you serve to your business? You
Maureen Spielman:know how much money you're gonna make through it. But then you
Maureen Spielman:start with mother. So that to me, says, oh, that's part of
Maureen Spielman:that life entrepreneur, that's it's got its Christina is not
Maureen Spielman:just not only the extra love army, she's much bigger than
Maureen Spielman:that.
Christina Glickman:And I used to, I used to fight against so
Christina Glickman:many. And I think a lot of a lot of the people listening will
Christina Glickman:understand. I used to fight against so many of those badges
Christina Glickman:because they did give me a comfort of who I was right. So
Christina Glickman:so you know, if I'm not a mother, what am I if I'm not a
Christina Glickman:working woman or an entrepreneur, what am I? And
Christina Glickman:I've realized, and I'm sure you have to that, you know, we're
Christina Glickman:many things right, were a bunch of hands. And that's a beautiful
Christina Glickman:thing. And as I sort of learned the power of reflection, I'm
Christina Glickman:understanding why I've done certain things in my life. And I
Christina Glickman:will never think any step is a mistake or a regret. I think
Christina Glickman:it's all about the journey about who we are. But even when I look
Christina Glickman:back in the past couple years of my life, I think there's certain
Christina Glickman:moves I made because my ego needed them, or I needed the
Christina Glickman:credibility or validity to feel like I was important enough. And
Christina Glickman:so I feel like the older I get, and the more work I do, the more
Christina Glickman:I also realize that the here and now in the moment I'm in and the
Christina Glickman:work I'm doing like, again, it's exactly where I'm supposed to be
Christina Glickman:and the universe isn't gonna miss me. And I just am very,
Christina Glickman:very aware that the only energy that I want to chase is peace. I
Christina Glickman:don't want to chase anything else, because I did it for so
Christina Glickman:many years. Right. And I also don't judge anyone that's in
Christina Glickman:that moment of, of hustle or energy because it gets you to
Christina Glickman:where you are. And hopefully, if we talked in five more years,
Christina Glickman:I'd be like, I don't even know who that person was, you know,
Christina Glickman:in the greenery coat. Because I hope that we're always, you
Christina Glickman:know, evolving and changing in that way.
Maureen Spielman:I love that. And I think that that we can see
Maureen Spielman:at the versions of the woman, the human that we were before we
Maureen Spielman:see it in one another. Yeah. So I think as we kind of settle
Maureen Spielman:into this new way of being with women, look where this group is,
Maureen Spielman:my listeners are a lot of women identified. And I think that
Maureen Spielman:we're settling into this newer way of being where it's like,
Maureen Spielman:okay, we can we can put the hustle down. We can't and it's
Maureen Spielman:instilled, there's a lot on the outer, that's telling us we need
Maureen Spielman:to we need to chase it, we need to go for it. And it's up to us
Maureen Spielman:to make that decision. But I think like sitting in these
Maureen Spielman:circles sitting in these conversations where we're like,
Maureen Spielman:No, I see you. I've been there. Even if I haven't been there,
Maureen Spielman:I'm here for you. I'm to witness you to see your healing to see
Maureen Spielman:your growth and your transformation.
Christina Glickman:I mean, and I think that that's what you hit
Christina Glickman:upon, which is that I don't think anything's ever going to
Christina Glickman:trump that power of human connection. And so by you
Christina Glickman:opening up the container for all of us to have a discussion what
Christina Glickman:it's what it's saying is the age old. I see you, I hear you, I
Christina Glickman:validate you, I've been there, you've been there. So I think
Christina Glickman:you're just kind of giving voice to the fact that you're not
Christina Glickman:alone. And we are all trying to do something with parenting or
Christina Glickman:something with an illness or something. It doesn't matter.
Christina Glickman:But I think that the power of storytelling is so extreme and
Christina Glickman:I, you know, as I've sort of thought about for myself, you
Christina Glickman:know, I'll ask myself often like, Well, what do you do? And
Christina Glickman:who are you? And what are you doing. And I think for me, it
Christina Glickman:will always be that thread of, through the through storytelling
Christina Glickman:of my own and other women, and especially women, I feel that it
Christina Glickman:ultimately transformed somebody into thinking or being or doing
Christina Glickman:differently. And, and whether or not somebody is in a position
Christina Glickman:where they hear a story, and they want to do something
Christina Glickman:different with their lives, or just makes them feel better. I
Christina Glickman:also feel like we come in and out of when we're ready to hear
Christina Glickman:a story. So that's why you know, you and I talking about whatever
Christina Glickman:if the same topic is confidence, or whatever it might be, we need
Christina Glickman:you. And that's why there's always room for everyone to open
Christina Glickman:the circle, because that is why I love to champion, especially
Christina Glickman:women so much is because everyone has something to share,
Christina Glickman:if you're willing to share it. And so, the idea being if I tell
Christina Glickman:you a story, or I tell you somebody else's, you're probably
Christina Glickman:gonna see something of yourself in it. And it's gonna make you
Christina Glickman:feel better. Yeah. And isn't that what we're just trying to
Christina Glickman:do every day? It's kind of simple, but it's also really
Christina Glickman:hard.
Maureen Spielman:Absolutely, yeah. And it reminds me of just
Maureen Spielman:re listening to your, your TED talk, I'm just gonna go there
Maureen Spielman:for a moment. Because that that started out with storytelling.
Maureen Spielman:Yeah, and I know, that's something that you greatly
Maureen Spielman:prepared for, and put so much love and energy to, and I just
Maureen Spielman:gonna say just as a little side, that your message of extra and
Maureen Spielman:extra love is so felt, and so needed. And that delivery of
Maureen Spielman:love, and it was no accident that I'm on my way to school
Maureen Spielman:today, dropping my son, the car in front of me had two stickers
Maureen Spielman:that said, Love on this bumper today. But tell our audience
Maureen Spielman:about how did this TEDx talk about? What was that topic you
Maureen Spielman:chose?
Christina Glickman:Sure. And I love to talk about Ted. But it's
Christina Glickman:funny, I like to talk about Ted about the journey of it. And so
Christina Glickman:I feel like insert yourself into the story. Forget about Ted,
Christina Glickman:like, who cares if you want to do something like that great. If
Christina Glickman:you don't, who cares? The idea is just about, I truly became
Christina Glickman:somebody else through the process. And the end of the
Christina Glickman:result, for me was a feeling of that there was no place I don't
Christina Glickman:belong. And I couldn't, it has nothing to do with the
Christina Glickman:accomplishment of a TED Talk. It has everything to do with the
Christina Glickman:moment that I said, I think I want to do this. And so to kind
Christina Glickman:of like reverse a little bit, you know, I had about five years
Christina Glickman:ago decided that I needed more creativity in my life. And, and
Christina Glickman:I knew there's something more I wanted to do is I think a lot of
Christina Glickman:women just always like there's something else for me to do. And
Christina Glickman:again, to be clear, you don't have to, like start a business
Christina Glickman:or do something wild. But there's usually an ache of
Christina Glickman:something else that like, you know, what I was meant to do a
Christina Glickman:little bit more here than maybe parenting or we're not quite as
Christina Glickman:fulfilled as we'd like to be. And so for me, it was through
Christina Glickman:the filter of creativity. And out of that became the book and
Christina Glickman:a few things well cut to, I felt that I had a message burning
Christina Glickman:inside of me that I ultimately wanted women to sort of stand up
Christina Glickman:and understand that they have more to give if they're willing
Christina Glickman:to do it. And because we were in this pandemic world, the TED
Christina Glickman:talk is about women reclaiming their voices, and finding their
Christina Glickman:identity in the pandemic, because I think we've all seen
Christina Glickman:the articles that there's been this rally cry for women that we
Christina Glickman:are the ones that have suffered greatly during the pandemic. And
Christina Glickman:you know, you've got millions of women that left the workforce
Christina Glickman:and never came back. And I don't want to get into that rabbit
Christina Glickman:hole. But the reality is that you are then taking out of the
Christina Glickman:equation of our society, incredible minds, women that
Christina Glickman:were at tables that are no longer there, whether it's in
Christina Glickman:innovations or so. So we all took a step back. So the idea of
Christina Glickman:the talk was to just tap you on the shoulder and be like, hey,
Christina Glickman:like, I see you too. And it's not over. And by the way, all
Christina Glickman:those women that got us here aren't going to be too pleased
Christina Glickman:if the rest of us don't keep going. Right. Right. And so that
Christina Glickman:was the the hope of that talk. But the real journey of that
Christina Glickman:was, I think, and just from my personal standpoint, that
Christina Glickman:because I was on this sort of career path of being a speaker.
Christina Glickman:I felt like I needed TED to feel important. I felt like I needed
Christina Glickman:to say I'm a TEDx speaker. That was my original ego driven goal
Christina Glickman:of it. And I knew how hard it was to achieve and I wanted that
Christina Glickman:really bad. And so when I for me, I had to go through this
Christina Glickman:interview process and that was all difficult. But the funny
Christina Glickman:part is by the time I got to the very end of that red.it was no
Christina Glickman:longer even about that Tada moment anymore. It was all about
Christina Glickman:the fact that it was so hard for me. I wanted to give 1000 times,
Christina Glickman:I was like, why am I doing this, all those things and, you know,
Christina Glickman:the ripple effect of my children being able to see me putting
Christina Glickman:myself out there. And, you know, if you've talked to people that
Christina Glickman:have done Ted it, for some reason, even as somebody that's
Christina Glickman:a speaker, it is the most vulnerable thing you can do,
Christina Glickman:because you're up there without a piece of paper in hand, and
Christina Glickman:it's just you. And it was different because it's your
Christina Glickman:story. And there's just something different about it.
Christina Glickman:But but to kind of get back to your question a little bit. I
Christina Glickman:think the biggest thing i'd love people to take away from Ted is,
Christina Glickman:if you want something, try to go for it, whatever it is. And in,
Christina Glickman:it's not actually about getting it. It's about just saying yes
Christina Glickman:to yourself, and I share with my community along the way, how
Christina Glickman:difficult it was to go through that process. And I would get
Christina Glickman:messages from people saying, you know, it's so great to see you
Christina Glickman:put yourself out there, maybe now I'll go try to get that
Christina Glickman:position at XYZ. So, again, it's the story of when we share one
Christina Glickman:another, that makes me say, you can do it. Well, I can do it,
Christina Glickman:too.
Maureen Spielman:Yeah. And I think a lot of people saying
Maureen Spielman:that, you know, you'll always hear that. If I can do it. You
Maureen Spielman:can do Yeah, yeah, I think like, yeah, right. We it seems so easy
Maureen Spielman:to you, right? Of course that was, but you're saying no, the
Maureen Spielman:process was actually, it was pretty intense. No,
Christina Glickman:I mean, it was awful. It was awful. And,
Christina Glickman:and I mean, I was like praying for COVID to hit so that it
Christina Glickman:would be shut down. Like that's how much I didn't want to do it
Christina Glickman:anymore. And I and nothing that good comes that easy, right?
Christina Glickman:Even when you think it is. And the other thing that I also
Christina Glickman:wanted to just have other people feel is that everything's
Christina Glickman:available to you? Yes. So if you don't think it is, I'm sorry,
Christina Glickman:but it's an excuse. Because if you want it, you're gonna get
Christina Glickman:it, and you're gonna do it. And so you're hiding behind it. And
Christina Glickman:whatever the reality is, and so making movement towards whatever
Christina Glickman:that goal is, because that is for me, I think the thing that
Christina Glickman:makes me craziest is that, you know, we have one life here,
Christina Glickman:period. And are you creating life? Or are you letting life
Christina Glickman:create you? And I don't want to go through the motions. I don't
Christina Glickman:want to just wake up in five years and say, Well, what just
Christina Glickman:happened? Yes.
Maureen Spielman:And five years went by, I had seen a quote the
Maureen Spielman:other day, I'm not going to get it right. But it was on social
Maureen Spielman:media. And someone said, like, make sure you're in the rooms,
Maureen Spielman:with the people having the conversations that bring you
Maureen Spielman:higher, and that's the work you're doing. And I even think
Maureen Spielman:like a conversation like this, is that so? Oh, yes, give the
Maureen Spielman:permission that sometimes we don't know we can give
Maureen Spielman:ourselves. Yeah, and I think
Christina Glickman:it also, it also starts with, for me getting
Christina Glickman:very real in the past few years. And I know this will resonate
Christina Glickman:with you about protecting my energy. And I didn't realize
Christina Glickman:that commodity I was giving away so freely. And so I started to
Christina Glickman:do this thing every week, which I do every Sunday called the IQ
Christina Glickman:test. And I have a paper calendar because I'm like a
Christina Glickman:dinosaur and archaic and I like to see things written out. And I
Christina Glickman:sit there and I look at my week and I say what are the things
Christina Glickman:that make my stomach hurt? Like, what is on my calendar that I
Christina Glickman:don't want to do? Now again, it's life. I know, we have
Christina Glickman:things we don't want to do. But in general, am I saying yes to a
Christina Glickman:coffee that doesn't like fill my soul? Because I'm just sitting
Christina Glickman:there asking the questions and not receiving anything back? Am
Christina Glickman:I Am I saying yes to volunteering, because I don't
Christina Glickman:want somebody to think I'm not a nice person. Am I? What am I
Christina Glickman:doing in my life that is getting me further away from how I want
Christina Glickman:to feel at the end of the day, because that's how I've
Christina Glickman:transferred my brain like it's no longer what did I get done
Christina Glickman:today? Or how productive I was. It's like I don't want to feel
Christina Glickman:at the end of the day. And for me, I always want to feel, first
Christina Glickman:of all that the people that I love know that I love them. Like
Christina Glickman:that's never as generic as it is. It's never gonna go away.
Christina Glickman:Some days. I'm not so good at it. Some days I'm good at you
Christina Glickman:know, so it's a balance, but going through that now has
Christina Glickman:changed my life dramatically. Because when I look at my week
Christina Glickman:ahead, like, again, not to sound funny. I adore you. I love the
Christina Glickman:work you're doing I get to be on your podcast, which is an honor
Christina Glickman:and privilege for me. I wouldn't have said yes. If I didn't feel
Christina Glickman:that. Yeah. Whereas before, I would just say yes, yes, yes,
Christina Glickman:yes. Yes. Yes. Now, it's like, no, I look forward to it. I
Christina Glickman:can't wait to spend time with you. And so I always say now
Christina Glickman:that if I'm with you, you know, I really want to be there.
Christina Glickman:Right? Yeah, no question.
Maureen Spielman:I love I love the practice. I similarly, I
Maureen Spielman:have been on that journey. And man, I just say it's not always
Maureen Spielman:easy to to guard your time as that resource. Your energy is
Maureen Spielman:that resource and I think is we are stepping into more and more
Maureen Spielman:worthiness and then we'll see a rise in that as well. That's
Maureen Spielman:been my experience and I was always the classic over giver
Maureen Spielman:and I know so many listening. Oh identify It's like,
Christina Glickman:it's like in our DNA. And, and the reality
Christina Glickman:is, though, if you if you stop for a moment and you say to
Christina Glickman:yourself, one, who am I surrounding myself with? And
Christina Glickman:where? And are they draining my energy? Or are they adding value
Christina Glickman:to it? Or this is not a selfish thing? Doesn't mean you can't be
Christina Glickman:there for a friend and listen for an hour. It has nothing to
Christina Glickman:do with you. It's not about that it's about we're probably
Christina Glickman:putting it in the wrong places. Yes. And then ask yourself why,
Christina Glickman:okay, because I want to be liked, or I want to, and again,
Christina Glickman:there's no, there's no shame here, there's no, we're not
Christina Glickman:doing anything wrong. But there's also this idea,
Christina Glickman:especially as women that we need to fill the space, like, if you
Christina Glickman:had a day where you weren't running around, you'd think
Christina Glickman:you're gonna fill it. But the reality is that you also don't
Christina Glickman:have to explain your time away, like your times your time. So it
Christina Glickman:doesn't have to, you don't have to deserve an earn it like, oh,
Christina Glickman:my gosh, I'm gonna get a massage tomorrow, because I worked so
Christina Glickman:hard last week, and I don't know, like, I'm loving of this
Christina Glickman:as it is, for me, that's all just a retraining. I don't It's
Christina Glickman:not how I operate. I, I sort of, I always wanted to be that I
Christina Glickman:like I said in my TED talk, the Real Life series, I wanted you
Christina Glickman:to know that I was valuable and important and available. And
Christina Glickman:that's how I pride. I used to pride myself, and I want you to
Christina Glickman:think that I am so busy, and I've got so much going on. And I
Christina Glickman:have got that gave me worse. And so now when people sometimes
Christina Glickman:leave me a message and say, Oh, I know you're so busy. I'm like,
Christina Glickman:No, I'm actually not so busy. I'm doing what I love my time
Christina Glickman:now I've got a lot of things going on. But they're all things
Christina Glickman:I love to do. It's beautiful. And again, I check myself
Christina Glickman:though, when I find myself doing the other things. I always say,
Christina Glickman:Well, why are you doing it, Christina? Okay, I'm doing it
Christina Glickman:because I want to feel important. I'm doing it because
Christina Glickman:I want to be liked. And again, no shame, but just a wheel with
Christina Glickman:yourself. Yeah. And while you're doing it,
Maureen Spielman:and like you're saying those things are
Maureen Spielman:ingrained. And sometimes we're just doing them by default. So
Maureen Spielman:taking that middle step of the why is such a powerful question
Maureen Spielman:and and being so intentional. On a Sunday with your calendar.
Maureen Spielman:Yeah. Because then I know, I'm guessing that there's more inner
Maureen Spielman:peace. And then there's more almost like, almost like clean
Maureen Spielman:energy to give people you want, including your children and your
Maureen Spielman:husband, and
Christina Glickman:there's no dread heaven, we spent enough
Christina Glickman:time dreading a week. Yeah, like it's funny when when, again, I
Christina Glickman:don't mean this. To make anyone feel bad, but when when people
Christina Glickman:talk about like, you know, I got a message from a friend the
Christina Glickman:other day saying, Oh, my gosh, I can't wait for the weekend, you
Christina Glickman:know, the only happy two days of my week, right? I was like, Oh,
Christina Glickman:yeah. And I understand why she got I know, I understand all the
Christina Glickman:things she has going on. So it's all valid, but it's like, oh, my
Christina Glickman:gosh, I don't want to wish my days away. Yeah. And again,
Christina Glickman:don't get me wrong, I get life as hard. I don't like sit on a
Christina Glickman:rainbow. But in general, I want to have the agency to choose
Christina Glickman:where I'm putting my time. And and so if in fact, you're in
Christina Glickman:that moment of time, I guess I would love for everyone to say
Christina Glickman:how do I get a little bit closer to a little bit more peace?
Christina Glickman:Because now I don't look at my week and in general dread
Christina Glickman:anything or wish it away, or I can't wait to get to Friday. And
Christina Glickman:of course I projects and things that are stressful. But I mean,
Christina Glickman:in general, there's not like, Oh, I gotta do this. And I got
Christina Glickman:to do that. I don't have that feeling anymore. And I did for
Christina Glickman:years. Absolute years. Yes,
Maureen Spielman:I know. And the transformation is such a
Maureen Spielman:beautiful thing to see. And when you're just saying, like,
Maureen Spielman:listen, I know, and I'm not sitting on a rainbow, because I
Maureen Spielman:know you've gone through challenges, but it's being able
Maureen Spielman:to sit in those. Yeah. And, and sit really sit and ponder and
Maureen Spielman:ask the questions of why is this here for me? This is has to be
Maureen Spielman:something that's contributing to my greater growth, as painful as
Maureen Spielman:it is. And it's just like the I think you use the word
Maureen Spielman:curiosity, or just the willingness, the curiosity to
Maureen Spielman:say, Why is this here? For me? It's here for my growth and
Maureen Spielman:transformation. Yeah.
Christina Glickman:Also, I also think, especially as women that
Christina Glickman:sometimes we need to be reminded, and sometimes it's our
Christina Glickman:friends that remind us, you have a choice. Right, like we're on
Christina Glickman:that wheel, and we're doing doing and I mean, it sounds so
Christina Glickman:silly, but, you know, my husband's on a big travel for
Christina Glickman:for work. And I had mentioned to my daughter that she you know,
Christina Glickman:couldn't go to this practice that was important. And I would
Christina Glickman:never have done that before because I didn't think there was
Christina Glickman:a choice. I wouldn't want to upset her. I want to be able to
Christina Glickman:her to do things but it actually was not working for our family
Christina Glickman:for like 10 reasons. And so I just talked her about and it was
Christina Glickman:fine. But I don't think before I would have thought I would have
Christina Glickman:choice. I would have made myself crazy. I would have done all
Christina Glickman:these crazy things all for this thing. And I stopped myself
Christina Glickman:often and I say you have a choice. You might not like the
Christina Glickman:consequences of it or but you have a choice that happening to
Christina Glickman:me. I I'm creating it.
Maureen Spielman:Yes, I think that that is the really clear,
Maureen Spielman:smaller example of rewriting the story than you used to be in and
Maureen Spielman:I'm, I'm with you, because I'm still learning. My kids are
Maureen Spielman:older. They're 22. And I'm, I'm learning, communication. I'm
Maureen Spielman:learning boundaries. I'm learning, investing in my own
Maureen Spielman:energy. I'm learning worthiness like that's why I will always
Maureen Spielman:say to anyone listening, let's hold hands and go through this
Maureen Spielman:together, because we're all human. We're all doing the work.
Maureen Spielman:And, and we're all figured out. Yeah, we're at different places,
Maureen Spielman:but we're not. Right.
Unknown:I couldn't agree with you more.
Maureen Spielman:Yeah. So I love that because that's
Maureen Spielman:actually, it's so seemingly, a small choice you made? Yeah, but
Maureen Spielman:it's not. It's not
Christina Glickman:done online. But it's a bigger thing, which
Christina Glickman:is, oh, my gosh, she's a mother, am I not doing all the things I
Christina Glickman:could be doing for my it unlocks all these crazy things, which is
Christina Glickman:just ridiculous. But again, I think the ripple effect is
Christina Glickman:showing if you have children, showing them that how do I think
Christina Glickman:operate, operate with this authenticity, and a greater good
Christina Glickman:and how it impacts other people. Like, there's just so much other
Christina Glickman:beauty to it than being like a martyr. I got to do all these
Christina Glickman:things, like and I did that for years, like I played that
Christina Glickman:Cinderella card. I don't think it was on purpose. But that's
Christina Glickman:just what I did. Now I'm actually embarrassed by an
Christina Glickman:exhaustion, meaning that's my fault for getting there. Like,
Christina Glickman:get it in check. And so I'm not like a little bit if things
Christina Glickman:aren't going well in that way. And please, no, I don't mean
Christina Glickman:illnesses and things that are very, very traumatic. I mean, in
Christina Glickman:everyday life, it's like, get it, you know, clean up your side
Christina Glickman:of the street, get it in check here. And that's a big thing.
Christina Glickman:And I will just always say, just do one tiny thing. Does that
Christina Glickman:mean? Maybe you're gonna take shower today? Does that mean?
Christina Glickman:Maybe you're gonna make an extra cup of coffee for yourself? Does
Christina Glickman:it mean you might leave a note for your friend? Because you've
Christina Glickman:been thinking about them? Like, I'm not talking big and
Christina Glickman:dramatic? I'm talking about the smaller things because today's
Christina Glickman:it? Like, there's kind of no waiting. There's no like Teddy
Christina Glickman:Bear parade, magical unicorn rain outside my house like
Christina Glickman:today, is it? Like we're here?
Maureen Spielman:Yeah, just take the day, what is going to
Maureen Spielman:be my choices will be how I play out today. But I love that
Maureen Spielman:because you know, you just shared a lot. And you are your
Maureen Spielman:kids can look at you as a woman who's invested in her own
Maureen Spielman:growth. I mean, what could even be more beautiful. But also back
Maureen Spielman:to your other point? Your because some things are still
Maureen Spielman:doing right? You're, you're building your extra love army,
Maureen Spielman:you're recording your podcast, doing your business coaching,
Maureen Spielman:but the restoration, the restoration is like the piece
Maureen Spielman:that we've been missing for a long time. And
Christina Glickman:not apologizing for it. And that and
Christina Glickman:that's, you know, that's in my house. We all have to work on it
Christina Glickman:constantly. Because I've I've sadly trained my children to be
Christina Glickman:that way. Oh, mama, I'm so sorry. For an eye. Yeah, hey,
Christina Glickman:when we stop it, and I, I just channeled over instead to say
Christina Glickman:thank you for waiting, don't apologize. They just say thank
Christina Glickman:you for waiting, like, try to flip it. And I catch myself too.
Christina Glickman:But you know, this these are, you know, years and years and
Christina Glickman:years of systemic issues that we all carry. And I think it just
Christina Glickman:starts though, in these conversations in our own homes,
Christina Glickman:slowly as we move through our day. And I think that's how we
Christina Glickman:impact one another. If it gets bigger than that, then I feel
Christina Glickman:like I don't even have a role because I can't change anything.
Maureen Spielman:Yeah, but yeah, I love that. Because also,
Maureen Spielman:you know, talk about what you've created around the extra love
Maureen Spielman:arm me because these kinds of conversations and people's real
Maureen Spielman:experiences, I'm guessing really get to be shared there. And it's
Maureen Spielman:just like that meeting, meeting you where you're at? Yeah,
Christina Glickman:it is. And I love that because I always say,
Christina Glickman:you know, meet me where I'm at, not where you want me to be. And
Christina Glickman:the extra love army was created during the pandemic. And again,
Christina Glickman:I always go backwards. I didn't have this grand plan. But it was
Christina Glickman:during the pandemic where I felt like women were missing
Christina Glickman:conversation. And so I opened the doors and said, This is
Christina Glickman:going to be a safe space for women to share about what's
Christina Glickman:happening in their everyday lives and truly just their own
Christina Glickman:kind of like a you know, their own hype woman squad, or, or
Christina Glickman:whatever it might be, whether it was about entrepreneurship or
Christina Glickman:parenting or motherhood, or, you know, anything and everything.
Christina Glickman:And so each month we have a theme, whatever it might be, I
Christina Glickman:don't know what this month's theme. I think this one month's
Christina Glickman:theme is about like, what are you calling in? And so it's just
Christina Glickman:a constant conversation that I think women just want to share
Christina Glickman:with one another in a safe space about whatever it is that
Christina Glickman:they're trying to do. Or maybe they're walking through grief.
Christina Glickman:Or maybe they are having a tough time in their relationship.
Christina Glickman:Because it's all connected. It's your sisterhood. It's what
Christina Glickman:you're doing here. And the more and more than we create these
Christina Glickman:containers for all of us, that's a beautiful gift. And people
Christina Glickman:find their space. And we need more and more. Right?
Maureen Spielman:We do. I've heard so many people say there
Maureen Spielman:are 7 billion people on the planet. Why? Right? Yeah, mind
Maureen Spielman:blowing. So the conversations are so key and crucial. And I
Maureen Spielman:think redefining the conversations that we're having,
Maureen Spielman:and, and really, I think a lot of time, when you get in these
Maureen Spielman:spaces, the conversation can go deep, real fast. And, and
Maureen Spielman:people, people are craving it, I love that.
Christina Glickman:And the other thing, just to just to
Christina Glickman:your audience that I want to remind anybody of whatever
Christina Glickman:they're doing, whether it's interior design, or whatever it
Christina Glickman:might be like we need you. And so I always say like I'm a dime
Christina Glickman:a dozen the things I've been talking about for years now. I
Christina Glickman:mean, I'm just saying I this is no rocket science here. But what
Christina Glickman:is different is me, what's different is you what's
Christina Glickman:different is anybody bringing themselves to the table, and we
Christina Glickman:need them. And so just a reminder, like, you know,
Christina Glickman:because again, some of the clients that I work with, like,
Christina Glickman:Oh, should I do a podcast? Everybody has a podcast, I do a
Christina Glickman:book everybody, you know, people have books. It's always like,
Christina Glickman:you have to strip all that away and stay in your own lane and
Christina Glickman:say, What is your intention and the message that you're hoping
Christina Glickman:to put out into the world? And is that right for you?
Christina Glickman:Otherwise, we we've stopped herself before we got off the
Christina Glickman:block? Yeah, because it right. And that's a very common thing
Christina Glickman:to do. And so again, I just want to say how proud I am of you of
Christina Glickman:stepping into this work and doing the things that we all
Christina Glickman:need? Because we need everybody?
Maureen Spielman:Yeah. Yeah. I love that. I and I think that to
Maureen Spielman:your point, everyone's voice is needed. And our voices come from
Maureen Spielman:our life experiences. Yeah. And everyone's life experience is
Maureen Spielman:different, we might have commonalities that we can share.
Maureen Spielman:Yeah, we're so different. And we have different vibrations. And
Maureen Spielman:yes, different energies will be attracted. But you know, when
Maureen Spielman:you were saying something earlier about? Well, even your
Maureen Spielman:your business coaching clients is like, Oh, here's this like a
Maureen Spielman:array of things you can do. But I found, listen to your
Maureen Spielman:intuition. Listen to that. Some people call it the small still
Maureen Spielman:voice sometimes I think it's the big loud voice. Sure, it will
Maureen Spielman:lead you, it will lead you and it's like, which one are you
Maureen Spielman:feeling most drawn to? And I was something you said earlier
Maureen Spielman:about? You know, you could not not do this the work that you
Maureen Spielman:stepped into. And even though it may even the TED Talk, even
Maureen Spielman:though it was overwhelming, something was pulling you for
Maureen Spielman:right. I always think of that as the universe. It's like, calm,
Maureen Spielman:calm.
Christina Glickman:and I are having a stage right now of
Christina Glickman:really practicing listening to what the universe is inviting
Christina Glickman:in, get trying to get trying to get better at that. But I think
Christina Glickman:you're right. And the other question I would ask yourself in
Christina Glickman:general is like, is it harder not to do something than to do
Christina Glickman:it? Because life's gonna march on anyways? Yeah, so a lot of
Christina Glickman:times, again, resistance, we have resistance to most
Christina Glickman:everything and a lot of ways. But that resistance to me is the
Christina Glickman:invitation to do it. And, and so that's what I try to listen to.
Christina Glickman:And if I if it's too big, and too, I can't get my head around
Christina Glickman:it. I always say what's the next next best thing I can do to get
Christina Glickman:closer to it? I find myself often not knowing how to do it.
Christina Glickman:Like in general, I'm like, Well, that sounds great. But I don't I
Christina Glickman:do that like all the time. And so like, what's the first thing
Christina Glickman:which is usually like a Google because I really don't know how
Christina Glickman:to do a lot of things. And but again, movement is hope. Right?
Christina Glickman:So just that little movement is is what makes us like have a
Christina Glickman:more skipping our step. We actually want to make dinner and
Christina Glickman:go on with our day, because you're pouring into yourself.
Christina Glickman:And so many of us don't, because we either don't know what to do,
Christina Glickman:or maybe we don't really feel that we deserve that or, and to
Christina Glickman:me, that's just so sad. Like I want every woman to feel a sense
Christina Glickman:of intention. Absolutely, in some way.
Maureen Spielman:And that's I think that that's I don't know
Maureen Spielman:how you got through it when you were preparing for the TED Talk.
Maureen Spielman:And it was so challenging for you. But the support and the
Maureen Spielman:groups and the conversations and you're safe people. Yeah,
Maureen Spielman:they're golden to getting where we need to take the one step
Maureen Spielman:after the other and that the steps that we take, they're
Maureen Spielman:invisible to us sometimes. So like you're saying, you know, do
Maureen Spielman:the self care, do the you know, take care of the little steps.
Maureen Spielman:Even if it's twice a week, not once a day, no,
Christina Glickman:sure. Yeah, I mean, we're not we're not
Christina Glickman:meant to do this alone, that's for sure. And if you are, that's
Christina Glickman:super hard. And, you know, I think the other thing is that
Christina Glickman:there is an invisible transformation that happens that
Christina Glickman:most of the time we don't see until much further down the
Christina Glickman:road. And at the same time, that's where that universe comes
Christina Glickman:in for me of saying, I need to trust that my success will be
Christina Glickman:inevitable, I need to trust that, that what is meant for me
Christina Glickman:is where I am headed. There's just a lot of trust. And I
Christina Glickman:always say, the opposite of it really sucks. So let's blow
Christina Glickman:sunshine up my own self here. I'd rather live in there. I
Christina Glickman:mean, what's the opposite saying, Oh, that is not meant
Christina Glickman:for me. It's gonna totally suck. I really think that it's gonna
Christina Glickman:be okay. I mean, I don't know, there's there's just for me, I
Christina Glickman:can't operate in a different energy. That makes me not want
Christina Glickman:to do anything. Yeah. Yeah. And, and I know why we a lot of us
Christina Glickman:feel that way. But it's doing that work to have that trust, I
Christina Glickman:guess I say universe, because that's for me spiritually where
Christina Glickman:I go, but I don't know, I but also, maybe you can give me some
Christina Glickman:advice. I've also been walking around like looking for signs,
Christina Glickman:I'm laughing at myself, because I don't really know what that
Christina Glickman:means. But I'm always like, give me this time.
Maureen Spielman:And there they are. They just like coming.
Maureen Spielman:They're coming. They're coming. If you listen to Valerie, what's
Maureen Spielman:podcast a couple of weeks ago, they are coming. They're there
Maureen Spielman:for us all the time. And they're there for us when we least
Maureen Spielman:expect it. And I think that it's being able to also decipher the
Maureen Spielman:science and that it's almost like a dream. You know, like
Maureen Spielman:what? Dreams? It's not exactly what it seems like it is right?
Maureen Spielman:Not the literal interpretation. But yeah, I think the more that
Maureen Spielman:I say to the universe, I'm open to the signs I start my day that
Maureen Spielman:way. Yeah. But am I here to know, and I can have a day where
Maureen Spielman:I don't feel like I see any or hear any or whatever it is. But
Maureen Spielman:you might also be receiving it in different ways. So for you,
Maureen Spielman:it might not just be coming through a visual sign that you
Maureen Spielman:see, you know, on the supermarket grounds, you know,
Maureen Spielman:something you just went over? It could be you're hearing it, and
Maureen Spielman:you get your messages that way. So those are signs to I think,
Maureen Spielman:yeah,
Christina Glickman:like that. Well, you know, I will say to
Christina Glickman:that, as I'm sort of, I think like tuning up my spidey senses
Christina Glickman:to the universe. I also feel like I've been practicing a lot
Christina Glickman:of grace when, when I when I don't feel settled are familiar
Christina Glickman:or like it's okay to not be okay, I guess is the thing,
Christina Glickman:meaning. I trust that my flow will come. So if I wake up one
Christina Glickman:day, and I'm not in that energy, which we all know when we're not
Christina Glickman:in that energy. I don't force myself anymore. I just say like,
Christina Glickman:Okay, so today, like, maybe I haven't an off day, or maybe
Christina Glickman:today's not feeling whatever reason, and I just kind of like,
Christina Glickman:let that go with instead, I used to just push, push, push to make
Christina Glickman:myself be something or do something. And now it's like,
Christina Glickman:no, I'm like, not feeling it.
Maureen Spielman:Absolutely. Like, that's why I think that on
Maureen Spielman:the journey, the reminders to each other, not only for the
Maureen Spielman:restoration, but for the self compassion. Yeah, that's a big
Maureen Spielman:one for me, because I had just said it in another recording I
Maureen Spielman:did. But I spent so many years not knowing what I was doing.
Maureen Spielman:And I had, I think I did have this deep yearning in me. But I
Maureen Spielman:was also operating from real survival places within myself.
Maureen Spielman:And feeling such overwhelmed from early mothering feeling
Maureen Spielman:like this, like story, like, I don't know what I meant to be
Maureen Spielman:doing. And it was, oh, it was tough going there for years.
Maureen Spielman:Yeah. You know, and that was, that was layers of myself that
Maureen Spielman:through the work, like I've been able to let go of and, and
Maureen Spielman:really, sort of own you got to Oh, but you also have to have
Maureen Spielman:that compassion, and I, and I really try to turn that on
Maureen Spielman:myself and be like, so for those days you're talking about and
Maureen Spielman:like, just Yeah, yeah, I see you. You need a rest today,
Maureen Spielman:because that could be all the universes. Dominus?
Christina Glickman:Yeah. And I think you said something really
Christina Glickman:important too, which is the idea of like, you know, what's your
Christina Glickman:story? And what are you meant to do and all those things and that
Christina Glickman:those are so hard, and I think sometimes can be a very
Christina Glickman:unmotivated thing. Again, a lot of the women that I work with
Christina Glickman:sometimes say, like, well, I don't even know why I'm meeting
Christina Glickman:with you. I don't know what I want to do. I don't know what
Christina Glickman:I'm doing. And I always say like, we're not trying to figure
Christina Glickman:that out. We're trying to have movement into the next day space
Christina Glickman:thing. It's almost like I always like to say, you know, what's
Christina Glickman:your moment right now, instead of like, what's your story? And
Christina Glickman:what's your that's so big? I can't answer that. I get
Christina Glickman:overwhelmed. When somebody says to me, Well, what do you do? I'm
Christina Glickman:always like, Oh, my God, I get overwhelmed. Right? That's a big
Christina Glickman:question. And I think, again, that's why your podcast and
Christina Glickman:talking about this one sentence will change somebody's
Christina Glickman:narrative. And he heard it from you. And so it just all that
Christina Glickman:it's all it takes, right, those little moments that we hear that
Christina Glickman:go, oh, my gosh, remember that person said that, and for
Christina Glickman:whatever reason that lands on them, didn't land on someone
Christina Glickman:else. But you being vulnerable enough and courageous enough to
Christina Glickman:put yourself out there has opened up a narrative that
Christina Glickman:otherwise wouldn't put a spotlight on a conversation that
Christina Glickman:really deserves APSET publication.
Maureen Spielman:Absolutely. Yeah. And I think that we have
Maureen Spielman:to know that we've all been there because it just reminds
Maureen Spielman:me, if you would have told me even a year ago, your podcast,
Maureen Spielman:I'll say No way. Yeah, indeed, I would say that I believe in
Maureen Spielman:infinite possibilities. But more there were just parts of myself
Maureen Spielman:that I had to get really comfortable with. And the whole
Maureen Spielman:kind of stepping out onto any sort of platform, even something
Maureen Spielman:like social media can feel revealing to ourselves. So have
Maureen Spielman:the conversations in with your safe people in your safe places.
Maureen Spielman:Create the safety within you to know that you're okay. You're
Maureen Spielman:You're perfect as you are. And the world needs you. It at the
Maureen Spielman:planet needs you. Yeah, sure does. Yeah. Well, I love that.
Maureen Spielman:Christina, is there anything else that comes to mind? Before
Maureen Spielman:we wrap up today?
Christina Glickman:No, I feel like we were kind of all over
Christina Glickman:the place. But I love that. And I think if anything for, you
Christina Glickman:know, for your audience, and this, this circle that you have
Christina Glickman:created and are creating, you know, I would just encourage and
Christina Glickman:invite others to bring somebody with you. And it's vulnerable
Christina Glickman:for even people to participate in conversation. And so, you
Christina Glickman:know, look outside yourself, and maybe lend a hand to somebody
Christina Glickman:that might need to be invited into something. Because I think
Christina Glickman:that we all are craving, as you said, these deep connections
Christina Glickman:right now,
Maureen Spielman:I love that too. Because with the deep need
Maureen Spielman:of the world right now, it is the it is the multiplying and
Maureen Spielman:the exponential. And that's I mean, I, I'm gonna say to the
Maureen Spielman:listeners to please, you know, I'm gonna have you share
Maureen Spielman:Christina, but check Christina's work out through her podcast,
Maureen Spielman:through her book through, you know, anywhere you can find her
Maureen Spielman:because I love the podcast and your bite size, it's you taking
Maureen Spielman:on a concept and infusing your experience with it, and then
Maureen Spielman:sharing the wisdom that came from it. And it's, it's really
Maureen Spielman:fun to listen to. And that's where i That's why I'm so
Maureen Spielman:attracted to you too, because you've got the the foundation of
Maureen Spielman:mystical sister hood is joy and healing and community and that
Maureen Spielman:those two things can co occur. I really believe they can. And
Maureen Spielman:that was born out of my health journey. And I'm like, Yes, I
Maureen Spielman:want them both. I want to do the healing work. I was a joy. So
Maureen Spielman:you
Christina Glickman:get to write Yeah, not just but isn't it
Christina Glickman:funny. And the last thing I'll say where you started in your
Christina Glickman:journey, right? And where you thought you were headed, and you
Christina Glickman:were wise enough to expand and grow and be around the right
Christina Glickman:people. And so it's kind of like, Don't ever stop that
Christina Glickman:curiosity, right. Don't ever think that either we can't or
Christina Glickman:right. And again, the only way that we I think have competence
Christina Glickman:to do this when we're surrounding ourselves by people
Christina Glickman:like you appro quite vital. So thank you for that. You do. And
Christina Glickman:thanks for having me today. Yes.
Maureen Spielman:So where can people find you, Christine?
Maureen Spielman:Where can
Christina Glickman:they find me? They I won't go down the
Christina Glickman:some of the places they can't find me these days. But you can
Christina Glickman:find me on Facebook. You can find me on LinkedIn, you can
