I know that connecting with my kids is the most important thing I can do in our relationships. Nothing feels better than when I feel strongly connected with my boys. As my kids get older, and are now in their teens, they want to do less and less with my husband and I so I need to get creative!
I am so excited to speak with my guest, Certified Health Coach, Meryl Hunte who is all about connecting with your kids in the kitchen! I love this idea and it not only brings you and your kids closer; it helps to provide them with real life skills!
In this episode we talk about:
The messages we are sending about the foods we eat and we nourish our bodies
How the kitchen is a safe place for conversations
How cooking together is a great, non threatening, way to connect with a teen
Enticing your kids into the kitchen with all the fun gadgets from shredding, blending, mixing and other fun appliances!
About Merryl Hunter
Meryl Hunte, is the owner of the Connecting Kitchen. She is an entrepreneur, certified health coach, world traveler, self-taught chef, wife, and mom of 3 adult kids. The Connecting Kitchen is all about helping people build healthier bodies and stronger relationships. She says if you want to build a better relationship with someone, try cooking with them!
She realized that cooking was a magical solution when she was looking for a way to connect with one of her sons and get him to eat healthier foods. When they started cooking together, the kitchen quickly became that non-threatening place, with lots of open spaces in the conversation where they could talk about things that mattered. It also became the place where they learned to communicate, work as a team, and where they were not only making meals, but powerful, positive memories that helped build a lasting connection.
Fast forward and she is connecting moms and dads with their kids, families, and couples across the country and around the world. We all speak the language of food. It's a great way to bring people together.
