In this episode, we are talking to girls in middle school, age 10 to 14. Do not underestimate girls at this age! It’s right at this age that girls have the abilities and interests getting ready to launch. In other words, they are already becoming who they want to be! That’s where Illana Raia’s book, website, and mentorship program called Être Girls steps in to share the right resources and mentors to help these girls along their journey.

Normally we are asking our kids WHAT do they want to DO but Être Girls and founder Illana Raia are asking them WHO do they want to BE? Illana talks about how parents can nurture your child’s interests and find mentors to connect with your child. Why? Because it’s this age group are more likely to quit their activities because they are overscheduled, self-critical and often underestimated. Matching girls with professional, successful female leaders is all about inspiring young girls and showing them what’s possible for them and what they can achieve. Besides, these female leaders were once middle schoolers too, and can share how they made it through!

Être Girls believes in educating girls in many areas such as innovation, philanthropy, self-confidence, finances, courage and many more.

About Illana RaiaA former Skadden lawyer and occasional guest lecturer at Columbia, Illana has been busy since 2016 founding Être - a resource and mentorship platform for girls approaching high school. Named a Mogul Influencer in 2017, Illana has appeared in the HuffPost "Talk To Me" video series, participated in the 2018 Balance Project Interviews and the 2019 #WomenWhoRock campaign and has been featured on Cheddar TV and podcasts like The Other 50%, UBS’ Signature Series, Finding Brave and Women To Watch. Her journey from lawyer to founder was profiled in Forbes and her first book - Être: Girls, Who Do You Want To Be? - arrived on Day of the Girl 2019.
