There's A Place In You

There's A Place In You

One of the things that we often do (and something I used to do all the time) - is we mistake our identity, who we think we are, how we see ourselves, and how we relate to the world with what's happened to us; with our origin stories.

We confuse our identity with “our biography” - all those things that have happened to us, especially when we were younger. Sometimes we also even do it with our genetics, where we think because a certain trait runs in the family that they will automatically pass it down to us and we won’t be able to overcome it or survive it.

Today on the Karen Kenney show we’re talking about the stories we write about ourselves that are almost never in our favor. Stories about the places, the circumstances, the environments, that we believe play a role or dictate what is or isn’t possible for us.

We unfortunately often get attached to the identity of our “woundedness”. Using statements like, “I'm a mess, I'm broken, I'm wounded” - as ways to describe ourselves and the cause of what holds us back.

What is wicked helpful to realize and understand is that although we’re having human experiences here, which means there’s probably going to be some bumps along the way - there’s also, as poet John O’Donohue talks about, “There is a place in you where you have never been wounded, where there's still a sureness in you, where there's a seamlessness in you, and where there is a confidence and tranquility in you.”

There is a seamlessness, an unbroken and unwounded space where you remember the truth of yourself as an extension of the Divine and as one of God's kids. It is from this place that our real happiness, health, healing, wholeness, and “holiness” lives and loves.
