Ted Nolan, NHL Coach/Player

Ex-NHL Player and Coach of the Year Ted Nolan talks about starting from a small house of 12 without electricity nor plumbing in Garden River First Nation [“leaving for Kenora was like going to Disneyland”], learning he was drafted by Detroit Red Wings on the radio [“I was worried it was a military draft”], watching & learning from teammates Wayne Gretzky/Pete Mahovlich/Stevie Y/Mario Lemieux/Hanson Brothers, gaining coaching insights from Al Arbour & Phil Jackson, putting Pat LaFontaine and his players’ health FIRST, winning NHL Coach of the Year but finding himself OUT of hockey for the next 10 years [!!!], realizing Latvia was not a hockey team but a country, proudly starting the ‘3 Nolans First Nation Hockey School’ with his two [also ex-NHL] boys, and why you can either try to get there quickly by yourself OR go much further together as a TEAM!”
