The New Leaf project, the world’s first direct cash transfer program and study of its size, helps those who are recently homeless. The results are ground-breaking and are paving the way for a new approach in addressing Canada’s most pressing social issues. Claire Elizabeth Williams is the driving force behind the New Leaf Project and joins me to share why we need to let go of a lot of myths and misconceptions about helping people who are homeless. Over one million women across Canada are self-employed, and during this pandemic, it’s been an ongoing challenge to stay inspired. Enter Vivian Kaye. Melissa Maker, the host of the CleanMySpace YouTube channel, founder of Clean My Space, a housekeeping service based in her native Toronto, Canada, and best selling author of Clean My Space: The Secret to Cleaning Better, Faster and Loving your Home Every Day joins me with tips to keep your space clean without losing your mind. Much has been said about work/life balance during COVID, but the focus is mostly on individual effort, leaving parents (mostly mothers) to feel it is up to them to figure out how to manage the impossible demands of doing their jobs, homeschooling, parenting, and managing the home. Anita Grace, together with her research partner Linda Duxbury, is engaged in an on-going research project about work/family balance during COVID, studying how Gen Xers are managing the competing demands of jobs and parenting. Anita joins me to share some of their findings so far. Finally moving to a new country where you aren’t yet familiar with the language, the customs, or the culture, can be an anxiety inducing experience. Doing all that under the umbrella of a global pandemic, is especially scary. Anila Lee Yuen is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Newcomers and is here today to share some of this biggest challenges covid has presented for new immigrants to Canada.
