Shot 7 Times With A .45 By A Shoplifter. He Tells His Miraculous Story of Survival and Recovery. Retired Jacksonville Police Officer Tell His Heart Pounding and Inspiring Story.
Jared, a retired Police Officer from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, boasts an impressive career. In 2008, Jared Reston faced a life-altering incident. A suspected shoplifter fired upon him, causing severe injuries.
Following the shootout, the wounded police officer's condition was listed as serious. Despite being shot multiple times, including the face, Jared remained conscious and was transported to Shands Jacksonville hospital in critical condition.
Reston's life was saved by his bulletproof vest, which absorbed three bullets aimed at his chest. However, he sustained injuries to his face, leg, and buttocks during the incident. The shooting unfolded when Reston and another off-duty officer, both in uniform, pursued two shoplifting suspects, as detailed in a sheriff's office report.
For his extraordinary actions during the January 2008 shooting, he received numerous prestigious awards, including The President of the United States' "Medal of Valor," the American Police and Hall of Fame's "National Police Officer of the Year," the Fraternal Order of Police's "Florida Police Officer of the Year," and the State of Florida's "Law Enforcement Officer of the Year."
