Alex is a former professional baseball outfielder and was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 8th round (230th overall) of the 2006 MLB Draft. Alex played for the for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Minnesota Twins, Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, and Detroit Tigers. In total, Alex played professional baseball for twelve years, including eight seasons in the Major Leagues and in 2010 Alex was named Minor League Player of the Year for the Pirates.
