Harry Spaight and Suzanne Taylor King have a conversation about personal and business growth without resorting to pushy sales tactics. Harry is the author of Selling With Dignity and hosts Sales Made Easy, a podcast for business and personal growth. Suzanne is a business coach and Udai Monologist, and she encourages people to be the best version of themselves. They talk about how to achieve success and happiness through integrity and hard work, and how Harry was ready to podcast with Suzanne in two minutes. They both express admiration for each other and how honored Suzanne is to be on the podcast.
Harry is a fan of Stoicism and recently heard references to it. He explains that the basis of Stoicism is living as the best version of yourself and this is in line with Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Harry was first introduced to Stoicism through a coach who he worked with who was a philosopher. He found that the philosophy resonated with him and the writings of modern Stoics like Ryan Holliday have further deepened his understanding. In essence, Stoicism is about being honest, having integrity, treating people with respect and learning constantly to become the best version of yourself.
Harry and the speaker discuss the importance of living with integrity and meaning. In order to be the best version of yourself, it is necessary to work on hard habits every day such as meditation, exercise, drinking water and eating right. The speaker references Ryan Holiday's idea of The Obstacle is the Way to illustrate how hard things can bring happiness. It is important to understand yourself and know what habits are beneficial and which are not. The speaker acknowledges that partying and drinking can be enjoyable, but it is important to recognize that too much can lead to not being able to focus and do what one is called to do.
Harry and Suzanne are discussing the importance of self-reflection and knowing oneself. Harry explains that he has gained thirty pounds since Covid and he attributes this to him no longer teaching exercise classes as a hobby. He has come to terms with this and is taking action to get back on track. Harry is also reading a book called Your Five Next Steps by Patrick Ben l, which is inspiring him to do a deeper self-reflection. Patrick encourages people to take a test which will help them get to know themselves better. Patrick believes that this is an important step to take before becoming an entrepreneur. Harry also mentions that comparison can be harmful and it is important to take the time to learn and understand oneself.
