00:00:00.802 --> 00:00:03.450
Take care of LinkedIn, so I think that's worth the effect.

00:00:03.450 --> 00:00:10.666
You're all hanging out in the same place and you just make conversation with people and if it leads to a sale, woohoo.

00:00:10.666 --> 00:00:13.548
If it doesn't, at least you're a medical person.

00:00:13.548 --> 00:00:31.611
Hey friends, did that sound weird Because I accidentally had my mic pushed away, but when I started talking I have not pre-planned any of this episode, but I keep getting questions about how to leverage LinkedIn to grow your sales.

00:00:31.611 --> 00:00:33.887
So I'm going to dig into it.

00:00:33.887 --> 00:00:48.813
I'm going to go into how to optimize your LinkedIn profile, how to get a top voice, what features you should be trying and how to do biz dev on LinkedIn without being a little creepster.

00:00:48.813 --> 00:00:57.719
All right, I'm going to walk you through my profile and how you should really structure your LinkedIn profile.

00:00:57.719 --> 00:00:59.567
So it starts with the cover image.

00:00:59.567 --> 00:01:02.247
You might not have known that, but it's true.

00:01:02.247 --> 00:01:06.789
Start with your cover image and you need a great strap line on there.

00:01:06.789 --> 00:01:10.640
So right now, mine says biz dev meets content marketing.

00:01:10.640 --> 00:01:18.840
Did we just become best friends Because my content led marketing strategies into great business development, into the process?

00:01:18.840 --> 00:01:22.917
Now for you, you'll want to include either.

00:01:22.917 --> 00:01:28.120
You have two choices you have your value proposition or whatever your lead magnet is in that moment.

00:01:28.120 --> 00:01:31.040
So I change mine all the time.

00:01:31.040 --> 00:01:47.500
Mine is either a value proposition that I have, and when I'm creating a marketing or I'm sorry, when I'm creating a messaging strategy, I write down tons of these different little sound by value propositions that you can use.

00:01:47.500 --> 00:01:53.052
You can use on as your strap line or as your LinkedIn headline.

00:01:53.052 --> 00:01:56.427
But yeah, so you could do that.

00:01:56.427 --> 00:01:57.691
Or you could do your lead magnet.

00:01:57.691 --> 00:02:11.550
If I'm hosting an event, if I'm facilitating a workshop, I'm hosting a webinar, if I have a quiz going out, I'll have that as my strap line, promoting that, because I want people to join my email list.

00:02:13.259 --> 00:02:16.340
All right, next up is your headline.

00:02:16.340 --> 00:02:20.000
So your headline should have a few different elements in it.

00:02:20.000 --> 00:02:22.250
You want to include what you do.

00:02:22.250 --> 00:02:28.878
You want to include who you serve, how you serve them and the problem that you solve.

00:02:28.878 --> 00:02:34.889
So mine is currently turn internal experts into content creators.

00:02:34.889 --> 00:02:38.828
Prospects go from ice cold to fire.

00:02:38.828 --> 00:02:51.979
With content led marketing, I have a little rocket emoji visibility and authority, strategy systems and execution serving B2Bs with tiny teams, and then top 10% pod tiny marketing.

00:02:51.979 --> 00:02:53.068
That's this one.

00:02:53.068 --> 00:02:54.560
What are you listening to right now?

00:02:54.560 --> 00:03:00.569
So basically, I am going through and explaining who I work with, how I work with them.

00:03:00.569 --> 00:03:11.419
I am creating content led marketing strategies, and I'm using your internal stakeholders, the experts within your company, to do the content creation.

00:03:11.419 --> 00:03:25.703
And this really does skyrocket your visibility and authority, because it's now no longer a company saying these things about them, it's a whole team of people that are marketing for you All right.

00:03:25.923 --> 00:03:29.531
Next up, you want to go into your featured section.

00:03:29.531 --> 00:03:35.953
So when you have a featured section, you want to pick things that you want them to go to.

00:03:35.953 --> 00:03:42.568
So when featured just became a thing, I would pin my most popular posts.

00:03:42.568 --> 00:03:44.599
Don't do that.

00:03:44.599 --> 00:03:46.205
Use this for your calls to action.

00:03:46.205 --> 00:03:52.391
So I have my quiz, so you can do a quiz to find your hidden marketing potential.

00:03:52.391 --> 00:03:55.407
I have a book of fit calls so people will get on there.

00:03:55.407 --> 00:03:57.985
And then I have my free community.

00:03:57.985 --> 00:04:03.508
Those are my three first ones, and people only see the first three, so those are the ones that matter.

00:04:04.879 --> 00:04:16.028
Let's actually hop forward a little bit, because I want to go back to the link that you get on your profile, and this is a little thing that not a lot of people know.

00:04:16.028 --> 00:04:28.211
So you have the option to do a custom link or you could do one of the standard ones, and people always think I should do custom for sure, because then I can use whatever words I want.

00:04:28.211 --> 00:04:34.293
But if you choose the button instead of the custom link, then it'll show up.

00:04:34.293 --> 00:04:37.608
Your link will show up on every single post that you have.

00:04:37.608 --> 00:04:43.721
So if you have it the other way, switch it to the button now, all right.

00:04:43.802 --> 00:04:50.185
Scrolling down to about About is not about you, it's about your customer.

00:04:50.185 --> 00:04:58.651
So in about sections, I like to write stories, stories about transformations I've created for my customers.

00:04:58.651 --> 00:05:12.007
So starting with a story, and then dig into how you made that story happen, how you made that transformation happen, and then give a call to action.

00:05:12.007 --> 00:05:17.790
So for me it's either send a DM or email me, and I have my email in there.

00:05:17.790 --> 00:05:22.504
Make sure to include your top skills too, so it's easy to find you.

00:05:22.504 --> 00:05:23.927
These are all keywords.

00:05:23.927 --> 00:05:32.668
I think all social media platforms are basically like Google, their search engines, so you want to make sure all of the right keywords are in there.

00:05:32.668 --> 00:05:36.788
Next up in your profile is the services section.

00:05:36.788 --> 00:05:40.108
So I didn't always know this, but you will.

00:05:40.108 --> 00:05:44.490
Now you can turn services on or off, and by default it's turned off.

00:05:44.490 --> 00:05:51.992
So make sure that if you are a service provider, that you have it turned on so people can see what services you sell.

00:05:51.992 --> 00:05:54.507
And next up is experience.

00:05:54.507 --> 00:05:59.110
In the experience section you want to continue the story from about.

00:05:59.110 --> 00:06:08.363
So, in your little area where it says your job title and your company, continue the story.

00:06:08.980 --> 00:06:20.230
Talk about how you ended up opening that business or how you ended up doing the thing that you do, but tell it in a story like mine starts.

00:06:20.230 --> 00:06:23.048
I remember sitting in my cubicle feeling overwhelmed.

00:06:23.048 --> 00:06:32.024
I had seven company presidents coming to me with their individual goals, which was great, except I was the marketing department Me alone.

00:06:32.024 --> 00:06:35.348
So it takes people on a journey and they can understand.

00:06:35.348 --> 00:06:42.552
I understand their perspective and how hard it can be to be a one person marketing department.

00:06:42.552 --> 00:06:47.511
Oftentimes I'm working with companies with a zero person marketing department.

00:06:47.511 --> 00:06:48.122
It's hard.

00:06:48.122 --> 00:07:07.168
So I want people to understand that and to go through the journey with me of how I created the framework that I get people, that I walk companies through now to help them Build the best marketing that they can in the most streamlined possible way.

00:07:07.168 --> 00:07:14.963
Ok, so that is that for your profile, the most important pieces of it.

00:07:14.963 --> 00:07:22.535
There's recommendations, of course, ask for recommendations and their skills, which isn't as important as it used to be.

00:07:22.535 --> 00:07:25.987
Those are the big things, the important things.

00:07:27.019 --> 00:07:33.552
Now we're going to talk about how you get that top voice badge on your profile.

00:07:33.552 --> 00:07:39.812
I have gotten so many messages asking how I got that top voice.

00:07:39.812 --> 00:07:48.432
So I'm a top content strategy voice and I can actually tell you because LinkedIn tells me but I'm a top 2% content strategy voice.

00:07:48.432 --> 00:07:51.206
So how do you get that?

00:07:51.206 --> 00:08:02.855
So what you want to do is choose one category that you want to get that top voice in and follow them on the on their LinkedIn page.

00:08:02.855 --> 00:08:28.286
So it would be like brand messaging category or, sorry, brand messaging collection, content strategy collection, podcast collection it's called a collection on LinkedIn, but you need to go to that and then go to the article section and add your perspective into the collaborative articles.

00:08:28.286 --> 00:08:38.470
The more you do you need to do at least five the more likely you are to get a top voice, and the most engaged posts are the people who get the top voice.

00:08:38.470 --> 00:09:02.705
So the reason I know I have the top 2% is because in the content strategy category my perspectives that I add to the collaborative articles are liked in the majority of the articles and then LinkedIn is like okay, you're at top 2% in digital marketing, you're top 18%.

00:09:02.705 --> 00:09:06.827
You need to get to the top 5% to get a top voice.

00:09:06.827 --> 00:09:32.948
So, again, how you do that is you go to the collections under the category that you want your top voice in and add your perspective to the collaborative articles and hope, pray or beg for engagement on your perspectives and that will get you the badge.

00:09:36.600 --> 00:09:38.947
And the next up is the content that you create.

00:09:38.947 --> 00:09:40.965
So your LinkedIn posts.

00:09:40.965 --> 00:09:45.750
There is 100% a framework that works on LinkedIn.

00:09:45.750 --> 00:09:51.168
We like stories, we like a lot of white space.

00:09:51.168 --> 00:10:03.253
Make sure you're not doing big, chunky paragraphs and ask questions in there, because oftentimes people go to those posts, scan for a question they can respond to and comment.

00:10:03.253 --> 00:10:09.130
So you're going to get more engagement when you have a clear question or ask on the post.

00:10:09.130 --> 00:10:23.447
So my general perspective on LinkedIn content is I post once a day, five times a week, and I always have a lot of space.

00:10:23.447 --> 00:10:26.467
So it's one sentence space, one sentence space.

00:10:26.467 --> 00:10:32.971
This does better on LinkedIn and make sure that you're telling a story.

00:10:32.971 --> 00:10:48.582
So start off with something that is engaging, going to hook people in at the very beginning, teach them the thing and then at the end, ask a question so people know how to engage with your post.

00:10:50.700 --> 00:10:58.445
If you are going to do those carousel posts, make sure that you download your carousel as a PDF.

00:10:58.445 --> 00:11:00.687
I see this mistake over and over.

00:11:00.687 --> 00:11:10.846
People are downloading their carousels as PNGs and then it shows up on LinkedIn in these janky little squares.

00:11:10.846 --> 00:11:19.868
But what you want to do is download them as a PDF and add them as a document and then they'll show up as the carousels that you see everybody else have.

00:11:19.868 --> 00:11:24.227
So that mistake that you're making it is solved now.

00:11:26.320 --> 00:11:32.152
Now you don't have to post as much as me, but I would recommend posting at least once a week.

00:11:32.152 --> 00:11:37.190
That is a good cadence and make sure that you're engaging more than you're posting.

00:11:37.190 --> 00:11:44.804
So I set aside at least 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the afternoon to engage with people.

00:11:44.804 --> 00:11:48.928
I have my favorites, like people who are always posting on mine.

00:11:48.928 --> 00:11:51.645
I post on theirs, so I'm engaging with them.

00:11:51.645 --> 00:11:56.182
People who just create amazing content that I'm interested in and I'll engage there.

00:11:56.182 --> 00:12:13.370
But if you're going to go really strategic with it, find people who are connected to the companies that you want to work with and engage with them so that you're showing up in the feeds of the people who can hire you.

00:12:13.370 --> 00:12:26.768
So an easy way to do this is to create a list of your dream clients, dream companies you want to work with, and then look them up on LinkedIn, start following them.

00:12:26.768 --> 00:12:34.245
Ring the bell of anybody that you think that might be important to connect with because you'll want to comment on their stuff.

00:12:34.245 --> 00:12:42.123
But also look and see who you know that's already connected to those people and ring their bell too.

00:12:42.123 --> 00:12:50.947
And if you don't know what I mean by ring their bell, at the top of LinkedIn profiles there's a little bell and you can get notifications when people post.

00:12:50.947 --> 00:13:03.690
So ring the bell of those people so you can comment on their posts to make sure that the people in your dream client list are seeing your posts.

00:13:05.042 --> 00:13:15.504
Okay, the last thing I'm going to talk about today about LinkedIn is how to do business development on LinkedIn without being a little creeper.

00:13:15.504 --> 00:13:21.135
Picture LinkedIn like a networking event.

00:13:21.135 --> 00:13:28.331
You're all hanging out in the same place and you just make conversation with people, and if it leads to a sale, woohoo.

00:13:28.331 --> 00:13:31.231
If it doesn't, at least you're a medical person.

00:13:31.231 --> 00:13:33.110
That's how I think of LinkedIn.

00:13:33.110 --> 00:13:47.412
I'm hanging out at my favorite not working group, so what I do is anytime I attend a virtual event, I head straight to that chat and I start encouraging people to put in their LinkedIn profiles.

00:13:47.412 --> 00:13:51.769
I'm like, hey, everybody, let's follow each other on LinkedIn and keep this party going.

00:13:51.769 --> 00:13:55.289
Drop your link right here and I'll follow everyone.

00:13:55.289 --> 00:14:02.629
And then I'll message them once we've connected and see if they wanna hop on a connection call, see how we can help each other out.

00:14:02.629 --> 00:14:09.672
The real point is that you're not trying to sell to anybody, you're just trying to build relationships.

00:14:09.672 --> 00:14:11.611
That's what business development is all about.

00:14:11.611 --> 00:14:15.596
So that is one way that I do BizDev.

00:14:15.596 --> 00:14:24.171
I attend virtual events and then I bring that conversation to LinkedIn where I take it to the next step and ask for connection calls.

00:14:25.664 --> 00:14:29.744
Next up is looking at your recently viewed the profile.

00:14:29.744 --> 00:14:33.254
Well, I said that so awkwardly here.

00:14:33.254 --> 00:14:39.113
What I actually mean is your profile views, the people who have viewed your profile.

00:14:39.113 --> 00:14:44.673
I look there and I scan through to see if there's anybody who makes sense to connect with.

00:14:44.673 --> 00:14:48.173
Maybe they work with the same sort of customer as me.

00:14:48.173 --> 00:14:50.669
We have mirror customers.

00:14:50.669 --> 00:14:53.732
Maybe they'd be really cool to have on my podcast.

00:14:53.732 --> 00:15:00.551
Or maybe I know somebody who'd be amazing to introduce them to because they'd work really well together.

00:15:00.551 --> 00:15:13.272
So I'll scan through my profile views and look for those interesting ones that I think that I can add value to them, and I'll connect with them and see if they wanna hop on a connection call.

00:15:15.504 --> 00:15:38.389
Last, the last thing that I do is I'll scroll through the job listings and anything that has something that's like a robust job offer that could be broken up into littler pieces I'll go through and anything that has content, marketing, content strategy I'll connect with those companies because I know they need that.

00:15:38.389 --> 00:15:39.673
They've raised their hand.

00:15:39.673 --> 00:15:43.154
That is a buying trigger thing.

00:15:43.154 --> 00:15:51.073
What's a better way to say that that is an intent, a buyer's intent?

00:15:51.073 --> 00:15:52.057
That's a better way.

00:15:52.057 --> 00:15:55.711
If I've ever seen one.

00:15:55.711 --> 00:15:58.352
They're literally posting that they need it.

00:15:58.352 --> 00:16:03.615
So that is a great place to start, too for a biz dev.

00:16:03.615 --> 00:16:25.133
Look at those companies that need the thing that you do and start connecting with them and seeing if you can build a relationship with them, because, while they might think a marketing manager can do all of the things, when they actually get hired and onboarded, realistically they're gonna need some support.

00:16:25.133 --> 00:16:28.631
So that's the last thing.

00:16:28.631 --> 00:16:30.991
There's so many more things to do.

00:16:31.304 --> 00:16:33.692
I could probably talk for hours and hours about LinkedIn.

00:16:33.692 --> 00:16:39.835
I love it, but those are my top tips right off the bat.

00:16:39.835 --> 00:16:48.452
I've been getting this question a ton and I thought I might as well create a bonus episode about it so I can help all the peoples.

00:16:48.452 --> 00:16:58.216
So if that intrigued you, I just put up an offer just for the coaching group.

00:16:58.216 --> 00:17:01.730
On part of it was like a special deal, but I'm gonna say it here too.

00:17:01.730 --> 00:17:31.530
So if you are interested in getting a LinkedIn profile makeover where I rewrite your entire LinkedIn profile, do your strap line for your cover image and give you content prompts so you know exactly what to write about, then shoot me an email, email me at hello at sarahnowallblockcom, or DM me on LinkedIn and we can get started.

00:17:31.806 --> 00:17:33.952
I'm gonna offer that for a very short time.

00:17:33.952 --> 00:17:43.467
So as soon as you listen to this, you should probably do that, because maybe I won't be doing it next week, but I really.

00:17:43.467 --> 00:17:52.191
I have that often as a bonus offer when people purchase bigger packages and I love it.

00:17:52.191 --> 00:17:57.632
It's one of my favorite things to do is to give LinkedIn makeovers, so I thought, why not?

00:17:57.632 --> 00:18:02.430
I wanna have a little fun and do some LinkedIn and makeovers this week.

00:18:02.430 --> 00:18:05.412
All right, I hope you enjoyed this.

00:18:05.412 --> 00:18:09.895
If you did hit like subscribe, rate, review.

00:18:09.895 --> 00:18:11.588
Hit that share button.

00:18:11.588 --> 00:18:16.354
Share with a friend and let them know that tiny marketing exists.

00:18:16.354 --> 00:18:23.130
And if you are a B2B service business with a tiny team, this is the place you gotta be.

00:18:23.130 --> 00:18:24.489
You gotta show up here.

00:18:24.489 --> 00:18:26.710
All right, I will see you next time.

00:18:26.710 --> 00:18:28.132
Enjoy this bonus episode.
