Discovering Who You Are After Abuse with Nina Aouilk

Discovering Who You Are After Abuse with Nina Aouilk

Nina Aouilk is known as the Londons Life Coach, she is a survivor of abuse and an advocate for breaking the silence. She joins Dawn today to talk all about her own experiences of trauma and abuse and how she helps others in violent relationships and situations.

Dawn and Nina also talk about the difficulties of the world and society women and girls face today, motherhood and why you should always unapologetically be yourself.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Nina created the concept of ‘Losers lunch’ which is a room she hosts on clubhouse. The idea behind it is that it’s an accumulation of people across the world giving their own perception on a topic by people who have lost something.

  • All three of Nina’s children have had a unique impact on her but all three of them gave her a sense or purpose and a strength she didn’t have before becoming a mother.

  • Nina had a difficult childhood, she wasn’t loved as she should have been by her parents and endured neglect and abuse.

  • As an adult, Nina suffered serious abuse from her partner including death threats and attempts. Her youngest son spoke out at school and this led to Nina having the push to leave.

  • Leaving her abusive partner made Nina realise she had the strength and resilience to make the life she and her children deserved. Up until this point, it was as if Nina didn’t realise she had the choice to leave.

  • Nina has had to learn to use her voice, actions and mannerism to advocate for herself and ask for things. She spent so many years nurturing and looking after everyone else that she didn’t realise she had her own needs too.

  • There is no competition in trauma and grief. You can't compare peoples trauma. Peoples pain and suffering is their own.

BEST MOMENTS

“We’re all losers sometimes and we just have to admit to it to become better people”

“The day my daughter was born I felt this surge of love, this surge of purpose”

“It was not uncommon for a daughter to be treated as I was at that time”

“Abuse followed me like a bad penny and that mentality that I had of not deserving any better became my reality so much so I didn’t realise I had a choice”

"What you are doing by leaving is freeing yourself...it's an ongoing journey"
