Just a heads up… if you get a message that says it’s from the CRA, don’t let your guard down because it’s likely a scam.
One big scam right now is with the Canada Carbon Rebate. They send you a text or DM saying to click a link to claim your rebate. Don’t. It’s not the CRA!
There’s a similar scam to do with tax refunds. They’ll ask you to click a link to get your refund, as well as some personal and banking info. But there will be no refund. Just identity theft.
You may also get a call from an imposter posing as the CRA telling you that you haven’t in fact paid your taxes, and if you don’t send them money in the form of cryptocurrency or gift cards, you’ll be sent to jail. Scam!
