Julie Stewart-Binks: Look Up, Not Across | Women in Media

This week, I’m chatting with sports broadcaster Julie Stewart-Binks about her work with Bet Rivers, CBS Sports, Sportsnet New York and hosting the Olympics on CBC this summer back home in Toronto.

Julie discusses the joys of her career and the challenges she has faced in the sports media industry. She talks about her favorite roles in sports through the years, including her time as a rinkside reporter for the Anaheim Ducks with the support of a wonderful team. She also shares her experience reporting on women's sports, especially her recent PWHL coverage. Julie shares where her love of sports began growing up and the discipline she learned from figure skating and track and field. She's also played on several hockey teams over the years!

Julie also talks about her upcoming role hosting Paris Olympic coverage for CBC this summer and some of the differences she's noticed in Canadian vs. American broadcasting styles. She also briefly mentions her work with Bet Rivers and the prevalence of sports betting in both countries.

She highlights the unique atmosphere and appreciation in women's sports, particularly in the PWHL, and the importance of supporting other women in the sports media industry.
