A Young Coach's Journey-Navy Assistant Baseball Coach

On this episode,Steel City Nation podcast Mark Maradei speaks with Casey Leister.Leister has been a volunteer assistant baseball coach with the Navy Midshipmen since 2018. Although he has only been with the Midshipmen for two years his presence has been felt as they have amassed a record of 53-18. When this season was shortened by covid-19 they Midshipmen were 14-1 and red hot reeling off a record 14 straight wins. They were leading the Patriot League in many hitting categories which assuredly would have added to the landing players once again on the all league team. Last season they had 4 all league players from a season ago which included the Patriot League Player of the Year in Christian Hodge whom Leister is credited with having a strong positive influence on their performances. 

We will discuss his coaching career path and how the current conditions we are dealing with has impacted the players inside the locker room, recruiting and how he has found that he makes the best connection to developing players while moving forward with his own career as a baseball coach. Casey shares his take on the potential for a  2020 MLB season. Since he has been involved with baseball at many levels he will share as his  Decade Definers on the five best players he has seen in person playing baseball amateur or professional.
