This week on the Steel City Nation podcast we'll be interviewing Chris Samuels. Samuels is a former professional football player who was an offensive tackle in the (NFL) for ten seasons. He played college football for the University of Alabama, and was a consensus All-American. Selected third overall in the 2000 NFL Draft, Samuels played his entire pro career for the NFL's Washington Redskins and was a six-time Pro Bowl selection.
Samuels played for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team from 1996 to 1999. As a senior in 1999, Samuels won many national accolades for his play which was highlighted by being chosen as a consensus first-team All-American. He also won the Outland Trophy as the nation's best college interior lineman, and was a semifinalist for the Lombardi Award.
Samuels was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame as part of the 2016 class. He was inducted into the Redskins Ring of Fame on October 20, 2019 at halftime against the San Francisco 49ers.
In 2010, Samuels participated in the NFL's Minority Coaching Fellowship as an assistant to the Redskins' offensive line coach. He has gone onto coach at various high schools as an offensive coordinator as well as coaching intern for his alma mater University of Alabama during his various stops since 2011.
We will discuss with Chris his career highlights at Alabama playing for Coach Nick Saban. His ascension in the NFL after being selected as a top 10 pick in the 2000 draft. What his time was like as a career Washington Redskin along with the distinction of being inducted in the Ring of Honor. WE will also talk about his impact on coaching young athletes at the high school and where he sees himself in the coaching world 5 years from now. For our Decade Definers Chris will share with us the top five defensive lineman he faced in his 10 year career.
